Oh wow Norton Internet security is fucking ace.

So it sends me this update saying that our subscription gives us a free upgrade and that I got 99 days left on the subscription. So I download the free upgrade and it says I have 0 days left and have to pay a shitload for a new subscription?

So now I'm running sans net protection. Thank you very fucking much Norton.

Now I have to dig up year old product keys and find passwords to accounts you use once a freaking year and never again. Oh Joy.

Norton sucks. I stopped using their crappy products years ago.

Oh joy. So I find the account password, log and and its reset it on the godamn account to 0. I have like almost 100 days left on this thing. What a frakking joke!

Wow, so the 360/PS3 versions of Virtua tennis are getting 7/10s which torpedoed that idea, now Eurogamer 5/10 Grand Slam Tennis.

Now Wii Sports resort actually looks enticing.

Grand Slam Tennis is an underwhelming representation of tennis, crippled by unintuitive controls, and just makes you want to go back to the precision of Top Spin or Virtua Tennis on a control pad. You can't blame Wii MotionPlus for this failure, because it's almost impossible to tell whether it's helping or hindering. What you can say is that Grand Slam Tennis isn't very good either way. Bring on Wii Sports Resort.

5/10

Very surprising.  A month ago I planned on picking this up, but now I'm holding off.  Nintendo Power only rated it a 7.   Sounds like they didn't get it right.  On the brighter side of things Tiger Woods got a much better rating, so there's still hope for that one.

The review reads rather strangely, like they found the game difficult and couldn't get over it. The other hands on previews I've read, of not only this game but  Virtua tennis with motionplus have all been overwhelmingly positive so far.

I might have expected complaints about the design, but on the impressions of Motionplus so far, I didn't expect complaints about the controls yet.

LMFAO

What you are one of those, its too much the same therefore it sucks people. Its very much like RE5, has the same excellent gameplay. Offers MUCH more content, way more replay value, has better Mercenaries modes, co-op adds a totally new dynamic to the game. It might not be as well done a single player campaign but it still way better than most action games dream to be. Actually has a difficulty mode thats hard, which RE4 does not.  Amazing top notch graphics, sounds, its as polished a game as they come. It does everything right. So what is your issue.

Yeah that's pretty much how I felt about RE5 as well, just an all-around fantastic game that while there were some niggling issues they weren't anything to dock of serious points for.

Looking at the EA site, it seems they are trying to figure out the proper way to hold the controller. That might explain some on the variety in opinions on the controls.

My issue is that the game has nowhere near the soul of RE4 and I got bored about halfway through and stopped playing. So for me it doesn't have anywhere NEAR the replay value of RE4.

Yeah it has good graphics and sound, big deal. Tons of games do. The art style does nothing for me really, it looks like a million other games nowadays.

Also, to me just the fact that its mostly an action game is a problem in the first place. Not what I'm looking for in a RE game.

Thats cool that you like it but a 9.6? cmon now dude. I just didn't feel it. Honestly most of my close friends feel the same as me, and I've seen many folks around the net also saying the same thing.

Maybe you're one of those its called RE so therefore I must feel that its a 9.6 game no matter what people? Nyaa

Well maybe I am, wait what... Nyaa

I dont know what to say man, you are a guy that stopped playing it half way through. I am a guy that played it about 8 times already, I have done a speed run with Skylock (2nd in the world at the time), played with a friend on pro mode, done tons of Mercs with buddies, love versus mode even if its a bit dumb, got the platnium, and my hours total over 100. So yeah there is a difference there.

Square-Enix manages to piss me off again this week.  "We won't make another Chrono Trigger unless you useless consumers start buying our weak-ass DS remake.  Now how do you like that fuck heads?"

Seriously, they're trying to gauge interest in the series by how many sales one of the most expensive DS games ever to hit retails sells that just happens to be a remake of a 13 year old game?  Fucking brilliant.  I think this is just an excuse for, "we forgot how to make new games, but we believe this is an acceptible excuse."

What crap.

Knights in the Nightmare:

Alright, it's impressions time:

After playing this game this weekend (in between climbing mountains and drinking lots of alcohol), I have come to at least one conclusion: They have mis-named this game, it should have been called "Je Ne Sais Quoi." There's just something about it, and, yes, I'll say it again: the last game that gave me this type of feeling was TWEWY!

I won't repeat what I've already written, but I keep on being impressed by the deep color scheme of this game and all of the little graphical details you'll miss if you don't pay attention. This was true for Riviera. This was true for Yggdra Union, and it is true for Knights in the Nightmare. The artists for these games just go the extra mile to make it that much more distinct than many other games.

