And who can ever forget Manny Calavera and the conspiracy in the land of the dead

... shame about his silly heavy metal game Sad

It had Jack Black in it. With that weighing it down, nothing could make it good.

Okami is not unique at all.

There is already a inferior Zelda like game with good art. It is called Windwaker

Excellent topic by the way.

Azure Dreams on the PSOne fits here. It mashed up so many genres into one game is was amazing that the game functioned. But it did and it was awesome.

God bless NiGHTS into Dreams.  Let's just forget about the sequel with the worst voice acting ever done shall we?

And last, the Magic of Scheherazade.  Best NES game ever.  It was an Arabian Legend of Zelda with the addition of occasional turn based RPG battles. Strange mix but it worked.  Sadly never got a sequel and never will especially now. ANy game where you save your file in a mosque just won't happen these days.

...going NES on me, are you?

OK then, here's a unique one:

The only game that dares to answer the question: "What if Link could transform into a spaceship?!"

Nope. Vader says we can't just forget sequels, no matter how much they suck. They exist, and are a true part of  a franchise forever. NiGHTS Journey of Dreams can NEVER be forgotten!

Bunny says, "deal with it."

I'll give you that the game is unique but I never thought that game was fun. Maybe I played it way too late in life (around the PSOne era), but I just couldn't get into that game.

In that case I'd like to take a moment and pee on the bunny, and say yo momma to everyone who forces me to remember Journey Into Dreams.

Alright, Robio, since you brought up Azure Dreams, one of my obscure FAVORITES from the PSOne days, I MUST remind you to play:

Shiren the Wanderer for the Wii. It got generally lukewarm reviews in the U.S. but I am convinced THAT was because it didn't have gun-totting Space-Marines with a cover-based gameplay system... It's addicting, it will last you forever, it's INSANELY popular in Japan. It's popularity in Japan MAY be in part due to it's lineage. You see Chunsoft its Developer... Wait. You know what? I'll let you read it yourself. Here ya' go:

"Chunsoft is a Japanese video game developer specializing in console RPGs and visual novels. It was founded by Koichi Nakamura, a video game designer from Enix. They are best known as the creators of the Mystery Dungeon series, the first five installments of the Dragon Quest series of role-playing games, and the Sound Novels series of graphic adventure games."

Yeah that's one of those games that got lost in the shuffle for me.  I've enjoyed Chunsoft's dungeon crawlers going back to Torneko: The Last Hope.  Maybe that'll be something to pick up over the winter.  Though sadly I've got less and less time for console gaming.

Here's a unique game that I'd love to see a sequel to.  There have been other photo safari games, but this one that really did it well in my book.  By keeping it on rails it had a sense of urgency that other photo games like Afrika don't have. Plus the accessories like the stun ball and poke feed gave it a little strategy element that made you stop and think.
