Dark Souls 1.19 million units on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Europe and the US, to be exact. Japan sales aren't included because there the game was published by From Software itself in collaboration with Sony Computer Entertainment Japan.





Shifting over a million units in the West alone can only be considered a success, and with the upcoming PC release set to add to that tally, From Software is no doubt celebrating. A sequel - or at least a spiritual successor - can't be far off.





Elsewhere in Namco Bandai's 2012 financial results, which brings the Japanese company up to the end of March, Ace Combat Assault Horizon sold 1.07 million copies on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Japan, the US and Europe. Dragon Ball Ultimate Blast shifted 700,000 copies, and fighting game SoulCalibur 5 sold 690,000 in Europe and the US - Japan sales weren't included.





Also included are sales of games currently only available in Japan. One Piece "Kaizoku Musou" sold 940,000, and Tales of Xillia sold 770,000. Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS. sold 570,000.





Overall, Namco Bandai saw net income of 19.3 million yen (£149.6 million) off the back of 454.2 billion yen (£3.52 billion) in revenue. That net income amounts to a whopping 1044.3 per cent rise year on year.

Capcom sales

Increase profits in the coming year with a focus on "high growth potential online content" including mobile games and DLC.





Net sales revenue for the 12 months ending March 31 came to ¥82 billion (£635.2m), a drop of 16 per cent. Net income, or profit, fell 13.3 per cent to ¥6.7 billion (£52m).





The worst declines were in Capcom's consumer online games division, where revenue fell by almost 24 per cent despite Asura's Wrath, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and Street Fighter X Tekken all selling over a million units. Monster Hunter Tri G sold 1.6 million units on 3DS.





Capcom blamed the decline on a lack of major titles compared to last year, when strong sales of console games drove an increase in profits of 257.6 per cent. The decision to delay Dragon's Dogma also played a part.





The publisher's mobile division, however, is on the up. Net sales rose 56.6 per cent year on year to $6.3 billion (£48.8m), with operating income up 74.6 per cent to ¥2.3 billion (£18.5bn). Much of that success came from Japan and Asia, with Snoopy's Street Fair, Smurfs Village, and a pair of Monster Hunter titles all contributing to Capcom's growth in mobile.





Mobile, together with PC online games and downloads for console titles, is a key part of Capcom's plans for the coming year. It expects net sales to rise 28 per cent, to ¥105 billion.

In total Operation Raccoon City sold 1.7m units across Europe and the US – in addition to the 250k+ it sold in Japan – making it Capcom’s 25th best-selling title of all time.

3DS title Monster Hunter 3G has also sold well, shifting 1.6m units in Japan. Worldwide sales of Street Fighter X Tekken came in below expectations at 1.4m.

New dashboard app that helps you exercise.

An upcoming Xbox 360 dashboard update will add support for Joule, a new wireless heart rate monitor which will track your exercise across most Kinect games.



The new service, dubbed Kinect Play Fit, obtains heart rate data from Joule and stores it in the cloud.



You'll be able to use Kinect Play Fit even without a Joule monitor, The Verge said, although how this will work is currently unclear.



Support for fitness-orientated games such as Kinect Sports is likely, as is support for dancing games such as Dance Central. But what about other Kinect titles? Will Joule be compatible with Kinect Star Wars' lightsaber duels? Can we track the calories burnt while rolling with our Kinectimals?



More information about the upcoming tech is a fair bet for Microsoft's E3 conference next month.

I was going to post this news from Pachter a few days ago but I didn't want to annoy anyone. Seeing this story makes me wonder. Anyhow basically Pachter said that he spoke to the guys at Microsoft and they told him not to expect many new games at E3 and that the focus would be more on services. I was wondering if maybe they were in a transitional year and that devs would be making Durango games and so they might not be much new for 360 at E3?

And "Joule, a new wireless heart rate monitor which will track your exercise" am I being cynical or is this MS's Vitality Sensor?

Nice to see those numbers for Dark Soul. Hopefully that might be a clue to other developers that there is an audiende that enjoys challenging games, and not just optional difficulty modes.
