I'm going to try to keep my posting about STEAM to a minimum because, frankly, I don't think any of you will ever buy it... I will post about it here and there, every once in a while, but I won't make an |OT| or anything like that just because the energy I spend on it probably will be mostly for naught. That being said: I just got by the TUTORIAL Chapter a few minutes ago after playing last night and this morning, having died and failed several times --AND-- I just died a few steps away from the GOAL in the first stage of Chapter One. This is a NINTENDO game... How many games of their's can you honestly say have THAT level of difficulty? Intelligent Systems is as good as they've ever been; it's a shame to see a reception to one of their games like we've seen with this one.
The Pilot Who Drew This Giant Dick in the Sky Is the Hero We Deserve
** ...and by "We" the article actually means us. **
Please don't hold back if you don't want to. I'm very interested in the game. Not able to purchase anything new for a while now that my eShop credit is drained (I really should have passed up Tipping Stars), but this one is one my list for later this year. 100% right up my alley.
Possibly a leak from Street Fighter V??
A penis in the sky huh? Well, it looks like there's finally something to do in Lakeland other than world's saddest Legoland theme park.
I enjoy reading all your posts even if I don't comment on them. And yeah I will never buy this game.
My crazy brother lives in Lakeland. I've been there, yeah not much going on.
So who here is ready for FFXV!
I'm thinking new IP: Pilotwangs!
That's really too bad, as the X-Com vibe is strong with this one. The Steam points each character has are like action points, conserving these Steam points is critical in setting up Overwatch attacks should an enemy wander into your view on their turn. Very X-Com like there. You need to take into account each of your team members weapons, as sometimes a long and wide range grenade attack is necessary to take out environmental objects and enemies at once --versus-- times when a Steam Rifle is better for it's precision in close quarters and ability to pull off the Overwatch attack the grenade can't. Sometimes it's better to split up and have one of your team members get a higher vantage point of the battlefield so you can see the enemies movements. Sometimes it's better to stay together and defend each other. There hasn't been one battle where positioning and wise use of the differing weapons hasn't come into play yet; it's a smart game... and, yes, I am still on Chapter One.
The cast of characters is strange, to be certain, and I'm not going to give them all away... Having the Lion from the Wizard of Oz on your team seems stupid at first... then you realize he can leap onto enemies and into areas other team members cannot... and he has a super-precise Crossbow that deals greater damage to enemies weak-points then the Steam Rifles do... and suddenly he's not as superfluous as you first thought! The other team members you gain just get crazier and crazier, but now I can't wait to see their functions cause they just aren't going to be what you think. Awesome!
The whole Comic Book setting of the game belies the actual challenge and ingenuity it actually offers.
I've never played a Warriors title before & I had no idea what to expect from this game but I'm liking the style quite a bit, & the Zelda goodness is through the roof. Its kind of like Zelda's tribute game. Like Smash Bros but with fun gameplay.
Must play more!
Leo, STEAM question: Do you think that the American references could get grating for us Europeans? I mean, how well known are the characters, and how in your face stereotypically American is the game overall?
It's got beer, guns and Eagles!
Well yeah, every self-respecting game needs to contain at least 2 out of those 3
It's really not as 'MERICAN as people believe. It's as gung-ho as the average comic book. If you can take them, the game shouldn't be grating at all. It even starts off in London defending the Queen.
The characters are mostly American literary figures: Tom Sawyer, John Henry, Henry Fleming, among others, and a character(s) from The Wizard of Oz... The characters barely even mention their stories of origin. To be honest, though I know all the names, I've forgotten their stories for the most part too. They boil down to characters in a strategy game; sometimes the race or backgrounds of the characters influence their sub-weapons or strengths, but you can still switch up their arsenals anyway. The Lion pounces, John Henry has a "Bear" grenade gun... The characters just provide excuses for diversification of their weaponry, but that's about it... No fore-knowledge of their stories is necessary at all. You'll probably know more about them than you think, but considering this game as made by a Japanese developer, it's pretty multi-national friendly...
Yes! Another has seen the light!
My body is ready....
....but my wallet is not.
