4.5/5 - Thank goodness for the battle system, then, because it saves the game while you're wincing through the saccharine banter and waiting for the training wheels to spin off.

It's not really fair to compare the two. That final case in PW3 was built up over the course of 3 games. They brought in special guest stars and everything. It's something that could never have been duplicated in just one game. I think if given time and a few sequels you could get the same reaction out of an Edgeworth game.
why is FFXIII getting such a wide range of review scores? i've seen anything between a 5/10 to perfect scores. so most complain about linearity? why didn't they complain about FFX's linearity?
i don't think i will get to play this game until it's a lot cheaper so i can't have my own opinion at present but i'm thinking Leo's conspiracy theory of anti JRPG reviews is maybe not so far-fetched after all.
___
Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
(1) It was reviewed by a bunch of unimaginative twit-wads that couldn't get past the fact it tried something a bit different than the typical Final Fantasy.
(2) Reviewers are now nestled snugly in the back-pocket of certain publishers and if a game doesn't have the words: Dragon. Mass. Age or Effect in it, it automatically scores 7 or below.
Archie! GG made me burn myself!
Can you blow on this for me?
Who knows what some of those FFXIII reviewers are thinking. Sure it's linear but so what it's still an excellent game.
Holy shit Steel! You finished another game already?! What, are you afraid the world is going to end in 2012?
Rondo of Blood on VC! Hoo-rah! Finally I can now play this one Castlvania game that has eluded me thus far. I'll be downloading this baby later today.
So this is the internet speed I have to put up with today. And it's been like this at a relative's house for weeks now.
WTF is this?
They were suppossed to be UPgrading to 10mb a second, it used to be 2mb. I can't even read these figures, it's like 0.24 mbs? It feels like its only slightly above 56k at the moment.
But in other games there was usually a tie to phoenix or one of his friends. Like Mia dying, or Maya getting kidnapped. Edgeworth just sort of does his job. If it weren't for Kay there wouldn't be any personal motive there.
I think he was expecting an ointment, not your saliva.
The FFXIII reviews shouldn't be a surprised. Even reviewers who score it low are completely justified if they explain why they did it in the review. When a company decides to try a different direction with an established franchise it's going to upset people who go into the game with expectations of something familiar.
When you make a sequel, you set people up to expect the familiar. Fail to live up to that, and you get bad reviews. If SE had any balls they'd just release the game and ditch the Final Fantasy name. Then again it's all a moot point since it's Final Fantasy and sucks great big donkey balls anyway.
PSP 'a bollocking useless waste of space' - Codi What the?! Edge says something we can all agree on!?

Who edited this?
I do not agree with this. A year ago I would have but I love my PSP now. I'll write a blog extolling it's greatness one of these days.
Just because Edgeworth didn't have an emotional investment doesn't mean the player doesn't, which is still ultimately what you connect with. And this game still had that with the Yatagarasu saga that played out. Like I said, I don't think it's fair to compare the last chapter of PW3 with this game. I think the final chapter of this game was on par with the last chapter of PW1 when Edgeworth was on trial, and actually better than PW2 when Maya was kidnapped (which frankly was kind of lame).
Yikes^
I disagree and I'm not just comparing it with the final case in PW3 but the other 4 games as a whole. When I play, I am Phoenix wright, the characters are talking in the first person to me and the people I care about are at stake and in direct danger.
Edgeworth is like an impartial observer and Kay is too chipper to care about, I mean does she even care about what happened? You wouldn't know it from all the fist pumping and grinning.
And I'm not digging the last case of Miles Edgeworth either, its okay but it has too many false endings and one more go - testimonies and rebuttals. Lang is annoying too, just give it up already, it's like verbally sparing with some people here.
I liked the 3rd and 4th cases more. 2nd was fun, first is kinda useless but that's par for the course. It's a good game and I really like the new gameplay system and viewpoint, it just needs more emotional impact and actual drama. Like what happened to Terry Fawles.
I have a hard time believing FF 13 is better than Lost Odyssey, as LO was in many ways a new FF game without the name. Hell, I think it was the most FF-like game since FF10, and better in most ways honestly. Yet that game got plenty of crap reviews since its cool to hate on "j-rpg's" nowadays, so what's surprising about FF13 getting some odd reviews too?
I'm sure its still averaging well above Lost Odyssey's scores.
Honestly, I think it was the cutting edge 3D worlds. There was almost nothing like it. It was one of the first true action adventure 3D titles that took place in large open environments. Plus they had excellent puzzles, took you to some incredible locations. They were long, challenging, memorable, unlike the games of now.
Yeah exactly, the worlds were insane. I could not believe the size of the levels back then, its really the game that got me back into gaming at the time so I was pretty blown away. Really TR1 and Mario 64 were the games that really nailed 3D gaming first. And because of the sheer size and scope of TR's environments and its insane exploration and platforming, it was an even more impressive game in some ways IMO.
I need to try Lost Odyssey but am I wrong to say it stays very traditional. FFXIII throws out so much and makes a game for the ADD generation, for fans of large open worlds and side quests and stuff it sucks. I do miss that but what they did with the combat is excellent, feels like almost like an action game, well an action game with menus.
Yup TR was non-N64 owners Mario 64, that was our "omg look at this world I get to run around in" moment.
