Have you tried using the NeoGamma Back-Up Launcher/Loader? I'm not sure if it would be compatible with a PAL Wii, but I've used it to launch both a Japanese and a PAL game and it's worked like a charm for me and I haven't heard any problems with it. You may want to give it a shot if you haven't already.

I already can play import games with Gecko OS, but with Startpatch I can launch them from the disc channel just like any other game. Plus it will also block all the disc updates. Someone (Steel, GG, Vader) post my previous post at Neogaf!

I already did that. I had to install Truncha bug restorer, then custom IOS, then Startpatch.
Startpatch will not work without it.
