The only thing that surprises me about that graph is that the original Xbox had that many launch window games. PS2 also actually...because I remember both machines having not much worth playing for quite awhile.

PS2 was close to worthless if you had a Dreamcast, from October 2000 all the way up until Red Faction (which was a great FPS at the time) and Half Life (which was a Dreamcast port...lol) launched for it around summer 2001. That's when PS2 finally exploded.

Xbox of course launched with Halo, arguably the best launch game of all time, November 2001. Other than that, it had a ton of PS2 ports (like the Wii U has of 360 ports) and didn't really become more than the Halo machine for ages. Elder Scrolls 3 was pretty much the next big game around June 2002.

Gamecube launched November 2001 with a few GOOD games, nothing approaching amazing other than Pikmin IMO. Its first truly AAA title was Resident Evil remake, May 2002. Followed closely by Eternal Darkness in June...then the Cube finished with a very strong year (its best year, honestly).

Xbox 360...launch November 2005 with a handful of GOOD games, Call of Duty 2 (before COD was so popular) and Perfect Dark Zero. People at the time questioned how much better it really was than Xbox 1, because the launch software did not show it. Got its first couple GREAT games around March or April 2006 with Ghost Recon and Elder Scrolls 4...then went back into a drought until the fall of 2006.

PS3 was an inferior 360 port machine with a few DECENT exclusives...nothing worth spending $600 for, that's for damn sure. Launched in November 2006. And PS3 didn't get really good until.....well, never really. Its got a few AAA exclusives, but its always been an inferior 360 port machine.

Wii launched November 2006 with a Gamecube port and some quirky games. Its next major title was....Resident Evil 4? Another Cube port? Went on to have an amazing 2007 with by far its best year for games. Nintendo systems seem to usually enjoy their most robust year software wise the year AFTER launch. Then towards the ending year or 2 before a successor console, they just die out.

So really, EVERY NEW CONSOLE takes about 5 or 6 months before a more steady flow of AAA games start coming out.

Just talked to a friend who used to work for IGN, we talked about how there are no standards in game "journalism". He said that for Zelda SS they had a score all set but then the day before the review was to be put out NoA came in and had a big emergency meeting with them saying if they want to keep a good relationship Zelda needs to get one point higher. So that score changed.  Basically he said dont believe anything from the big sites as it is all about keeping the publishers happy.

I'd be more worried about IGN having no standards when it comes to the actual review itself...

The people that do IGN Nintendo now are horrible compared to when Matt Cassamassina was there. Its funny that you say this, because I was just thinking about how much I miss having Matt C over there last night, skimming through some of the old articles. He was by far the best Nintendo guy out there, anywhere, and IGN Nintendo would be about 99% better right now with him. He always did what seemed like thoughtful and fair reviews, well written. Always had the news & rumors 3 months before anybody else. & wrote interesting pieces all the time.

That site without him is so generic & soulless. Just like Gamespot after Kasavin. Or EGM post 2000.

I'm going to rent it later this week (assuming it's available). The reviews have been so mixed for it, that even at it's discount price I'm a little wary of purchasing it immediately. However, it's safe to say that within 2 months this game will be dirt cheap, and even if it's an average game it'll probably be worth buying at $15.

Dude you've been complaining about the Wii U since BEFORE it was out. Why did you even buy it? lol

All new consoles go through this lack of software...why do you act as if its only the Wii U? The 360 didn't have shit for awhile, the Wii didn't have shit, the PS3 was worse than BOTH, etc.

This. Exactly this.  Bear, I am truly baffled as to why you bought a Wii U.  You passed on Zombie U, right?  I just think that after six console generations we should all know what to expect from a Nintendo console these days.  Well get some incredible first party games that Nintendo will put out on their own sweet time, some cool third party exclusives, and some mostly mediocre ports from third parties.

Do I wish things were different?  Absolutely.  But I buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games.

I want a Wii U.  You want to sell a Wii U.  $200?

Tried the sonic transformed demo. It's.... okay. More of a driving game than kart game, then the water parts are pointless. I like flying, if the whole game was flying I might like it more. Reminds me of diddy kong racing.

Graphics are great like what kameo would look like if made today. When driving it doesn't look great though, too much blur, a touch framey. Handling isn't tight, but isn't loose either. The two tracks I tried were a little dull. Seems like an okay game. It's no mario kart though.

I was counting on you Sad

It's under 20 euro here upon launch.  I doubt it will get much cheaper than that for a while.  I know they've been practically trying to give away copies of Madworld ... but they must have made a mistake and pressed way too many.  I doubt they'd make the same mistake again, though this being SEGA nothing would surprise me.  Still 20 euros ... that's like 3 beers at the pub ... and I may just stay home tonight WinkWink

Woke up this morning with the voice from Gauntlet narrating every thought in my head. First it was "Leo needs to pee, BADLY!"

Then it was "Leo needs coffee, BADLY!"

Gonna be a strange day, I think.

It's no Mario Kart. I totally agree with that, but it's a worthwhile racer. It's a much faster racer, and skill is a lot more important than luck. The level design really enters into how good the flying and boating parts are. On the new Monkey Ball level and the Burning Rangers level the boating sections are amazing. Flying is the same way. On the After burner level it's fantastic. On the NiGHTS into Dreams level it's kind of crap (though overall that track is still fantastic). The only thing I really don't like about the game is the challenge levels that you're forced to play and complete in order to progress further into the game (the Golden Axe lava level in the demo is an example of that).

As long as that voice is in your head and not from someone standing right over you as you wake up, you're probably safe.

Yeah I know. I'm broke as hell these days so renting is my only option for a while. Plus Ni No Kuni comes out this week and that's the game I've been looking forward to in a huge way for over a year. It's going to take precedence over anything else once I get a hold of it.
