I seem to recall some questions about the recently deceased son of my coworker, sorry I didn't answer before but work's been a bitch as of lately.
The guy never knew he was diabetic. He developed (and died of) an acute complication of it called hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state.
The information at the link is rather outdated, but it gives you a general idea.
Very disappointed in the EG article endorsing Blizzard's stupid always online/DRM check model for Diablo III. Rather disgraceful I think

Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
I didn't really read it as an endorsement. They had an article detailing the online features that you get as a trade-off for the downsides detailed in a separate one. I'm willing to grant they have some features that make use of always being online.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobileDumbest headline of the day goes to 1UP:
Activision's "Project Icebreaker" Could Hurt its Reputation Among Devs
Really? Spying on your key developers to see if you can dig up something to fire them over might shade the attitude of the devs you still employ?
I can't remember who I was cheering for in the Activision vs West & Zampella suit. Maybe they'll all be in a courthouse one day and a meteor will hit it.
All thoughtful, reasonable people rallied behind Activision (albeit reluctantly). Reasons:
They were rogue employees. Now what colors this a little is that Activision just paid $42 million in back-bonuses to them and other former Infinity Ward team members. If I had been owed $42 million in bonuses that I thought Activision was never going to pay I would have done all the above and worse. But they are still jerks.
EDIT: Bonus Content
Both parties seem pretty childish to me. So I root against West and Zampella by default.
^Hey Chris, read your article, could not help but think what Pachter would have said in the post-Atari 2600 era before NES. Probably something like, "...casual gamers are never buying consoles again."
Blizzard didn't prepare for launch? It's a bit hard to believe that they rushed it out.
lol, yeah. If you say "never" you better be sure of it. Thanks for checking it out, btw!
This is easily the biggest news of the week, this crazy scandal with Curt Shillings 38 Studios, the devs of Kingdom of Amular.
The state of Rhode Island gave them a $75 million loan to stay in RI. It is supposed to fund their next game which is an MMO, that has never been shown and is supposed to come out this year, oops. Well the state needs a 1.2 million load payment right now so Curt Shilling DOES NOT PAY HIS EMPLOYEES, FIRES ALL TEMPS and gives the state a check that just BOUNCED.
Then there is this:
Oh man it seems like Curt paid himself back $4 million and paid Salvatore $1.46 million. But now they dont have a 1 million something needed to pay the state so they dont pay any of the employees. AWESOME CURT.
http://blogs.wpri.com/2012/05/14/38-studios-finances-under-scrutiny-ri-taxpayers-75m-at-risk/
In July 2010, the same month the EDC approved the loan guarantee, 38 Studios established a revolving line of credit with Schilling so it could borrow up to $4 million from him, according to the disclosure filing obtained by WPRI.com. Part of the taxpayer-guaranteed loan money was used to pay Schilling back.
R.A. Salvatore, a fantasy writer who helped develop the games, is slated to receive $1.46 million from 38 Studios in October under the terms of a consulting agreement he signed with the company in 2007. He is also eligible to earn up to $5 million in royalties from sales of ?Reckoning? and other 38 Studios products.
Uh I had other plans. WTF is wrong with you. Oh that is right you are Iga.
The whole 38 studios thing once again makes this industry seem incompetent, because it is. Curt Shilling has no clue what he is doing running a game company, no state will ever help fund anything gaming related, not that they should. And it is another story of game devs being treated like shit not getting paid for their work.
Puts Team Bondi to shame.
All I hear is excuses. Maybe if you keep making them you will believe them.
This is my kind of self-help, Iga. Keep evolving.
Speaking of evolving. Check my new avatar.
Eat my shiny metal ass meatbags!
Rhode Island is my state man....I am 10 minutes away from 38 Studios.
My girlfriend kept telling me to apply there when they 1st started out. Well, I'm still looking forward to playing Reckoning one day.
Tax payers in this state get ripped off more than any other...and this is another example of it. Why anyone would want to start a company here, I have no idea.
They're trying to run the place like a retail store.
