MGS4 with no cutscenes is a 7, it's a good game

MGS4 with the cutscenes is a 1/10 fuck this shit.

Your cutscene-free description reads like a 6. But it's probably due to latent cutscene rage polluting it.

25. Beat Grow Home - 4/10

I like the look of the game, I like the little robot bud. It subscribes to the Octodad school of character movement where the main character controls funky and flails around, but I think there is more sense of control to what Bud does in the long run.

The game itself is ubisoft tower climbing using this giant plant you need to grow into space, and you grow it by finding these different stems from the giant plant and in all its penis-like existence you have it penetrate rocks as it sucks up all that fluid into the giant plant to make it grow.

In theory you are supposed to be exploring the different areas and collecting these crystals because you can get jetpacks and stuff to make the climbing easier, but all in all the game is grow this shit to your mother ship, and then put a seed in and the game is finished.

I find it pleasant and relaxing to play, and I do find it hilarious when I fuck up and then drop from mad mother fucking high to the bottom of the world. You get a lot of time to think about your fuck up lol, but it also wasn't much of a gameplay experience beyond being unique. It's different, it's got charm, and I like the idea behind the controls. I think making him a little wonky and having you actually focus on pressing lt/rt to climb made it more interesting than climbing shit in other Ubisoft games. Plus the brevity of the game helps, but there isn't much to the mechanics, the gameplay loop, or the overall goal.

After the credits roll you can collect seeds, but I'm really not seeing the point of wanting to climb that son of a bitch more than once. Would have preferred maybe having those seeds and crystals be a bit more meaningful to the core goal instead of a "I can get this, but why the fuck do I want to?", because jetpacks are cool, but it's not satisfying.

Collecting stars in Mario and other collect-a-thon platformers came down to it being a platforming challenge I wanted to complete. This is just not all that interesting exploration.

In the grand scheme of things, it's kind of a boring game with not all that much to offer once you get the plant into space. Which makes Valiant Hearts the only one of these downloadable Ubisoft games I really dug, well that is until I play Blood Dragon.

Cool idea, could have made the overall goal more challenging or at the least asked more of the player.

And my 40th finished game of 2015  is the amazing VALKYRIA CHRONICLES!

Its funny that I'm just beating this now. It was one of the first games I ever bought on the PS3. Got halfway done with it and then I remember a bunch of really high profile games came out and I never went back. Mostly because I ended up selling my PS3 thinking all I needed was an Xbox and a Wii....bad move as that was my 60gig PS3. By the time I got around to picking up a PS3 again, they had replaced it with the gimped slim model.

Anyway, I had meant to finish this for ages but it worked out great, because by the time I was ready for it, SEGA had released the game on Steam. This is easily the best version of the game. Achievements, cleaner visuals, and Xbox One and PS4 controller support. And this is still the best game SEGA has made since leaving hardware. Why they can't make more games of this quality, I have no idea. I also have no idea why they released the sequel on the fucking PSP....although now that I have a VITA I guess I can check it out.

As far as Strategy RPG's go, this is one of my favorites of all time. Its up there with the Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Battles, and Fire Emblems of the world....and in many ways, surpasses them. 9.1 rating!

I hope the game is getting more attention now that its on Steam.

It shouldn't feel strange for me of all people to finish a game...

...but it does.

Updated with Ground Zeroes.

Valkyria Chronicles is fantastic. If it weren't for Demon's Souls, it would be the best exclusive for the PS3.

And somehow you ignore the Yakuza franchise.

As much as I love Yakuza, none of them are as high quality as Valkyria Chronicles. This game feels like the SEGA of old, when you could say they were on the level of Nintendo with a straight face.

Updated with Resident Evil REV 2!!!

For the most part, this is the best RE has been in a long time. The gameplay is fun, it feels like a horror game, and its fairly atmospheric with great production. The bad thing is, the episodic nature makes the game feel split up too much, and certain parts of the game and story don't feel as fleshed out as they should be.

I got the BAD ending...I didn't even know this was possible but ok. I checked out the good ending on youtube and fuck, its a million times better. Also, Shinji Mikami is listed as a background artist for this game?! The fuck?!

Looking forward to the series again...it feels good. 8.4 rating.

Actually forgot I finished Puzzle and Dragons Z sometime back in July. 'Course there's an immediate New Game + mode, but I still finished one of the campaigns. Played it for 120 hours at that point... Counts!

1. Did you finish both the Mario version and the Monster version?

2. Are the rumours true that you traded the game in?

I finished the main quest of the Puzzle and Dragon Z game. I played a good amount into the New Game + too. I put about 30 hours into the Mario game... Problem is, I wasn't playing anything else --AT ALL-- so after 150 hours, I decided to trade it in.

Story behind that though: I picked the game up on the day one of my best friends got married. I made a joke about being late to his wedding because I had to stop at GameStop on the way. I played the game whenever I was in my hotel room before and after the wedding and all that weekend.

I guess I associated the game with good memories from the wedding 'cause the very moment after trading it in, I started to feel guilty...

...bought it again yesterday.  Uneasy

Just beat Pokémon Alpha Sapphire on the Nintendo 3DS yesterday.  Purchased this in a buy 2 get one free deal, figuring it had been a while since I had played a Pokémon game and this was in 3D and nostalgia and such.  It was fun for what it was, but these games are horribly easy.  Not once did I 'die', and I think I only used a revive item 5 times in the whole game.  Anyhow, the last couple of days I've been playing it more in an attempt to get it finished.  So after the credits roll...  I see that they added a whole new chapter of new content  Hrm  It wasn't even that good either.  A lot of backtracking (which is idiotic when you can cancel it out by flying everywhere you like) and a lot of talking, interspersed with some battles.  What is cool, for the pokégeek inside me, is that it seems possible to catch about every pokémon ever created in this game.  And then there's an endgame battle arena where you can finally test your skill up against CPU's that have teams that are actually more powerfull than your own.  Also, the 3D is really spotty, in that it's not applied to the whole game.  The 3D effect can only be enabled in battle and in caves, with battles featuring more than 2 pokémon at the same time are also 2D only.  I find it hard to believe that this game, with it's fairly basic 3D models, would be stretching the 3DS too far.