The gameplay system is sooo fresh and unique, so simple yet so intricate. It's an SRPG, but it keeps you on your toes like a shooter would. There's simply NOTHING else like it! You'll play first and be confused. You'll play some more and discover a tidbit here and there. You'll gladly go back and replay the early battles just to do it "right"... You'll do it "just one more time", "just one more time"... This game will make the perfectionist/completionist in you SCREAM... but it will tempt the hardcore shooter fan in you like a siren on a rock in the sea. The stat heavy, rpg fan side of you will be in heaven, the quick-action, play a battle in five minutes, action side of you will be satiated...

You'll swear to yourself (and out loud) that it's NEVER going to make sense, then a beaming smile will come over your face as things just start to "click" one after the other...

I must say that the game industry NEEDS more developers like ST!NG, as they are CLEARLY not afraid to take risks and try new things, and make the absolute best use of the hardware they are working with! I --CANNOT-- see this game working on --ANY-- other platform. The touching, drag and dropping and dodging with the stylus just works soooooo well, to play it with a control pad or analog stick would be unfathomable!

I want to reach out and slap all the lazy gamers who are intimidated by this game! All of you whiners that say casuals are taking over the industry, yet have the audacity to ignore one of the freshest "core" offerings in the last few years, need to go out buy this game and FORCE YOURSELVES to learn how to play it! I guarantee when I see The Legend of Starfy sell a bazillion more copies than this, and I hear someone complain there's nothing out there for "gamers" anymore, they WILL be hearing from me!

Please. Please. Please. Take a word of advice from Olde Leo and GIVE THIS GAME A CHANCE ! ! !

Quotes taken from the 8.5 / 10 "Great" Destructoid Review:

"I have no problem saying that I'm extremely excited about Knights in the Nightmare. I've found myself talking about it often, to many people. But it's such a deep and complex game that I feel like I'm not doing the game justice, and perhaps I'm confusing everyone I try to explain it to. Even when trying demonstrate how the battle system works to my co-workers, I feel like I've let the game down somehow, and it seems that all I've done is give them pause on what is a fantastically original title. For this review, I'll do my best to explain how the battle system works, but it has to be said that only by trying it for yourself will you fully understand how deep and involving this title can get."

"In the end, no other DS title plays like Knights in the Nightmare. It's one of those games that gives you as much as you put into it. If you invest the time to learn the game play, you'll be greatly rewarded with a fresh, addictive battle system. This is gamer's game that begs to be explored more. Knights in the Nightmare may not be a good fit for the casual or impatient gamer, but if you're one that's tired of the same old DS strategy role-playing titles, you likely be thrilled by this unique game."

Wow, so the 360/PS3 versions of Virtua tennis are getting 7/10s which torpedoed that idea, now Eurogamer 5/10 Grand Slam Tennis.

Difficulty isn't so bad then. Could be that the controls are good requiring you to actually play the shots properly and unfortunately they suck at tennis. Nyaa

Previews are ALWAYS overwhelmingly positive, though.

Oh Joy.

Norton Antivirus Windows sucks. I stopped using their crappy products years ago.

Fixed

Wow, that really sucks!

Consider this an opportunity.  Antivirus is a security blanket.  Culturally it's presumed necessary, practically it's virtually useless.  If a security issue reaches the point that your antivirus program has a chance to do something useful, you've already failed.  It may or may not prevent harm, but it should never have gotten to that point in the first place.

My position is basically that I ran Windows every day for over 5 years without antivirus.  If I were to hypothetically get an infection tomorrow that an antivirus program would have prevented, it would have been well worth it for the time saved from having that crap on my computer.

As for Norton, I've seen malware easier to remove than Norton.

There's a program that slows your computer to a crawl, harasses you when you try to do anything, then pesters you for money.  Some people call it a virus.  I call it antivirus.

For safety,
-Have your connection pass through a NAT router with Universal Plug N' Play disabled
-Don't use Internet Explorer (except for Windows Updates)
-Don't run coldplay.mp3.exe
-Don't use anything from Apple
-Don't store your files on the Windows partition
-Don't run as admin
-And if you still want extra protection, use Sandboxie

Preferably don't use Windows Nyaa

^I worked in I.T for 15-20 years until I got sick of working, and I have never installed anti-virus on my Windows machines (and never had a problem).

There is a place for anti-virus, for users who don't know what the risks are.

Off-topic, on alternate OS, I just installed Kubuntu on a bricked Windows laptop and I'm digging it.  If I could get Mozilla to work on it (or any browser other than Koquerer).

Hmm, great suggestions; I'm probably breaking most of them. LOL

Okay, I have some of noob questions for ya?

Is any home router a "NAT" router? I have a Linksys router w/ voice-over-IP for my telephone. I never even heard of "Universial Plug N' Play." Hmm, I need to figure out how to gain access my router again . . . .

Even IE8? GASP Nyaa

Apple software = bad? Why?

What is coldplay.mp3.exe? Is it something I should disable on my computer? I Google searched it, and all I found was torrents. I never use torrents, so I don't know if this applies to me or not.

Thanks

I think that was his point. Don't torrent, and if you do don't open exes disguised as mp3s?

But I could be wrong.
