Hello peeps! I have returned... again.  How've you all been? Grand slam tennis out in the UK 2mo XD Who's grabbing/got a copy?

I am thinking of buying Tiger Woods.

tiger woods seems to be getting universally positive reviews.  my only problem is a complete lack of interest in golf.  i thought i was sure to get grand slam tennis (or the other tennis game) so i could get my hands on the motion plus thingy but the mixed reviews are making me more hesitant.  i may wait until sports resort which i'll definitely get for the jet-ski.

Don't let that put you off. I couldn't care less about golf but I've always found golf games to be strangely addictive ever since playing Tiger Woods golf '97 on PC or whatever the hell it was called. They're golf, but nothing like golf and as such not boring .Nyaa

Maybe motion plus will make it too much like golf for you then and actually make the gameplay boring lol.

Frisbe golf sounds fun.

If your getting it too bugs then looks like I'm making 2 purchases tomorrow.  Expensive month for me -.-

Anyone planning on getting the Conduit too?

 LOL

Well, mini golf is fun, so it might just be like that on a larger scale! Woot. Grinning

I wont't be getting it for awhile if I do get it. I'm thinking of probably getting Valkyria Chronicles next or something else.

Yeah pretty slow sales all around on hardware except for the DS which is doing very well thanks to the DSi.

UFC surprised me a bit. By all accounts it is an excellent game but I wasn't expecting it to sell quite that well.

It's a shame Bionic Commando didn't make the top ten.

The Wii numbers are finally coming down to earth and could possibly force Nintendo to release new colours before the end of this year. They were making money off the system from day one so they must be making a killing off it these days.

Fixed that for you. I am not really worried for the Wii, the Motion Plus, Wii Sports Resort and New Super Mario Bros will give new life to the system. They need a new sofware impulse, most of the games released inn 2009 are niche games. The heavy hitters have yet to come.

I'm suprised to see Mario Kart is still selling that much.  I'll rant and rave till the cows come home about how good of a game it is but the game is over a year old now.  Not to mention there's been plenty of other decent games released since then.  Where's games like Halo Wars?  (I've not played it I'll admit but looks to be a great game)

Grand Slam Tennis day Grinning  I love Fridays

Man Bionic Commando is doing that slow sales?

Should have released it on Wii and called it Bionic Carnival.  300K first week sales easily

LOL

I wonder how Dark Void will fare for Capcom? It looks solid but is de-void of personality so far.

I guess I should get started on the updates.

EDIT:

Updates done Happy

That's a lot for post E3. So Natal is going to be a huge console like launch.

Playing Infamous right now and its definitely one of the best PS3 exclusives no doubt. But hasn't this been the way with PS3 exclusives though since day 1? Not selling even close to what they should be?

Multi-platform games have been doing better than the exclusives all along, which is why its kind of a joke that it seems people bought the PS3 for all the same games they could have gotten on 360, usually better.

Everything thats happened with that system has been such a disappointment compared to PS1 and PS2. Even the userbase is retarded.

Sounds like the cube days no?

UFC surprised me a bit. By all accounts it is an excellent game but I wasn't expecting it to sell quite that well.

It's a shame Bionic Commando didn't make the top ten.

The Wii numbers are finally coming down to earth and could possibly force Nintendo to cut the price before the end of this year. They were making money off the system from day one so they must be making a killing off it these days.

The whole industry is down 23%. Only the DS isn't slumping.

Wii is still a couple of thou away from selling more than the competition combined. There is no great platform specific problem, its the whole industry, much like Japan.

Thats something I've been wondering actually, I'm sure it will say in the manual how to hold it poperly.  Any ideas of the correct way though?  I'm imagining A + B buttons to be the flat sides of the raquet, am I right?

I've seen a million different people try to describe it. I wish someone would just take a pic.

That disc golf video is great, shows the 1:1 vs just normal Wii remote. There is a great Crystal Bearers interview I just got done reading too.

Virtua Tennis Gamesradar review

Extracts

It wasn’t the fault of the motion controls – they’re graceful, intuitive and by far the best of their kind on the Wii. It’s just that we just weren’t expecting something quite so subtle, nuanced and… well, fair. After thumping our arms around like an angry gorilla in so many other Wii titles, Virtua Tennis’ measured, often delicate racketing makes a startling, long-overdue change. There’s still a generous amount of arm-thumpage, but it’s mixed in with lighter, more dexterous maneuvers – you know, like real tennis.

9/10

After the PS3/360 versions got 7/10s across the board I wasn't expecting this. Now will this give Grand Slam Tennis a run for its money and get more 9 out of 10s? Very curious now. With the bundles having no price difference, you may as well pick the best tennis game and get the motionplus seperately.

The last paragraph of the review has me woefully confused:

"But the game’s biggest success is that even advanced moves are simple and intuitive for beginners. It’s not quite the control revolution the Wii promised for the sport – perhaps MotionPlus will see to that – but it’s a tie with Grand Slam Tennis as best thing so far."

Did they review this game WITHOUT motionplus?

