Wired.com: How is the team set up? How many people from Nintendo, how many from Team Ninja?

Sakamoto: As for me personally, the role that I’ve taken on is producer. Also on Nintendo’s side are three other key people who have experienced development on the handheld Metroid games. One gentleman was responsible for designing the maps, another gentleman was actually a designer, so he’s more experienced in developing the visuals of the game, and then we’ve also got one gentleman who was a programmer on the handheld games, and he’s doing more project management.

Hayashi: From the Team Ninja side, there are various programmers and computer graphics designers totaling about 70 people. And then, as we mentioned before, the story element of the game is very significant, and we’ve got a team from a company called D-Rockets, who is also part of Project M, working on the cinematics, and a gentleman by the name of Ryuji Kitaura. So we’ve got about 100 people working on this project.

 And about Hayashi from Team Ninja

Hayashi: I feel it’s my responsibility to not only meet and exceed the desires and hopes of the existing Metroid series fans, but also to even just have one more player play. As part of that, I feel it’s also my responsibility to bring up new suggestions, new ideas, new concepts that maybe Mr. Sakamoto hasn’t had, hadn’t thought of. That would be my major contribution.

Hayashi: It’s not our goal to make a Team Ninja version of Metroid. We’re working as part of this larger group, and so as Mr. Sakamoto said earlier, it’s our goal not just to make a game that appeals to Metroid fans or fans of Team Ninja games. It should be a game for everyone.

Hayashi: I think within the entire Nintendo universe, that I have a responsibility to make Metroid the most beautiful, not only in terms of its graphics but also its game design. So my approach is one that — given that my understanding of the Metroid universe is being this beautiful experience — my responsibility is to stay true to that

I mean if you can't trust Sakamoto, who was involved with all the 2D Metroids and even Kid Icarus, who the hell can you trust? Even Hayashi who made both Sigma games knows what he is doing.

I'm not a huge fan of NSMB Wii, but I'd never call it lazy or poorly made. In fact the level of thought that has gone into the design and production is very high. I could criticise the idea of themed levels and difficulty but to call it lazy or to say that people are blinded by Mario is ridiculous.

That's un-possible! If it were Natal the game would have to be made two ways to support a standard controller. And we're not talking waggle replacing button presses.

I love the last point Grammaton made that Nintendo probably would love to kill off its major franchise and only focus on wii games, that why should Nintendo ever make another Mario game like Galaxy when they can make more money with NSMB.  Meanwhile Nintendo's upcoming release schedule has Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Other M, a new Zelda in the works, and Pikmin 3 somewhere.
