Kinect sounds like a broken piece of crap. I am physically unable to use it in my room, thats crazy (and no I am not changing the entire setup of my room to fit kinect). At least the dancing game and cute pets game seems fun. It will be a great party game machine but that is about it. They still need to show me that it can be used in any normal game, which is something Move and Wii excel at.
Arstechnica:
The Good
The hardware is easy to set up, with good instructions
The games are simple to jump in and play
Using your hand as a cursor can be fun
The games make you move, and tend to be a good workout
Voice commands are useful in some circumstances
The camera can adjust itself to put you in frame
Games still work in low light conditions
It knows who is playing, and uses that account
The effect is uncanny when everything works right
The Bad
The menu system takes much longer than just using buttons
The hardware sometimes has issues hearing you or seeing your movement
The games are very similar
Without buttons, you lose control in certain parts of certain games
It starts at $150, which feels expensive
There is lag. It's not terrible, but it's there
The Kinect Hub doesn't do everything, or even most things
The Ugly
Too many games used the "take pictures during gameplay" gimmick. We get it—playing games on the Kinect makes us look stupid. It almost feels like you're playing a game so the 360 can laugh at you
Verdict: Skip... for now.
Arstechnica:
Also, many of these games are fun and the experience really is impressive, but where do we go from here? I get the uneasy feeling that we've already seen most of what the hardware can do in terms of games, at least until Microsoft admits defeat with the lack of buttons and creates games that use both the Kinect hardware and a physical controller. Notice how many games mirror each other, in a thin selection of genres. How many times are we hitting balls coming at us with our hands and body? How many fitness and dancing games do we need? The demos for the upcoming Star Wars and Harry Potter games also seem too similar: you stand there, defeat all the enemies, move forward on rails, and repeat.
The Move side-steps all these issues by having you hold one or two controllers. Sony's solution also allows for more precision in movement, as we saw when we compared the Table Tennis games on the two pieces of hardware. You can twist the Move controller in your hand and your on-screen counterpart rotates its wrist in the same way. With the Kinect, your hands are more like static blocks; there is no fine control.
Which isn't to say the picture is bleak. These games are fun, and they make you sweat, and when it all works well the experience draws you into the game in a way that's absolutely amazing. Every now and again I did get the feeling I was playing something very special, and nearly magical. For casual gamers, and those with a family, this is very cool stuff. The question, at least when it comes to games, is where things go from here.

Now if you will excuse me I am going to play a real game, an action game, with motion controls that work and don't require me to have an entire new room.
Kinect will be a pretty good family/social game, but I don't know what else it can do.

Now Playing: Golden Sun Dark Dawn, God of War Ghost of Sparta, and DKC Returns
Yeah, 6-8 feet with no coffee table ottoman? That puts it in the "never buy" category for me. I have a game room. It's bigger than most of the apartments I lived in for the first 10 years of my adulthood, and Kinect would not work in it because of the way the room is organized with couches ottomans etc...
"While testing out the Kinect, two dark-skinned GameSpot employees experienced problems with the system's facial recognition abilities. The system recognized one employee inconsistently, while it was never able to properly identify the other despite repeated calibration attempts. However, Kinect had no problems identifying a third dark-skinned GameSpot employee, recognizing his face after a single calibration. Lighter-skinned employees were also consistently picked up on the first try"
Gamespot story above. I'll stand back and let NeoGaffe make the photoshops of people in blackface, Rosa Parks etc...
Lighter-skinned employees...half-casts?
Wikipedia says, "In Australia the term is thoroughly offensive". So maybe you should try getting a job at Microsoft, you'd fit right in.
Did anyone catch the name of the url for the gaming forum thread topic generator that was mentioned in the giantbombcast this week? It was uncanny in it''s ability (and also kind of depressing). I cannot find it on the web.
Only other thing of note is that Gerstmann had kind things to say about GoldenEye 007, but mostly as a foil for BloodStone, which he described as being "fine" and not much else.
___
Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
Not as offensive as suggesting that someone would fit in at Microsoft, though.
Thanks for compiling everything together Vader. Very nice to see all the average reviews and stories all in one place.
And yeah, broken tech... think I'll pass. Oddly enough I have a feeling that if MS knew how well they would be doing right now as far as sales of both consoles and games they probably would have either scrapped this or just sat on it for another 6 months to a year. As the company that's been the market leader for the past 6 months, this just seems like a distraction to all the success they've been having.
This video popped up on YouTube the other day - Black Man Loves Pokemon. I've been laughing my ass off and I figured why not share it. You may be offended, but screw it. I think it's funny. Lots of NSFW language here:
Not sure if these have been shown before, but IGN has found some killer videogame vehicle retro posters. Got to love stuff like this:

Hi buddies
Sorry I'm late, but I was caught playing Goldeneye which arrived this morning.
I will give impressions later but they will end with this sentence: Forgot about Wii, forget about IR vs Dual Analogue, Goldeneye flat out is a great game regardless.
Game is pretty sweet so far.
