Calling BS on that. There are no such things as members either. I can now proclaim that I am Anonymous, you can do the same. You can attack PSN while I claim I did not do it. So which one is Anonymous? Both? None? Heck we can start working together and make councils and stuff and call ourselves Anonymous. Anonymous does not exist, it is just an idea that started as a joke. They are an easy scape goat.
How is it that I can download a FIFA update? Mind blown.
Can't avoid updates even when PSN is down! 21st century living.
Oh shoot, I forgot to mention Wind Waker 3DS screens. Damn, this game looks ggrrrrrrreat in 3D. I think that games which have sharply defined edges look better in 3D. Especially the 3D grass. For some reason grass looks great in 3D.
Even 2D pixel grass, place on a 3D mesh map is shown in 3D. That is also part of the reason Xenoblade's fields look so great in 3D.
Monster Hunter 3DS screens were pretty blurry because of the soft lighting effect it uses.
Metroid Other M looks pretty special in 3D, especially the close up Samus models.
Smash Bros Twilight Princess levels show you what a better looking TP would look like in 3D. You know that bridge where the guy on a pig attacks you? In one of the screens you can see the depth of the bridge going all the way back and the mountains peaking in the background.
I'll agree that they are an easy scape goat, and likely get blameor credited for things that had nothing to do with them. But I still think there's enough evidence out there between IRC chat logs and a public announcements that shows there is some loosely organized group doing cyber attacks. Though I doubt it's as large as it's been portrayed and most "members" aren't responsible for more than hacking a GeoCities page.
Nintendo Europe are asking people to vote on what alternative cover art they want on the Xenoblade box.
I think this is good.
So why is it always the Russians attacking the USA? The cold war has ended ages ago and it is the good old US of A that is doing the attacking other countries thing. Do the Russians make games where you have to have to fend of an attack of Nato? Do Polish make games that have you uprising against the Soviet empire? Why is everything in America so natiolistic and warlike? Not just games, but also movies and other media. Polish make awesome stuff Like the Witcher. Ukranians make S.t.a.l.k.e.r. Shadow of Chernobyl and the soon to be announced sequel Shadow of Fukushima (too soon?) and Metro 2033 is also made by a Ukraine developer.
American 'dudebro' games seem to be so juvenile comparison. Am I wrong?
I don't know much about Russian games, but I did have a friend who grew up in Soviet Russia in the 80's before the cold war ended (or was ending). We were talking about childhood cartoons, and the only one she could remember was about a witch dressed up in red, white, and blue that was trying to steal the Olympics. Not exactly Tex Avery, but I'm sure it was good.
C'mon these blockbuster games are like blockbuster movies, of course the US would be in peril and it will be a nationlistic game. What else would it be? They have to pick an enemy too and its either aliens or a real world country and movie and gamer makers will always go with old enemies and all that.
I once saw a documentary about the propaganda the US made about Russians and the propaganda the USSR made. The propaganda in the US was based about fear, they have had the red scare back then. In the Soviet union, they just ignored everything. Even back then the US had fear mongering in their media.
I did specifically mention movies in my original post. And what else could it be? It could be like Hong Kong cinema, where a cop shoots everything in sight. It could be set in a fantasy world, it could be many things. Why has the movie be about the US anyways. Lord of the Ring was not and it did pretty well in the box office. Why must American movie have these stupid flag waving BS? It is not clever it is just nationalistic propaganda. Serbian movies for instance are always very cynical with black, black humour. If Sebia would make a movie about flag waving, there would be an outrage. Yet when America does it, then it is just patriotic. Hypocrisy! I mean look at Captain America, how natiolistic do you have to be to invent thatlame character and even take it seriously?
Did someone in Hollywood make a movie about the Native American genocide? Kinda like Shindler's list, but instead with Indians!
What I'm saying is that COD is essentially a big dumb movie and it's pretty much expected that it will have jingoistic big dumb plots.
