Same reason why I haven't played Pikmin 3, DKC TF, hyrule Warriors or Lego city yet, there is too many other stuff I want to play. The difference here is that I am being smart and not paying full price on something that will sit on my shelf. There is zero chance I will like splatoon more than destiny or MGSV or fallout when that hits, it's not like I haven't played splatoon I know what it is.
When a new Mario hits I stop what I am doing and play it, same with Zelda and metroid cause those franchises have earned my respect. Splatoon needs to get in line and wait.
^^ same here. When Splatoon was first released, The Witcher came out which I preferred over a barebones mp at the time. Then Batman arrived, then I was poor the rest of the summer. MGS came out which certainly had precedence over Splatoon. Now BB and Amazon have(had) it for sale for $45 but I need to wait till at least next weekend to see if I am in a position to buy. If not, another month, perhaps.
I did choose Mario Maker over Splatoon because I wanted a game to play with my children, that they could be involved in and create too!

There was rumors Destiny was coming out for Wii U 3 years ago. There's always a chance!
I was carrying the flag far before the game came out and got it at launch. *washed hands*.
And enjoyed it for a good two months, and would still play it if I did not have to play new games for the podcast.
I did purchase Splatoon, and Codename Steam (that game is not good though). It's a good game. It and the 2 Platinum Games are really the only thing about the WiiU I give a shit about. Maybe 4 games if Affordable Space Adventures entertains me. Either way I want more new, less the same old shit.
edgecrusher said:The look and style of it just doesn't appeal to me that much for the type of game it is.
This is as bad as those who don't play Nintendo games because they look kiddy. You!
The thing is though that it's not a traditional shooter really so don't imagine that it's like COD with cartoon skins. It's half platformer, completely outrageous with some awesome non-traditional weapons. It really is very unique.
SupremeAC said:I think Nintendo shot themselves in the foot with the drip-feed of new content, at least here at the VGPress.
Yes, I think this affected reviews. If they had all the content from day one the reviews would have been better. To date no site has re-reviewed the game with the new content. So if people just looked at launch reviews and thought "meh" it's harder to change that impression now, which is sad.
SupremeAC said:Quite a shame as well, because I think this game would be right up Dvader's ally.
Iga_Bobovic said:Nintendo has been making new IPs all the time, but somehow they do not count.
Yes, I was discounting all the other stuff because that's what the general gaming discussion boards do. If you take away all the little proviso's there aren't many other qualifications to discount Splatoon from any discussion, about new Nintendo IP.

Your mom.
I don't know why I wrote that.

All the more reason to get Splatoon because it isn't your traditional shooter. It's a Nintendian take on a chaotic mass brawl with paint guns. It couldn't be more different to Gears of War.
Dvader said:When a new Mario hits I stop what I am doing and play it, same with Zelda and metroid cause those franchises have earned my respect. Splatoon needs to get in line and wait.
But Mario Maker can't wait? And you say you're not interested in online multiplayer games while showing interest in buying other multiplayer shooting games? Are going to buy SW Battlefront and the new RE FPS?
Dvader said:Same reason why I haven't played
Pikmin 3, DKC TF, hyrule Warriorsor Lego city yet,
These are not New Nintendo IP and only one of those games is developed internally at Nintendo. And..... you did buy and play Hyrule Warriors. How many Warriors games did you play, before it earned enough respect for you to buy Hyrule Warriors?
Dvader said:When a new Mario hits I stop what I am doing and play it, same with Zelda and metroid cause those franchises have earned my respect. Splatoon needs to get in line and wait.
Yet you'll buy Destiny day 1 before any reviews have hit then sit and lap it up while the 7/10s roll in? How is Splatoon supposed to earn your respect when you don't buy and play it? When people don't buy a game it makes it more likely a sequel wont be produced, so by leaving it to wait for your respect and hobo-ing it you might be increasing the chances that it wont survive as a series. Effectively killing it - because a game you haven't given a fair shake yet, it has not earned your respect - cause you haven't played it for more than a couple of tesfires with the barebones weapons on a couple of maps.
travo said:^^ same here. When Splatoon was first released, The Witcher came out which I preferred over a barebones mp at the time.
It launched with a full single player campaign.

Now that's a valid reason.

What? On my Xbox 360? Fuck you!

Given how I feel about the Halo games, I won't be going there regardless of platform.
I guess the reason I want more people to buy it is so I can face off with you in a match. It's so much fun I wish we could all get together and have some mass 8 player matches. It's perfect for that, but still great, regardless of playing with friends - the online is that good. And I know there are many people here who would love the game given half a chance. It has all the Nintendo design trademarks as outlined in the opening post. So polished, so tactile, exuberant fun, everything from the sound effects, to menus to music, Miiverse community etc.
It's very rare for them to put on a show like this with a new IP. It really does feel like the internet has been harping on and on and on about a New Nintendo IP and then it comes out and people don't buy it. Fair enough but if this is followed by more bitching for new IP from GAF and the rest of them, argh....
While I don't have a problem with different I already played the demo they had before and the game just doesn't interest me enough to get it.
If the online plays anything like Smash, I don't want to invest my time into it.
Listen to Iced Earth and play Doom
Hasn't this game sold many millions already and doesn't it have a very healthy and active online community? It's not like nobody bought/plays it. Just not everyone here I guess.
GG, the single player is a glorified tutorial, but works well as one. It's hardly on the level of even something like a CoD (4 and prior) or Killzone campaigns etc. Nintendo is completely to blame for their stupid content strategy.
I've had huge problems connecting to matches the last few times I've played, but that's always been during Splatfest.
GG you make it seem like I want original Nintendo games, give me sequels. A Mario, Zelda or metroid game will be better than any new IP Nintendo makes.
As I mentioned before I played the game, I also played destiny for 30 hours during the alpha before buying it. Destiny was better. So destiny got to be played day 1 and splatoon did not. It didn't help that splatoon hit when a huge game like witcher hit and then batman. Then I have my thing where if I don't buy a game day 1 I feel I must wait for it to go on sale, major sale, but Nintendo games rarely do. Then there is the it's an online game thing so it will take up time, it never ends. Do I want to put my time on that or other games. If it were just a 10 hour game yeah I would have played it already.
I have not touched hyrule Warriors, it's still in the wrapping,I played a demo at a store. Of course I got Mario maker day 1, it's Mario! And even that got pushed aside for destiny and MGO. Destiny is not a competitive online shooter, destiny is an online FPS loot game, PSO with guns, it is not like like I all of a sudden love competitive online multiplayer.. And of course I will get battlefront, it's Star Wars! I rather spend my time playing that online cause I want to experience the universe, it's more than just playing the game.
Now there is no chance I play splatoon any time soon, all the big games come out. I won't have time for it. I'll get it on sale during one of the holiday sales, not sure when I will play it.
I think telling someone that if the style and presentation isn't their cup of tea is a bit much.
Gagan said:I think telling someone that if the style and presentation isn't their cup of tea is a bit much.
You can edit your posts all you want, but the VGPress remembers! I saw your original thread in which you stated you'd take Splatoon of Destiny any day!

Huh, I figured it was unnecessary and off topic, so I toned it down and just rolled with the rest of the thread. But yeah Splatoon is a much better game, Destiny is dog shit.
Well I've never been someone who clamours for Nintendo to make new IPs, in fact I buy Nintendo hardware specifically so I can play their latest games in their old IPs. I also don't get the logic that if one likes the shooter genre then one should like this game because it's a shooter. Gears of War and Splatoon are worlds apart.
