I actually havent read much of anything about King so I have no clue personally. I do know is writtings have been the inspiration for a ton of amazing movies. I cannot think of another author that even comes close to having so many different stories of his put on screen, and great ones. The Shining, Shawshank, Green Mile, The Mist, Carrie, The Stand, The Dead Zone, and much more. Plus I have heard nothing but great things about The Dark Tower series. I have never heard other wise so its new to me, I believe you I just never heard anything bad about him.

OMG did you just say LOTR movies are not classics. They will be forever mentioned in the same sentence as the original Star Wars trilogy as greatest trilogies of all time. It will forever be one of the greatest movie collections of all time.

Fair enough. And like I said I agree. I like a lot of films based on his stuff.

There are a lot of films that were considered classics at the time and were expected to be talked about in the years to come that are now completely forgotten about or actually derided. But yeah, I should have said masterpieces given that classic has more connotations about the general opinion of them. They are classics, but they're not masterpieces. All fixed. Nyaa

So hey. Mass Effect 2. Mrs Aspro just finished it. She did everything she could nithe game of course.

The deal is, she saved her entire party except for Jack (for whom she had built up great affinity in-game).

Is is possible to save the entire team? Or do they kill off at least one for the cutscene to work and for dramatic impact?

(I, of course, killed everyone in my team).

Sure, it's possible. I saved them all on my renegade playthrough. Still waiting on finishing that one on ME3. In my paragon one I lost Mordin, that's the one I finished up with on ME3.

Okay. I wonder what she screwed up. She is considering replaying the last few hours to see what she can do differently.

I've heard that the show really kicks it up a notch in season 2 and gets really good. I think the first season really sets it up all as a character study instead of a show held together with a continuous storyline, which I think it needs (and possibly gets if I've been told correctly).

I would sit yourself down and watch at least one more episode though. The 6th episode was really good and exactly where I started to "get it."

I have no idea who that chick is or that she was in this show which I've also never heard of? May have to watch it now....I have a thing for hot redheads.

I fall in the camp which really enjoyed Alan Wake (I think I may have written a review of it if I'm not mistaken).  Including the story.  It's pulp, but it's fun.  Much like Stephen King's writing ... that's why I find that debate slightly amusing.  I wish Remedy would make more games.  I wish they'd made Max Payne 3, so that it had a noir vibe to it, like the first two, not the sun-drenched look it's been given instead.

Haven't played much of anything this weekend.  Mostly been watching olympic sport.  Tried to get into Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia.  Started it from the beginning, but I don't think I got very far with it first go around.  It's really hard.  Hardest of all the GBA/DS vanias I have played (ie all of the previous 5).  But it's really good, and given my pretty slim choice of things to play at present, I may stick with it.

Well she is just about reason enough to watch (provided you catch one of those episodes where she gets more than about 3 minutes of face time). The show isn't something I'd just recommend to anyone though. But if you're the type of guy that misses an the bygone era of when every man wore a suit, women drank while they were pregnant, everyone smoked, and the highest compliment a man could pay a woman was a good slap on the ass then you just might appreciate it.

I haven't got it yet.  I am pretty sure I will get it, and fairly sure I will enjoy it but I will wait for it to come down in price.  Or if there are to be DLC packs then I will wait to get a complete edition.

I couldn't help but feel disappointed that Rock* didn't let Remedy make the game, because I really like Remedy's style (with the first to MPs and AW) but I trust it's still a decent game at the very least

Anyone notice the Lord of the Rings like imagery in the opening ceremony? That's because Tolkien lived through this rural to industrial phase and the first world war in the trenches. It was said that Lord of Rings reflected this, the hobbits being the rural english life, then the industrial revolution, pits of fire, weapon making, ripping up trees for industry etc is reflected in the orcs and sauron, black towers etc. It's a famous period in British history called the Industrial Revolution.

Then the relationship between sam and frodo reflects the relationship he had as an officer with his subordinate in the trenches of world war 1. The upper class were usually officers and they were given a best buddy subordinate from the working classes and their friendship transcended the class system. That's why Sam is something of the hero near the end.

I have read some critisim of his, it seems like more snobby hardcore literature critics hate his work, whatever. What I do know is that a ton of people love his work, yes I know popularity doesn't equal quality. I do know that many of his stories (I dont know about his writing cause I havent read King) are great, stuff that have to be considered classics, if not for the book then for the adaptations. And he has won a bunch of critical awards as well. Yeah there a bunch of guys that think King's writing sucks and I bet all of them wish they could be him.

You have to put each character in the right roles and of course keep them alive if they are doing one of the key roles. I also think there is some randomness to it so replaying it may fix it.

Yeah it is. It got the same funny TV shows and cheesy dailog. Its not as linear in that there are slightly more open areas to explore and of course Wake doesnt jump around while shooting. You can clearly see the same some Max Payne coming through. I much rather play this though cause Max Payne was non stop repetition, at least this has moments of down time where you can explore a bit and there seems to be some enemy variety.

I have read a good number of King books, and fortunately I am both blissfully ignorant about the opinion of critics about him as well as unable to perform a critical deconstruction of his works on my own, so I have enjoyed them, both in my own language as well as the original. One thing I do know, though, is that no matter what we like, there's always bound to be someone, somewhere that thinks or considers that very thing we like is shit. No use worrying about it. I just let others worry about the pursuing of higher standards of entertainment, I take what life sends my way and either enjoy it or not.
