Umm yeah. I'm not really sure how well Gabe's idea of gamers funding games would turn out. Probably a convoluted mess as is indictive of forums in how so many uneducated demands on what should and shouldn't be in games. Too many people with unreal expectations. Anyway I'm already flooded with games I'm really enjoying how could I find room for more.
It might be the only way to get Shenmue 3. I would support the idea if there was a rock solid plan in place. Like you pledge a cash amount that wouldn't be charged to your card unless they reached the budget threshold for the game to go ahead. And of course there would be a time limit so if they didn't get enough pledges within a year your commitment ended.
Also there would have to be a responsibility there on behalf of the devs, what happens if they take too long or go over budget what happens then?
Unless gamers were to just front the money and let the devs do their own job then it would be a disastor and way too complicated to be of any value. Then you have the whole thing of paying for and doing the advertising. Also unless each person were putting in tens of thousands of dollars if not hundreds then trying to accomodate all or even most of their wishes would be a logistical nightmare if not downright impossible.Gabe's idea is a pipe dream. Nothing more.

My take? Well, although Sam Raimi has his hits and misses (Spider-Man 2 HIT, Spider-Man 3 TERRIBLE!!!), at least a established, well-known veteran director is directing WoW instead of some no-name filmmaker or bad directors.
