Yay! Finally I can get around to playing Majora's Mask. It's the only Zelda game I haven't played, unless you count those CDi games.
Well I guess you can also add that one to my list of Zelda games I haven't played.

that's actually supposed to be pretty good, no?

MM sounds different enough that I will probably beat it. In any case, I've never really viewed my complaints about the Zelda games as actual flaws with the game. The things that make it unique and enjoyable for some are the things that make me lose interest and forget to ever go back and finish the game. The lack of story in Zelda isn't a problem with the game, it is a problem with me. They are most assuredly fantastic games. I buy Zelda games whenever they come out, and I get a lot of enjoyment from them, even when I don't beat them.
Thats cool, they are really really long games.

I'm not sure if it's good or not actually but regardless I'll most likely never play it.
That's two of us. Actually, scratch the "most likely" part.
Meh,still nothing good. Fuck you Nintendo!!!
Who am I kidding, this is tied for my favorite Zelda of all time, hence a tie for favorite game of all time! I love how this game dared to be so different from OoT. It's so much darker and even quirkier than it's predecessor. It break the rules on how a Zelda game should be. You constantly have a feeling of doom, like the world really is gonna be destroyed, with so little time to save it. In terms of graphics, there is no N64 game that is equal. Some of the ocarina cutscenes are still amazing today, especially warping and time travel. If you've never played it, buy this game! Money well spent.

Some zelda fans rank it as their favourite. Playing so many years later though, that's got to be harsh on the eyes.
I turn off my inner graphics whore when playing older games, so I'm sure the graphics won't cut my eyes. Vader gets pissed every time I say it, but, to this day I haven't beaten a single Zelda game. I have the attention span of a goldfish.
Maybe the cartoons are more your thang? Or Phantom Hourglass which gets unreasonable hatred from people here!

... I beat Demon's Souls though... beating the 'hardest game of the gen' has to count for something.
*opens can of worms*
In any case, I never quit a Zelda game due to difficulty, I just had a hard time investing so much time in a game with little or no narrative to drive it forward. I always ended up just quitting the game whenever I had had my fill of the gameplay since I had no interest in seeing how the story panned out.
You basically described me with Okami.
Oh tips for those unfamiliar with the game. The game has a 3 day cycle and when you want to save through the menu it returns you to the beggining.
1. So save at the Eagle statues. But these saves aren't permanent. As soon as you log back in the save is gone and you will need to either hit another eagle statue or start the 3 day cycle over.
2. The game is really ALL about the BOMBERS NOTEBOOK, a log book you get from 4 little kids in Termina. It marks out events you can participate in at certain times of the day.
3. You need to use the Ocarina to slow down or speed up the passage of time, this makes the game much easier to get through.
4. Pro tip? When starting a dungeon, make sure you start from day 1 and slow down time to do it. There is no point starting a dungeon on day 3.

Sounds tedious.

Not tedious, but more demanding than you average zelda game. And the bombers notebook is a genious game mechanic, still not emulated or bettered.

It sounds tedious and it should be, but it's not. In most cases, once you complete a quest and accomplish a goal you'll never have to revisit that quest again when you reset the timeline. So it's still a matter of working on one quest at a time. You're not actually doing the same thing over and over and over.
My favorite thing about the game was seeing just how alive the town really was. It's not just the same people walking from point A to point B and back to point A. As the moon gets closer to destroying the town people change what they say and do. Even after 10 years I'd say that Clock Town is probably the most vibrant and truly alive city I've ever seen in gaming.
Legend of Zelda (NES) -- Of course.
Legend of Zelda: The Adventures of Link (NES) -- Ditto.
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (GB) -- Yes.
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) -- Definitely.
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (GB) -- Yup.
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (GB) -- Nope. (Here's where things go downhill.)
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) -- Never.
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64) -- Not even close.
Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (GBA) -- Uh-uh.
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (GC) -- Nyet.
Legend of Zelda: Four Swords (GC) -- Never even played it.
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii) -- Waggle me a "No."
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS) -- Not even my namesake, nope!
As incredible as the switch from 2D to 3D was, my interest dropped off entirely then and there. There was something so sublime about Link to the Past that all other Zelda games never even came close to capturing my attention as much as IT did. I fully give the series its due credit. The videogame industry would not be where it is today without it, but after a while I just couldn't stay interested...
THAT BEING SAID... I downloaded Majora today. I don't even think I got to the Swamp the first and only time I attempted to play it. I think it came out around the same time as Ogre Battle 64 and there was absolutely NO CONTEST between the two for me. I devoted all my time to OB and let MM slip away without really missing anything. Plus, N64 has ALWAYS been my LEAST favorite Nintendo system. Majora simply had too many things stacked against it. THIS TIME though, I started playing it and --BAM-- immediate rekindling of the spirit of Zelda I last saw with Link's Awakening!
Maybe it's the side-story aspect. Maybe it's the darker theme. Maybe it's the concept of the Masks. Dunno, but I have a really good feeling about it this time. It also doesn't hurt that the game has held up INCREDIBLY WELL. No "vaseline over my cornea" effects like sooo many other N64 games. No rough edges. Solid textures, polygons and graphical effects. I absolutley DO NOT REMEMBER the game looking this good the first time around. Did Nintendo do something to the emulation?!
I will try to post as I attempt to play more into it. We'll see if this game has what it takes (or not) to keep me interested. Somehow, I think this is going to be $10 well spent.

The vaseline is gone because the emulation on Wii gets rid of that bad effect on all N64 games. I forgot how many masks there are. Lots and lots. The bunny one was my fave.
The side quests ARE the main game if you ask me. Termina becomes this intricate living breathing world. I love sections like that. In the Wind Waker Windmill Island was my favourite area. I like towns where you can mess around and interact.
I have finished all 13 Legend of Zelda games released on Nintendo systems.

I finished them all, most more than once.

The easiest and shortest (they cut two dungeons to get it out early).

At least it kept my interest all the way to the end, unlike all other Zelda games that became boring halfway through. Longer and harder doesn't mean better.
