Tonight I watched a French animated film called Peur(s) du Noir.  Which google tells me means Fear(s) of the Dark:

It was a very very weird film.  One of those I sort of enjoy, even though I don't quite understand completely art-house type affairs.  It consists of 4 shorter films with a fifth one used as link between the 4 as well as some bits of monologue.  The visual style is very striking and it's entirely in black and white.  Each of the short films has its own very unique style of art and animation.  The stories themselves are pretty absurd and rather difficult to describe.  Let me just say in there somewhere there were elements of magical realism, Kafka, the Fly, Audition, the hound of the Baskervilles, french/european folklore and a lot of Limbo (even though this came before and could in fact very well have been an influence).  It's a very very dark film that's rather unsettling, I would recommend it though if you think it may be your sort of thing, and certainly  to fans of comics and animation.  I think I will link a bunch of images to give a better idea.

I just saw Ninja Assassin, HOLY SHIT!!! What a fucking awesome action movie!

As soon as I saw the previews for the movie all I could think was, "there's already a Red Steel 2 movie?" Definitely something I want to check out, though probably not in the theaters.

The previews made it look really cheesy bad, but to be fair the movie is so crazy it was almost a cartoon, thats what came across in the previews. What didn't come across is that the movie was an extremely well made action movie that hits all the right beats, has a great action movie story and some truely spectacular action scenes.

What the hell? This is the movie starring Rain the Korean pop star right? I was avoiding it based on reviews, but now I will check it out when it comes to dvd.

It's mostly coincidental that I should watch two animated films back to back but this (after Peur(s) du Noir) was another stunningly beautiful film with a wonderful and extremely unique style of art and animation.  Unlike Peur(s) du Noir though this was incredibly colourful and bright.  Also unlike Peur(s) du Noir the story is very grand and epic about people going through dark times of extreme danger and struggling for the survival of their lives and civilisation.  It's a fictionalised account of the writing of The Book of Kells (still on display today in Trinity College Dublin).  I have an emotional connection to Ireland and the Irish ... and reading all the grim news about their budget for the next four years and the IMF stepping in etc meant that the timing of me watching this also added to the emotional impact it had on me.

I recommend it very very highly to everyone.  Especially to lovers or animation and in particular studio ghibli.

I've got this on my rental list.

Best show on TV right now and you fire the writers. But the article makes it seem like Darabont did not like the writers and rewrote all the scripts for the show.

If American shows are getting shorter, all I can say is fuck yes.

(As long as long ones don't die out completely.)

It used to be a set 22 or 24 from what I can remember.

No, thats cable vs network. Network shows have around 20 episodes a season. Cable has 12-13. Nothing to do with quality, cable doesn't have as much money or needs to fill time with new content as much.
