MURAMASA IS RICOCKULOUSLY. BEAUTIFEROUS ! ! !
W-O-W-Z-E-R-S ! ! !

George Kamitani is a master artist. I wonder if only 13 people made this game like Odin Sphere and GrimGrimoire.
Also, what killed Odin Sphere were slowdowns. Does this game have any slow downs? I hope not. IGN doesn't mention them.
I'm almost there until I finally get a Wii and this will definitely be on my list!

Even though if Muramasa may have questionable gameplay elements, this game is in no way a measly 6! It deserves high marks on art, aesthetics, originality, and creativity alone!
Here's what Edge said (From Metacritic):
"Is Muramasa a luscious concept art gallery rudely interrupted by swordplay, or just a ponderous Ninja Gaiden clone. Whatever the case, it doesn't wholly succeed."
WHAT!? That makes me seething with anger!
These are the same guys who gave Metal Gear Solid IV a 8, Batman Arkham Asylum a 8, Killzone 2 a 7, and God of War 2 a 7.

FUCK EDGE ! ! !
Who takes them seriously, anyway? In my 25+ years of gaming, I have never even browsed one of their magazines! Every review score I see from them is waaay off! It's like using Maxim as a review source. Don't bother!
I go on record here as saying this: MURAMASA IS HANDS-DOWN THE B-E-S-T LOOKING 2D GAME I HAVE EVER, EVER, EVER PLAYED! ...and I have practically played them all. The HUMONGOUS SPRITES. THE JAPANESE ARTISTRY. THE FLUIDITY OF THE MOTION. THE STUNNING USE OF COLOR. THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL. MASTERFUL ! ! !
Truly, until you see this game for yourself, on your TV screen, in motion YOU. ARE. NOT. GOING. TO. BELIEVE. IT ! ! !
I have been playing and playing for the last two hours, jaw agape, not believing this is a 2009 game! It's like someone peered into my brain back in 1990 when I was envisioning what the best 2D game could ever look like, took the 2D game play from that time period and lovingly crafted Muramasa!
If the graphics alone were the entire package, they would almost be enough --BUT-- the Japanese Music and the Sword Crafting system just take it that much further. Every sword has some kind of advantage from durability to adding to your overall strength to 2D-sensible, Special Attacks!
This is ABSOLUTELY one of those games that 20 years from NOW, It would CERTAINLY be in one of my SLEEPER style topics! It's that much of a LANDMARK, BENCHMARK, UNPRECEDENTED game!!!
I (obviously) CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD ABOUT IT ! ! !
**just WAIT 'til you see this in motion!**
That's overstating the difficulty a tad. I'd say taxing enough to feel boring.
They act all pompous and their reviews sound like they're all sophisticated and highbrow, but when a beautifully illustrated and masterfully crafted, artistic game like Muramasa comes around, they completely dismiss it and say it's a Ninja Gaiden clone. Basically, they're saying the game is archaic and stuck in the past so it's not relevant anymore.
I've seen those videos and that does NOT look or play like a relic to me.
Does Edge understand that sometimes "less is more" and that more simpler things can allow people to appreciate the other subtle beauty that shines through a game like Muramasa. Isn't that what art is?
Not saying Muramasa is anything but simple, but the game seems balanced and well-designed. It seems they fixed all the problems from Odin Sphere and made a game that's just a pure joy to play while taking in all that glorious artwork.
See Edge? I can sound learned too. But at least I have enough sense to acknowledge and recognize a true masterpiece instead of bashing it with my arrogance trying to act like I know what I'm talking about!

I was a big EDGE fan, but I'm done with them. They are pretentious, they don;t put their names to their reviews and they hit below the belt with their reviews (as with Conduit). I'm not re-newing my $100 subscription to them that's for sure.
it's like reviews for this game didn't even matter from anyone (let alone EDGE). iga's been championing the game since it was announced and i believe most of us here pretty much decided we were getting it upon looking at the first batch of screenshots. to any long time gamer who has any love for the japanese games of the 80ies and early 90ies this should be a no-brainer.
by the way it isn't just EDGE that gave this game a low score, most reviews were scoring it around 6 until ign. saying it was a case of style over substance and that it looked good but was boring to play. i'm happy bozon was brave enough to be different. but like i said with a game like this, reviews matter even less than they normally do.
when you have impressions like those of Leo! what more do you need? (thanks man!)
