Super Mario 3D World - impressions, Kotaku
Lately, if people ask if they need to get a Wii U, I tell them that it's a good system but not a must-have. I may well be singing a different tune after this game's out. It's really impressive.

When things click in Wonderful 101 the game goes from being simply great to being SUBLIME!
I put the game down for about a week because I got kinda stuck at one particular Boss Battle, which I'll refer to as: "The Tower Defense." You have to protect and repair a Tower, while fighting an enemy the size of a couple of skyscrapers, while fending off smaller minions, while interacting with the Air Strike team and Commandos. The larger enemy is throwing all sorts of various attacks at you and you have to Unite Morph often to Counter...
I couldn't handle everything on the screen at once at first and got a little frustrated. Today, I sat down again and got into some kind of flow. I started recognizing when he was going to attack, when he was roaring in frustration and I learned how to do some MAJOR DAMAGE attacks against him by following the cues given to me by my Team. Everything just clicked and the Battle got INTENSE, but I finally beat him! There were even some cues I couldn't figure out that they were giving me, but it turns out, I didn't NEED to use them; the game gives you enough freedom to approach enemies with multiple strategies! So. Damn! Awesome!
I beat him, then I decided to fight him AGAIN just for the sake of extra experience and o-parts **currency!** ... What was once FRUSTRATING turned into GREAT FUN! This game is a one of a kind MASTERPIECE!!
_____________
Nearly forgot to mention: Most Boss Battles end with some kind of QTE's... They don't detract from the game in the least! One of them at the end of this particular battle had a BLATANT reference to Bayonetta contained in it! So FRIGGIN' great!!
_____________
It's only Ubisoft games, people. Who cares if the Wii U doesn't get them?

That's enough Blighttown for today. Fucking shithole. At least I got the iaito, which will replace my uchi for this DEX build.
65+ hours in GTAV and still got a ways to go.
Pathetic! There is nothing to argue about it, you lost. Deal with it, instead of acting like a whiny little bitch.
Agreed
My two week vacation put a dent in my game time, then GTAV has taken precedence. So I don't really remember the last thing I did. I am about 7 hours into it, maybe a little more.
Yeah the public response to the series has transformed over time. I think it's currently at "What's wrong with you if you have not beaten D Souls."
Shocking that you would come on here and say something like this.
Hey let pull out the fanboy card. But oh wait I do not even have a Wii-U because I think it is shit right now. So quite your pathetic bitching.
Hey go jerk off to Ultimate Fighting.
Will do on frigay!
I see, gotcha.
I wanted to make the distinction between Ubisoft publically making such statements like Capcom and EA have in the past. Even if Ubisoft did cut off support post Christmas they have been actually very supportive of Wii U. Initially we only had Zombi U and Rayman confirmed. They delayed Rayman but then added U versions of Splinter Cell Blacklist, Assasins Creed 4 and Watchdogs. Apart from Warner Bros it's hard to find a third party publisher more supportive of the system. So I would cut them some slack. For me, from E3 interviews and the Crew and Division announcements it was obvious that they were going to analyse Christmas sales early next year.
The hell is going on?

Looks like Wii U's second big update of the year is coming tommorow.
"From what I hear there is a firmware update for Wii U this week. Most likely Monday. I don't know everything in update so don't overhype it."
Emily Rodgers said
And the eshops are down for massive maintenance today. Add that together with the sudden New Nintendo Direct happening tommorow and it's highly likely we are getting a new update. I hope this update allows us to play wii games on the U gamepad screen for games like DKCR, NSMB, Metroid Other M, basically any game that doesn't require IR or intensive motion.
From the Edge article on Mario 64s' hub world
"Nintendo sent us this rare piece of Super Mario 64 art – it’s actually the background image from the packshot in full. There’s more than a hint of Galaxy here, though it was created in 1996."
Interesting to read as it puts into perspective Nintendo's controller obsession:
Iwata says, ”I’m frankly pretty surprised at the number of changes we’ve made to this controller [laughs]. I think that it really contains a lot of the DNA of Nintendo, if you will. And I think that Nintendo puts a lot more emphasis and uses the controller more than any of the other companies.”
Other stuff in the link
Man, I wish Stephen Fry narrated Dragon's Crown.
Also, I chose the fighter just because it said it was for noobs. But it seems a lot simpler than Odin Sphere so far so that was a bad choice. I can kinda waltz through a dungeon and the AI just kills everything. How does the character changing work, Leo? Also, dat fucking male necks.
Hey GG, how are you liking your tablet computer now you've got some time to accustom to it? Have you been using the digitizer in any meaningfull way?
My Crysis 2 review is up
http://thevgpress.com/#!/reviews/crysis-2-you-cry-and-then-you-cry-again_425.html
What's the digitiser?
I love the freedom with it and the super mega long battery life. I don't like the small HDD, even with a 64gb version half of that is already taken by the OS and even expanding with an SD card can leave you short. It could also do with a bit more power CPU wise to make some things faster but in general you trade that away for more power efficient and cooler chips.
Windows 8 with touch is pretty great with a few quirks but there is also a desktop mode which is like normal windows. I'm happy with it but I'm facing the usual compatibility problems when upgrading to a new Windows OS. If you are looking at Surface tablets remember that the Pro version doesn't come with MS Word or office and that you have to pay 80-100 Euros for the package or do without.
EDIT:
One of the best uses is being able to use gyros to flip the display anyway you want. For picture viewing, web browsing or comic reading putting the screen vertically is a major part of making things great.
the digitizer is the technology that allows you to use the pressure sensitive pen. It'd be of great use to me, but if there's no software that supports it, it's useless.
Yeah, I know that the Pro's don't come with office. I'd try to install my office 2010 on it, and if that fails I'd have to get me a new copy. No way I'm going to pay a monthly fee for it though.
Most programs I own allow you to install it on 2 devices, so I'm going to install them on the pro. Worst thing that could happen is that they don't show up on the Metro front, right?
Funny read on the Nintendo controllers. The way some of them blow their own horn like they are so far ahead of everyone else is comical. You guys make more mistakes with your controllers over the years than you do anything else.
The Gamecube pad not having a d-pad? That would have been horrible. 4 extra buttons right there, and even with the d-pad it still didn't have as many buttons as the PS2 or Xbox pads. That would have made it hard to switch beams in Metroid Prime.