I love the Motion Grudge match article at IGN. Nyaa

The MS guy just lays into everything else. The Nintendo guy is like pfft, you can buy Motionplus in stores right now. And the Sony guy is the only one who bothers to give a half decent analysis on things.

Sony Motion Controller

Chris Roper, IGN PlayStation Editor-In-Chief: While something along the lines of it had been rumored for some time, the unveiling of the PlayStation Motion Controller at this year's E3 still came as a pretty big surprise. While we only saw a bunch of tech demos for it and won't be seeing the controller hit stores until sometime in the spring, the tech looks pretty impressive.

The Motion Controller features colored lights on the end that the PlayStation Eye uses to calculate distance (and position for an overlaid video image in some demos that show you on-screen) and what we assume has to be accelerometers (or perhaps digital compasses) inside of it to determine angle and movement. The combination of video input with its internal gadgetry makes for one-to-one motion feedback. So rather than having to perform gestures to make things happen on-screen like you generally do with the Wii Remote, whatever motions you make or positions you hold the controller in are perfectly mimicked in whatever you're playing.

The result is that you can do things like accurately wield a sword and shield and use them in realtime, exactly as your motions input, and see the results in the game as you're doing them. So you can use the shield to accurately block incoming fire, or have the sword perfectly simulate whatever swipes you're doing in the real world. That's a far cry from the likes of what we've seen in most motion controlled games to date.

Nintendo obviously has the Wii Remote and Wii MotionPlus that essentially do the same thing that the PlayStation Motion Controller does, though while the MotionPlus add-on brings it much closer, the PlayStation Motion Controller still looks to be more accurate than Nintendo's offerings. One added benefit is that you're able to wield two Motion Controllers and have accurate input with both of them, whereas with the Wii, you generally have the Nunchuck in one of your hands which doesn't offer nearly the same level of accuracy.

The main thing that Nintendo has going for it in this match-up is that its solutions are readily available. The Wii Remote isn't just an add-on, it's the main controller for the system and has been that way since launch. So, everyone with a Wii has one. The MotionPlus add-on is new, but Nintendo seems to be pushing its adoption very heavily so its pick-up rate should be pretty high. Over on Microsoft's side, it announced the Natal at E3. My assumption is that the PlayStation Motion Controller's demo was tagged as a "maybe" for the conference, depending on what Microsoft announced, and Sony gave it the green light after Microsoft unveiled the Natal.

While it looks like the Natal could offer up some cool uses (see the Milo demo), the lack of anything solid to hold is a drawback in my opinion as you don't have a point of reference. Sure, you can hold any object in your hands to make up for this (like a plastic wheel for racing games), but not having solid buttons to hit seems like it'll feel like something is missing.

While the Milo demo was certainly slick, it's nothing that can't be done with the PlayStation Eye as-is, and in fact there were a number of PlayStation 2 games using the EyeToy that did the same stuff, albeit at a lesser accuracy level. The PlayStation Eye might not be able to read depth at quite the same level, but the camera can certainly recognize shapes, and its built-in mic means you can easily do the voice recognition stuff. And Sony has already shown that the camera's feed is good enough to recognize faces in a tech demo at this year's GDC.

One big thing that the Natal will never be able to do is pick up subtle hand movements, such as the twist of a wrist, like the PlayStation Motion Controller can (and Wii MotionPlus for that matter). For things like accurate use of swords or tennis rackets, this is a very necessary thing.

It remains to be seen how well Sony will make use of the Motion Controller in games, but for my money, the combination of two Motion Controllers and the PlayStation Eye looks to offer better response and more interactivity than anything either Nintendo or Microsoft can offer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The only point he missed was that you could hold two wii remotes with two motionplus units, which is the same as having two PS3 ball-on-sticks and an Eyetoy cam. Although what then happens to the analogue stick?

Those new Dragon Quest IX screens look pretty nice.  After the epic that was DQ VIII I would have prefered this one on a real console, but I'll give SE credit where it's due. They are squeezing every drop of power out of the DS for this game.  DQM: Joker looked decent but they're pushing it even harder.  Should be good.

And just as I suspected, Bionic Commando is tanking.  Reviews were just too mixed, and there were already some strong title out at the same time with UFC and Infamous that it couldn't compete with.  Should have put it on the Wii.  I think old NES fans would have been a little more likely to pick it up had it been on that system just based on nostalgia.  Maybe not great sales but probably would have broken 100K.

UFC topped the charts over here too. I have no idea why. The games have been around for ages and have never been hugely popular.

Ouch! Well that's a damn shame about Bionic Commando. It wasn't perfect but I found it to be an excellent game and very fun experience all the same. I felt Grin did a fantastic job bringing the 2D classic to the 3D realm. While a sequel looks very unlikely now I am happy that the game did get made and is now a part of my gaming collection.

yeah i realised that yesterday when Kaepora was talking about getting it.  i thought it was coming out today along with the tennis but i was wrong.

i could end up spending up to £100 on wii games this month if i got all the ones that tempt me (EA tennis + wmp, donkey kong jungle beat, klonoa etc) but i think i will save all of that towards the ps3 which will be my next purchase.  i've waited long enough to play street fighter IV
