Right now I'm stuck trying to beat the man-eaters.  Last time I used the bow cheat and killed them before even entering the fog but I have decided to fight every boss this time around.  Grrrr.

I tried loads of invasions, its screwed up in this game. Everyone I invade has a damn team of phantoms waiting to destroy me. WHy is there no one playing this alone? Sometimes I get an invade ally too and it becomes an all out war, which is fun but I miss the one on one combat. Also the wolf covenant seems to never work for me, none of the protect covenants have worked once for me. DS2 did online better.

I really don't get the elemental stats now. So I have a fire scythe, very powerful, total damage is more than my katana. I fought this creature that was weak to fire, I used a fire spell and it had huge damage. I use my fire scythe and I do less damage than my plain katana, how does that make any sense. I have a dark weapon, seems no one is weak to that, I continuously do less damage than I should with it. The elemental system is just poor in this series. Is this like DS1 where everything is weak to lightning.

The level design is fantastic though, best in the series.

Maybe it was the areas where you tried invading.  If it's become like a "multiplayer arena" of sorts like Darkroot and Anor Lando did in DS1 then you will always find teams of phantoms waiting.

Those things scale to your own personal stats as well. The Katana might be better suited for your actual character build.

So I am 25 hours in, the game is definitely excellent but lacks any surprises. It seems like its the best DS game but because it is mostly a copy of DS1 it no where near has the same impact, its the Zelda TP effect.

The world is gorgeous, so many interesting areas, they are huge and super detailed with crossing paths and secrets everywhere. There are some really cool enemies, good ambushes, surprisingly though bosses have been rare to come by. I have not faced a tough one yet. The coolest was the first lord, really awesome fight and the weapon he gives you is amazing. This thing lets me slide across the floor and do a flip jump in the air, its sweet. Its maybe the best designed Souls game, not one bad area yet.

+1

This is quickly becoming my second favorite souls game. The locations are incredible, so many awesome moments. I am doing quite a bit of PvP as well here is a video.

The single most annoying thing about Dark Souls lately isn’t the difficulty, isn’t the bosses, isn’t the framerate…

…it’s the trolls that simply MUST post messages by doors, ladders… any interactive item –JUST– to be annoying…

A LOT of 12 year olds must play the game; these kids find ending every last message in “but hole” endlessly amusing…

I’m not amused.

Yeah the whole "but hole" was amusing for the first couple of times but quickly wore thin because there were just so many of them everywhere. Also people putting "hidden door" messages in front of so many walls was kind of annoying too.

Man Irythrill is one of the coolest areas ever. That Pontiff fight, wow. Also a blast to coop.

Some of these NPC quests are impossible without a guide, you wouldn’t even know what to look for.

Just for you Leo.

Can you imagine castlevania looking like this. (its the above area, you may not want to see this if you are not there yet.)

Yeah, Pontiff was the first boss I nearly rage quit trying to beat him. He is one of the toughest in the game.

The way this game panders to its fanbase is so eye roll inducing, one of the bosses is such a blatant "Remember Demon's Souls bro" moment, and took any excitement out of the encounter. I love the previous games (except Dark Souls 2, that game blows), but I've never been one for greatest hits, or "love letter to the fans" bullshit. That stuff just comes of creatively dull.

Just completed the game. I will say Dark Souls is still my favorite, but this one is a very close second. Lived the music and environments(mostly), and the gameplay was intense and satisfying.  That said I do feel there are a few things that sets this one back a bit.

1. Lock on system: Most times? Works just fine, but when you need it to work is when it will fail you. Does it happen a lot? No. Will it happen enough to think it's a problem? Yes.

2. NPC side quests: Unless you use a guide you will not know who triggers what. I'll confess that this has been the case in other games too, but here it's just horribly cryptic.

3. Difficulty spike: Yes, I know. We are talking about a souls game, but a fair amount of areas are challenging without feeling too brutal...and then you hit a certain area. The area and it's boss are exceptionally difficult.  Add to the fact that, as of right now, it's a popular invasion spot and you have a recipe for a very bad time. Again, I know it's a souls game but the difficulty jump was just higher than I expected. Maybe this is nitpicking, but I found it a little jarring.

These complaints aside, I still fou d it to be a blast. As with all souls games, I have more questions than answers in regards to the story, but I had a great time and will be replaying it to see if there are other endings.

For the msot part, yeah, it's a really good game. I just wish it was more compelling on a creative level. Bloodborne had some unnecessary changes (Bloodvial and bullet system led to farming, the stripped down builds, the way PvP was gimped), but I also dug a lot of the new stuff, and the lore appropriate systems were dope. Even Mother Brain and his bullshit.

PvP was gimped in BB? I loved PvP in that game.
