Disaster is cheesy awesomeness. You can get it for pennies over here now so import if needs be.

As for region specific games what Europe is missing is Fatal Frame IV which I wouldn't play anyway without english language and excitebots.

Can you recommend a good site for buying EU games?

Blah ships to Australia, so surely they'd ship to America. 365games.co.uk actually have quite a few bargains too, as to zavvi, and eBay is always good for the odd bargain.

People do not, I repeat do not update to 4.2 just yet. Updating will delete BootMii and you will not be able to play imported games anymore. Wait until the hackers fix this problem. Stay tuned for more info.

Guys, I can confirm personally that the Wii Shop is accessible. My Wii is still on 3.2. The procedure is using WiiSCU to update IOS61 and the Wii Shop.

I should have a tutorial page up for both online and offline installs soon.

Edit: actually make that online installs only. It doesn't support offline installs.

Edit2: And here's a link to the page. Wii Shop for everyone Happy.

Take that Evil Empire. They may take our life, but they will never take our homebrew!

I'll vouch for this. Works like a charm.  It took an extra 30 seconds or so for the Wii Shop channel to launch, but once it did there were no issues or problems.  Now that this is taken care of, next week I will happily be able to download Lost Winds 2 with no worries.  In fact, I may even celebrate sticking it to The Man by downloading You Me and the Cubes. . . and put more money into The Man's wallet... doesn't really sound so rebellious anymore does it?

Well, IGN did give it a very nice 9.1. If you wait till Monday though I'll give you a review myself (assuming we get it next week).

Do I feel lucky? Or bored enough to brick a wii? Hmmm. Do you think if its bricked and I send it in, I can pretend that the red and green dot GPU problem is their fault too?

Actually, you may want to brick the system.  Since it's firmware, they can't just "fix it" they'd either have to replace the board that houses the firmware, or more easily, send you a new console.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile

Is this firmware bricking covered under warranty? Because mine ran out end of 07.

Nintendo will fix any console that has been bricked by their firmware update, unless they find that you've modded your Wii in some way. Original warranty doesn't matter.

Okay VADER I need you help

Go to this neogaf thread and post the following message.

I have a problem, I just installed start patch 4.2.6 euro version with the help of the GAF's Wii Homebrew Tutorial (I had the official 4.2 system update). And the installation worked perfectly. So I started to install the following patches.

  • Disable Disc Region Checks 1/5, 2/5,..,5/5
  • Region free GC game no VM Patch
  • Region Free Channels
  • Block Disc Updates
  • Block Online Updates
  • Remove no copy protection 1/5, 2/5,..,5/5
  • Move disc channel
  • Auto press A at health screen

And most of it worked really well. I can move the disc channel, I can copy my Brawl save to SD card, it immediately skips the health screen. All works as it should except for the region free part.

The disc channel recognizes my imported games (No More Heroes and MadWorld, which are both imported US versions). So far so good, I click on the window and I get the usual Wii start up screen. When I press 'start' the screen turns black and nothing happens. Just a black screen! This forces me to shut down the Wii by pressing and holding the power button.

So in short, the Wii recognizes my import games, but it does not start them.

I tried various things to get it fixed. I tried deleting the Disable Disc Region checks and reinstalling them. I disabled various other patches, like Region free channels and GG games, but to no avail. I tried searching the internet, but found nothing. Could you help me?

Thanks in advance
