What games did everyone play over the weekend? I played none.
I was playing Strangres Wrath, and I was on the second last level, and then my xbox killed itself!
You'd think that if an Xbox wanted to commit suicide, it would do it on a bad games watch.
I just got home, De Blob was on my doorstep, I've watching the title screen now. Impressions later.

That's true. After looking around a bit, you can do a lot of that yourself.
De Blob
I have played roughly half and hour to forty minutes. It's a breezy, relaxed chill out game. You sort of roll on through these cityscapes by the sea to the most awesome-est music and sound design in the world ever. And paint the buildings either freely, or to spec from one of the challenges that pops up.
Graphics are crisp and smooth as heck, colourful and vibrant. It has a great atmosphere. The controls work really well, althoug it is a shame that the wii remote wasn't used more, there is a lot of potential. Gesturing to jump actually works very well and it makes you feel like you are smashing a massive squash ball about physically. Presentation is tops, really slick and well made menus and cutscenes etc.
The sound design is fantastic and better be winning awards or I will get mad. It not only has some of the best breezy, funk, soul and jazz ; it has this method which actually plays notes - almost like improvisation - when you colour buildings. The sound changes depending on the texture/colour you have and you can literally paint music to your liking at parts.
It's a slick, well made game. I think you guys would like it.

I think I found the wiiware game you were looking for. It's from the Bits Generation of games never released outside of Japan. The gameplay matches the description, I am not sure if it is the exact same version. Maybe they graphics are better or something. The video is posted in the GGweekly section.
Has your 180 been chillin' with a 360? Grr...I need to buy an Xbox 180 to play that game, as well as a few others. Eh, its only 50 bucks now.
I'm going to start playing De Blob today also. Can't wait.
But truth be told I'd rather play with THIS. Good god I'd bounce her off my fucking walls.

the sound design for de Blob sounds somewhat like what Q? entertainment did for games like Rez and Lumines. interweaving the sound FX with the the music in a way making it more real-time and part of the gameplay. sounds awesome. added with the bright primary colour art-style this sounds like ... another stoner masterpiece on a nintendo machine!

I haven't played those, but in De Blob it's not sound effects, it's actual musical notes. You want to keep splattering buildings partly because a great tune plays when you chain together moves.
One great thing is that the game has a mario style wall jump, but because of your blob shape and wii remote controls, it's like ping ponging off the walls. Pretty fun.
One thing the game misses is voice acting though. I see no valid reason for the lack of it.
First and foremost wowzers at teh hotness that is Maria Ozawa.
Secondly I only played Tales of Vesperia over the weekend. Currently at around the 20 hour mark and man is this game ever great. Really good story and cast of characters and none of them have been annoying. I'm really enjoying the battle system which seems tighter then usual and some new additions such as Fatal Strikes and Fatal Strike Chains are quite cool. I have yet to take control of other party members to try out all their moves and stuff as I'm still really just playing around with the main character's setlist and controls. The AI seems to be doing a good job controling my teammates. Setting up various different skills in conjunction with performing different artes to learn new moves is quite deep and really offers a lot to play with. Also the soundtrack is excellent and makes me wish I had picked up the Collector's Edition that came packed with a soundtrack cd which was only $10 more. The game simply looks gorgeous to boot.
Ugh I don't even see why this is even an issue. Why it's even being thought about.

Bleszinski: 'We don't feel threatened by casual gamers'With Microsoft's latest Xbox marketing blitz aimed squarely at attracting more casual gamers, even its most hardcore franchise is softening up – but Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski has insisted his team "don't feel threatened by it" like other developers.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz in London ahead of the release of Gears of War 2 on November 7, Bleszinski conceded that Microsoft faced a challenge in promoting the "chainsaws and blood" of the game alongside a family-oriented strategy with titles like Lips and You're In The Movies.
"Microsoft currently has to walk that line right now where they're selling a game that's a bit more hardcore like a Gears while trying to expand the installed base in regards to casual gamers," he said. But he revealed that, despite its violent, mature content, Gears of War 2 had been adapted to appeal to a broader userbase.
"Thankfully I'm in a position where I'm just trying to make the best game possible, but at the same time make sure that Casual [difficulty] is truly, truly easy, as well as having a little bit of heart in the story with a game that, yes, it's about monsters, yes, it's about chainsaws and blood, but it's also about a guy who's looking for his wife.
"There's still a fair amount of jock, fratboy, macho bullshit in the game – I'm not going to lie. But at the same time, there's a little bit more personal elements in there, and some of the themes in the game with loss, retribution and the sadness of war, I think they're coming through a lot more in this game."
On the growth of casual gaming, Bleszinksi said that "a certain amount of the hardcore game developers are nervous about that, and they feel threatened by it." But he insisted that both he and Epic Games welcomed this trend, adding: "We say anybody playing videogames in our opinion is a very, very good thing."
Microsoft last week unveiled its latest marketing campaign to target casual users. Sources close to the company had previously revealed to GamesIndustry.biz disagreements over allocation of marketing resources, with uncertainty over how heavily Gears of War 2 should be pushed at the same time as the broader-appeal offerings for the platform during peak season.
