That's why I said: "Doesn't exist" and "Not sure if serious."

I'm not sure of ANY game that fits your criteria:

"Lets find this, what is the best selling game of all time that was not based on a major franchise (like Batman, or Star Wars) and never got a sequel. It has to be at least 4 years old to prove it has no sequel or plans for one."

You're gonna have to ask sources other than me and the people here for this one, I think.

Well there are games that have no sequels and are original, this is a thread full of them. We just need to find the best selling one of the bunch. Not so hard. I think its Shadow of the Colossus.

Is there a Duck Hunt 2?

You know SOTC is part of a sort of trilogy, so...

Oh wait, this isn't the truly one of a kind piece of shit game which you hope never gets a shitty sequel thread.

Yeah that would be the Bioshock thread.

Anyone remember this title on the NES?

A game all about playing the stock market!! WHEEEEE!!

You know as I go back through a lot of old NES games looking for original ones, it really makes me appreciate just how diverse the library was back then.  You look at lot of the titles on systems today and you can't help but feel that we've taken a step backwards.

 I remember that one.

I don;t know, if you look at the breadth of available games, from the PSN and XBLA stuff through to the big retail stuff (and DS games are certainly unique) I think there is a pretty good blend of styles and play.  Certainly some segments are over-represented (like 2-D platformers), and some are under-represented (like JRPG).
