If true. WTF Anonymous.  What has Square done to you?  Not enough Kingdom Hearts games?  Now they really do look like nothing but tools.

"Notorious hacker group Anonymous has been accused of being behind an online assault on Thursday that brought down both the Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Eidos websites.

Krebonsecurity reports that both sites temporarily displayed an erroneous banner reading "Owned by Chippy1337" and were then downed for several hours. The unfolding of the plan can be read in copies of the hacker's online chat.

In this same conversation they claim to have obtained information from at least 80,000 registered users of the sites and that they plan to share it online."

All the Portal 2 reviews should be in by now, so here is where it has ended up in all-time metacritic scores: (incidentally, I note some western bias -- top 11 all western games -- but then Meta only uses english speaking publications no?)

Also, all of these titles use guns (except Oblivion and you could argue Portal 2).  So the industry seems to have mastered the whole "shooting things" genre.

Upvote him until he reaches 777.  He shall be holy then, and guide us to the promised land.

Still not convinced? For the first time in a Resi game you can actually move and shoot - and no, we don't count Survivor. The improvements being made to the established Resi 4 principles say plenty about Capcom's intentions: they're making the best game they can for the 3DS.


"That's something we realised when we were creating the game," says Kawata. "This is a much more fast-paced, action-focused Resident Evil, and by allowing the user to move while they're shooting, while they're reloading, while they're healing - it just brings the pace of the game up, and the excitement as well."


They're not just treating this as a crisply muscled space-filler before Revelations (eventually) arrives.


Any troubled Resi traditionalists about to eBay their Ganado dioramas can stop worrying. If you prefer the pant-bothering fumble-fest of previous titles the option is still there, but it's been genetically modified to make best use of the 3DS.

You can now switch to a first-person mode that drags you into the action, tightening the over-the-shoulder aiming camera and emphasising the 3D effects. No moving and shooting, and there's the added bonus of actually feeling that fetid Majini breath. Lovely.


So it's revolutionising the way Resident Evil is played and it looks astounding. 'What else has it got?' you shout greedily. How about a tailored set of skills that lets you customise each character and play them the way you want? Oh, go on then.


If, like us, you've always felt that Umbrella's increasingly English bad lad Wesker would look cooler if he could blam lightning from his fists, then

you're in for a crackling treat. The Thunderbolt skill can be attached to any melee attack, adding waves of bright blue electricity to your close-quarter moves.



The reload skill is more self-explanatory, but it's a must for anyone less keen on swapping juices with infested enemies. You're able to pick three of the 30 available skills at once, and each one can be upgraded with prolonged use. Think of it as learning, but with less boredom and more roundhouses.


How does all of this translate to measurable liquid enjoyment? Very well, actually. Anyone who's spent time in the company of Resi after the fourth game will be able to pick up Mercenaries and start shooting out knees and popping heads without a moment's hesitation.


For those unfamiliar with the setting, a barrel-blasting tutorial will guide fresh recruits through the basics - faithful red oil drum, you give so much and ask little in return. That's right, we talk to barrels now.


PISTOL-PACKING PARTNERS

The new tricks certainly keep things exhilarating, but they don't disguise that at its mutated, pulsating heart, Mercenaries is little more than a high-score game.


Kawata is under no illusions: "At the core, that's what Mercenaries is - trying to get the highest score in the shortest time possible." This is where the improved co-op game becomes especially important. It's not just there so you can share the tentacle-kicking brutality with a loved one - teaming up vastly increases your chances of nailing a higher grade.


The massive combo attacks from previous instalments return, improved and more important than ever. Linking off a partner's attack gives you access to more flamboyant melee moves only available in co-op, many of which are so powerful that only bigger enemies will survive long enough for you to use them.



You'll be welcoming the sack-headed chainsaw Majini with a mug of tea, just so Krauser can dropkick his face off. Anyone with real friends can link up and play locally, but an internet connection will enable you to team up with anyone in the world.


The lack of voice chat is fixed by simple commands that cover everything you need to communicate in the game (and possibly real life) - 'come here', 'help me', 'pay me a compliment'. And if that isn't enough to get your Tyrant glands tingling, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D even includes a demo version of Revelations. Looks like finding a partner won't be so hard after all...

Okay just some random thoughts about some of the past posts and the news.

1. Sorry Vader, Mortal Kombat is the king of all fighters in the same way that King of Fighters is the king of all fighters. Despite that, this last installment was still a fine game.

2. That's a real surprise to have seen so many copies of Sonic COlors sold. Not too long ago there was a news article about how it failed to outsell Unleashed, so this is a nice surprise. I wonder if they're going to consider porting it now to the HD systems.

3. Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, who is buying Kinect? Stop that!

First of all, great news post GG.  This is the apology letter that Sony sent out to their publishers. If you read it you can see Sony still hasn't gotten it yet. This letter is very business-like, but doesn't really address the seriousness of what happened. They almost pass it off like it was just a simple inconvenience. The publishers' bottom lines are being affected here, and this doesn't even touch on that. This letter would have been fine during the first week of the outage, but now... this is almost dismissive. Their PR team is mind bogglingly bad.

Aspro made a thread in the gaming forum - Sony's E3 Press Conference - What'll They Do? - and I think we all agreed they needed to show humility during it. After looking at this, I'm fairly they won't be going in that direction. In fact I'll go ahead and make a prediction now. Sony will get boo'ed during their presentation. If you thought the moment they showed off the Sixaxis was awkward, just wait until their show this year.

Depends on who you believe. A few interviews were put out recently after the PSN attack and a couple members have stated that while there is not a leader there is a council that makes decisions on what targets or sites to attack.
