had my first couple of hours with the game.  i did a couple of simple collection quests.

game is like a huge book which you know has great depth but starts off very slow and deliberate and not so much fun.  hope i will find the patience to persevere.

i also hate the in game text.  fair enough i have a shitty telly but the text is blurry and nigh illegible.  i have had to sit two yards closer than i normally do just to be able to read the bloody text.

Persevere! The first few resource gathering/village restoring quests are necessary, but once you get by all that and you can grow your own resources and start forging better equipment (and the hunts get to be more involved), the game REALLY gets to be addicting!

For those who are playing the game online, are you playing with or without Wii Speak?  I came into a bit of money and now I'm debating picking up the game, but I'm weighing the Wii Speak option and if I need it or not.

I've yet to be able to play online with anyone!

I don't have Wii Speak at the moment, but would be willing to get it if online questing was too hard to accomplish w/out it!

Hmmmmm.  To me from the demo it seemed like communication would be a key component to being successful.  Or at least it'd make you that much more effective as a team.  Well either way I'm finally going to pick it up tonight. Gots to make the monsters my bitches!

i went online yesterday right quick just to check it works.  went into the town and saw the nice intro movie but that's as far as i went.  i have wii speak but i kind of hate it.  i wish nintendo had made an ordinary headset instead of a stupid conference mic.

there's so much to learn in this game.  i'm overwhelmed.  think i have to check that beginner's guide gg helpfully posted in the red steel 2 thread

So tempted by this. I turned on the Wii for the first time in a couple of weeks and saw that the Nintendo channel is stuffed to the brim with MH3 videos.

I watched the launch trailer, the diary of a guy going out on two hunts and the tutorial video. Then there were about 7 world of Monster hunter videos which I would have watched if my connection hadn't crapped out. The videos showed the traps being used, it's not all hack and slash. Also the diary video showed how equipping the right gear made the battles managable.

I even went into a game store today and would have got it, if it wasn't priced at £38 in store.

I think if I can resist, I will get this at £20. If I can't I may end up getting it in the next couple of weeks. I might finish reading that IGN guide thing past page 1.

Monster Hunter Tri has already sold twice as much as the previous-most popular home console MH game.

At 1.21 million it's almost twice that of Monster Hunter 2 PS2 sales and closing in on Monster Hunter Freedom PSP sales.

£38 just for the game is a lot I think.  I paid just slightly more for the classic pro box.  You can find it online for £30 and should be coming to £25 before long I think.

It looks so much fun online, looked like a PSO boss fight. Get online. Do you get separate missions from the single player game for online?

Sadly I'll have to get this game later then I had hoped, I had to buy a new mic for my 360 and a new controller as well as my original one has finally worn out a bit and the analog sticks are getting a little bit wonky. Also Lost Planet 2 is coming out in less then two weeks and that's a game I HAVE to get asap.

Yeah sorry about that. I've watched the video reviews for this game and it looks great and I am really looking forward to getting it soon but I had to make some tough decisions.

I picked up my copy last night and I have had an endless stream of success.  So far I have slayed some little velociraptor thingies, mined for iron ore, fed a lusty island boy a thick hunk of meat, and killed a goat. Later today I shall adventure into the ocean for the first time and get pounded hard by its salty currents.

Anyway good time so far even though I've only played about about 90 minutes. Later today I'll devote some more time to it, but unfortunately I've got some office work to attend to.

Got the Switch Axe a night or two ago and took some time off to play Super Street Fighter 4.

Today, just been kicking around, gathering resources to build the Honey stores on the Farm, looking for a new set of armor that suits my playing style.

I wandered out into the field to gather some odds and ends, stopped to bar-b-que some meat and was ambushed by TWO Great Jaggis at once! Wheee!

I could be mistaken, but I SWEAR it looked like one of the Great Jaggis ATE the body of a killed Jaggi for stamina...!?

I'm not sure of that, but it certainly LOOKED like it!

You may be right. I thought I saw him do it in the demo...

Hey, you didn't work hard enough on that sentence, robio. For instance, mining for iron ore should have been plumbing the depths.

Game sounds interesting, I'm not sure if/when I'll get it myself. Don't really have the time for any big time sinks right now. So I guess for big online (wii) games its animal crossing and this.

I don't have time for a big time-sink myself, but I'll admit the way the game is set up it does allow for short bursts of play.  None of the missions I've been on seemed to take more than about 20 minutes.  So it's pretty easy to manage length. . . and girth.

And here I am saying I don't have time to spend on games but I spent 10 minutes trying to find a good rimshot link.

Now we need an anus thread too.
Of course if the site had been named properly, that wouldn't be a problem.

I did my first online mission today.  I was feeling pretty cocky since I had just graduated into the 2nd tier missions and had what I thought was a slick light bowgun and good armor.  I thought I was going to be the fucking man, and decided it was time to show off.

So after fooling around with everything for a few minutes I managed to get a group of 3 together and we chose a mission where you kill 4 Great Jaggis.  One guy dropped off so it was actually just me and this one other guy, and thank god he came along. He was a freaking badass.  Pretty much did the whole thing on his own.  I died one time and I don't think he ever came close.  He was just running around slashing shit up while I kind of just hung around with my pee-shooter.  It put things in perspective for me.

But it truly was awesome. Got to get Wii-Speak for it I think.  It wasn't necessary, but it would have helped. If you haven't gone online yet do it.  The loot was TREMENDOUS. Best stuff I'd gotten in the game so far. I'm going to get practicing a little more off line before I go back in though.