The US does have a patriotic fever about it that other countries would regard as overzealous perhaps. It's not all like that of course but people who make entertainment products know that they can count on an audience like that to buy their movies and buy their games.
Just recentely I read that Captain America the movie was going to get a big box office hype because of feelings of patriotism after Bin Ladens death.
Its not everywhere like that. I remember people in New York talking about the European Cup in football when I was there. And a doorman, talking about all the good Dutch football players. Some cities like New York are very cosmopolitan, but there is big part, like everything in the middle and Florida, that is just scary.
Actually yes there have been several movies about that. John Ford, king of the Hollywood western actually made one at the end of his career called Cheyenne Autumn. ANd more recently, even Dances With Wolves touches on that quite a bit.
I know you've been to the US several times, but you make me wonder how much of the US media really gets distributed world wide. The main type of film that's still made in Hollywood is still the Comedy. These US vs. the World movies... I can't think of the last time I've even seen one. They were a lot bigger 20 years ago when the cold war was going on. The last movie like that I can even think of is True Lies. I'm sure there have been others, but you make them sound a hell of a lot more prolific than they are. Honestly I think the biggest grossing and most popular films that come out of the US these days are animated movies. Pixar, Dreamworks stuff like Shrek, etc. If we were identified by anything I'd think it'd be talking mice.
Being patriotic can be good, but its also like religion....an easy way to brainwash people into a large group. And just like people that are religious fanatics, I find people who are ultra patriotic to the point of thinking their country can do no wrong, pretty fucking blind and scary.
And Americans can make games like Portal, Uncharted, Metroid Prime and others that have nothing to do with war. Did you play Vanquish, its Russia trying to take out the US as well (well the US was plenty evil in that game as well) thats a Japanese game.
Do Russians make games... no. Thats your answer. They made Tetris which is a good place to quit.
The problem is that most US devs make shooters, that is what is popular so we get a ton of war games and the cold war plot is still a very interesting one. Terrorist cells and going after oil makes for a terrible epic story, you need a big bad guy, the last big bad guy was Russia. Its why we still see a million WW2 games cause it had the greatest bad guys the world has ever known.
If you have not noticed, Americans love guns. YEEHAW *shoots in the air*
Sonic Colors! Sweet. And Vanquish did very well too, great to see. Platinum is here to stay, best move Sega has done in years.
I read it, it got a 5 out of 5 and they said its a new standard in story telling for games. Its the closest we have ever come to playing a movie. The face stuff is groundbreaking. The game is very lengthy and has an excellent story.
But everything about the gameplays seemed meh but they just gloss over it. Shooting is more basic than GTA, its as simplistic as it gets. You drive around the city without much to do except a few side missions, think mafia 2. You cant ever really fail, if you suck at interrogations and stuff you get the same outcome but get yelled at by your boss.
I expect a few 7s for this game from some major sites.
What is up with all these OoT trailers, we know what it is, stop wasting money advertising it to us, everyone will get it. How about focus on the Zelda game no one knows about.
Oh forgot about Dances with the Wolves. Heck I remember when I was smaller the movies made it seem that the Indians were the bad guys. It is really disgusting once you find out what really happned. Later series and movies did set things right.
And of course there is lots of awesome cartoons. I really love Pixar for example. But the discussion is about the flag waving patriotism. And it is more prevalent in American media then in other countries. I remember Independence Day which was just a big patriotic wank fest. I remember all Micheal Bay movies, wish I could forget those. I remember Captain America. Are you claiming that the USA is less patriotic than Europe?
You are probably right. Just an easy way to make money and the Americans are 'patriotic' so basically you get the movies you deserve.
No one said it was the only thing they made. And Vanquish is a bad example, Platinum wanted to make a game the west liked. So the Japanese also think you are war mongering savages.
And calling the Russians the last big bad guy is pretty simplistic worldview. And the Cold War was boring, the fact that you do not glow in the dark, is testament to that.
