EA on Mature Wii games
Q: You've got Dead Space Extraction coming up - mature content on the Wii hasn't really taken off yet, so do you expect that game to act as a turning point in people's perceptions of what the console can do?
Dr Jens Uwe Intat: We're trying - one of the explanations we have is that there's a lot of double ownership, so people having a Wii and a 360 and/or PS3. They're really playing different types of games on those two machines, and historically up to know we assume those people will have played the more mature content on the more high-tech machine.
Dead Space Extraction is going to be a very nice test of that hypothesis, because we're really building a game where the Wii version is very different to the Dead Space game on 360 and PS3, and we'll actually see whether we can reach more people with a) a great game and b) interesting content.
If that's not going to work, then obviously the whole proposal from our point of view at least of more mature games on the Wii just does not work.
Q: So you'll know within six months if mature Wii games is a genre you want to follow up?
Dr Jens Uwe Intat: Yes, I agree.
SEGA ON MATURE Wii games
“I don’t know why MadWorld didn’t sell so well,” he said. “Perhaps it was the black and white graphics or the violence, but to argue mature games don’t sell well on Wii just because we launched one that didn’t hit right away would be arrogant. We have other teen and mature games we will be launching on the Wii platform.”
Hayes was upbeat about recent Wii shooter release The Conduit, which he pointed out had shipped 300,000 units worldwide since
That's an entirely different argument.
I can't possibly get interested in this game. Then again, I never cared for Okami either.
About Firmware 3.0, I think I'll avoid going online with my PS3 until the dust has settled down.
Regarding EA's statement, I wish them the best of luck with DS Extraction. I won't get it, but I hope it sells.
So Extraction is EA's "test game".
Jesus Christ. So sick of this crap. Extraction wont sell because its a lightgun game and unlike Umbrella Chronicles its not based on a multimillion selling, decade old licence.
Not only that, the first dead space game debuted on other systems. What hope does Extraction have exactly?
They should feel good if it breaks 600'000.
But why are we still getting tests? There are already examples of core third party games selling, why is it a one-game-and-bust dealio for these companies? They half ass something, it doesn't do well and that's frigging IT.
Congratulations.
If one game fails on any other console its not curtains, they look into the reasons why. It's not: Condemned 2 failed so no more violent games on this platform.
"but to argue mature games don’t sell well on Wii just because we launched one that didn’t hit right away would be arrogant"
Thanks SEGA.
It's interesting how Sega has become a voice of reason in the industry these days. I'm sure part of these is just spin, but it's nice to at least pretend that this is company that learned from a lot of screw ups and now has a realistic and practical view of development, publishing and the market itself.
As far as Extraction goes if it doesn't get great reviews and a serious ad budget behind it, I just don't see good things happening. I remember when plenty of people were up in arms when reports were coming out that the original Dead Space was failing to meet its projections. What hope does a rail gun game have? Truth be told I actually think it looks kind of good, and I have it on my list of games to potentially get, but without some great reviews it'll just be a rental.
What? Contra: Rebirth hitting Wiiware tomorrow? That's awesome but strange that they're releasing it on a Friday.
Even people who like Dead Space aren't even looking forward to this game and look at the reaction at the announcement after Ricitello hyped it.
If it's a test game its a really bad one. The original game had two platforms to sell on, probably a budget 4 times greater and lets be honest, its marketing budget was probably going to be a lot more than this game too.
Realistically what do EA expect from this?
"Dead Space Extraction is going to be a very nice test of that hypothesis, because we're really building a game where the Wii version is very different to the Dead Space game on 360 and PS3, and we'll actually see whether we can reach more people with a) a great game and b) interesting content."
Extraction is neither a) a great game
Nor b) interesting content
Screw EA and their tests

Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
You know perhaps some publishers are using this "test" talk as a means to get Wii owners worked up so they think they have to buy the game.
Maybe someone should ask Svensson on the Ask Crapcom boards.
I was semi-interested in checking out Extraction as I liked the recent horror light gun games and its pacing seemed different. But this kind of BS just makes me not want to go anywhere near it.
EA hardly has a great stable of mature type games but on other systems they keep trying with games like Mirrors Edge, Dead Space, Army of Two etc. And they are games that sell like over a million - (but across 2 maybe 3 platforms.) So the breakdown of sales isn't that amazing compared to wii titles anyway.
They're still going with Dante's Inferno and an Army of Two sequel though.
yeah, such tactics are stupid. it has the opposite effect on me as it leaves me with even less good will towards the game or its publishers. developers are the ones taking the test, not administering them for gamers to pass or fail.

I can kind of see why they're doing it. This is a pretty big and anticipated title. Something of this level probably deserves to be released solo. Plus, if this game came out along with anything else, those other games wouldn't be touched.
Is it Europe? Because we normally get our games on Friday when it comes to WiiWare and VC.
