Any speculation on what the other M is?  Newly discovered Metroid?

You know, that question brings up a troublesome point:

If this game takes place between Super Metroid and Fusion, and the hatchling was killed --AND-- all the other Metroid were exterminated --AT LEAST-- as Samus thought until she finds them being genetically raised on the satellite in Fusion --THEN HOW-- would there possibly be Metroids in this game?

Please don't tell me we are going to get another Metroid-free, Metroid game!

Unless:

(1) There's a newly discovered Metroid.

(2) The other "Metroid" threat will be the rise of the X-Virus as seen in Fusion?

Thats what i didnt like about MP2 and MP3, they started moving away from the Metroids. Those things are so damn creepy.

The Metroid Manga

Read it!

I hope Sakamoto explains the pirate leadership structure. Who's the leader Ridley or Mother Brain?! And what about the High Command?

I was very surprised by this announcement but being a huge Team Ninja fan and a fan of Metroid, Super Metroid in particular, I am seriously pumped for this game.

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/06/metroid-interview/

Wired.com: As the new leader of Team Ninja, do you think that your personal style, in terms of game design and what you’d like to see in a videogame, differs from that of the former leadership of Team Ninja?

Hayashi: While it is true that every team might have its own distinct flavor, I do think that everyone’s contribution is largely determined by their own personality. While I have experience being a member of this Team Ninja group, I also think it’s a combination of my experiences and my own personality that will result not in something that I can explain in words, but that is ultimately made evident through the games that I develop.

Wired.com: What’s it like working on Wii versus Xbox 360? Team Ninja has a reputation for high-quality graphics, what’s it like shifting hardware?

Hayashi: I think within the entire Nintendo universe, that I have a responsibility to make Metroid the most beautiful, not only in terms of its graphics but also its game design. So my approach is one that — given that my understanding of the Metroid universe is being this beautiful experience — my responsibility is to stay true to that.

Wired.com: What about the rest of the Metroid series? Will there be another Prime game? Will the handheld games continue on DS?

Sakamoto: With regards to the Prime series, if the team at Retro comes up with an idea that does bring a sequel to the series to fruition, I by all means encourage them to do that. But I’m not directly involved with the Prime games. In terms of the Metroid series stories that I’ve told, the games that I’ve been involved in, I started with the NES Metroid and took it through Fusion. I’m hoping to tie the Super Metroid and Fusion stories together, and until I do that I can’t think about what happens after Fusion, but if the concept does come to me I’d like to continue the story and see how far it can go.

how would 2D scanning work?

my reaction was, fair enough no scanning since it's no longer in the first person BUT scanning was also a mode of giving you the actual story, or the lore if you like in the Prime games.  personally i loved discovering the story myself by scanning the writings of the chozo and what not, rather than having it spoonfed through annoying cutscenes.  so it makes no sense to say no scanning because focus is on the story

How would scanning work with regards to Samus own personal story? You scan your own diary?

Scanning in 2-D is easy, just waft the wii remote via IR over the screen. Then you identify a spot and hit a button.

i don't know.  i didn't read that article, is it saying no scanning because this game will be all about samus' story?  i was just saying that scanning was used nicely for backstory in the prime games.  and even if scanning isn't used to facilitate the story, i still don't see how the two are mutually exclusive

I'd rather skip the scanning entirely.  It was neat in Prime and I liked how it showed the backstory of everything that you saw, but it got old after a while.  I think Metroid is in need of just a good old fashion traditional narrative.

I hated all the scanning in the Prime games. It took way too long most of the time, and just wasn't fun, IMO.
