Bummer if thats true. The settlers would have made for a great chance at interesting sidequests, betrayal and loyalty shit.

You can walk if you want. I'll fly about in my mech, or drive about in my motorbike mech or armoured vehicle mech.

You can also super speed run normally as your character in XCX.
