I don't have this game but I'm glad to see this thread. I want to see you two press together.

When does someone not need a beer? God knows I need a beer. Really makes me wish I hadn't quit drinking.
And of course now other people FINALLY start playing this game... gahhhh. I may have to go out and pick it up again at some point.

You quit drinking?!
I've had this game for a few months now. Never got passed the boring begining part. I don't want to forage for mushrooms! I want to kill monsters, goddammit!

Yeah no kidding. I haven't gone completely cold turkey, but I've had one drink in the last two months. Something happened to recently and my body just doesn't like alcohol anymore. A single beer can make me feel like shit now. I guess my liver is giving me payback for a couple years of drinking sweat sock infused vodka.

My liver and kidney are still 100% according to tests, so I am not relenting. But I respect your choice, especialy if family is involved. I know I would be better off without it, but I have to cope somehow, and it's legal.

Nahhh this is just me being selfish. If I cared more about other people I'd probably drink more and push through it. I guess the one silver lining is that on the rare occasions where I will drink, I'll be a cheap drunk again. That'll be nice. Still, it's a bit of a bummer because I just got this really cool recipe book that has classic cocktail recipes from the early part of the 1900's. Really wanted to try that out and see how my grandfathers drank.
And in the meantime, back to Monster Hunter 3U.

Thank you Robio. Other news so far includes bugs ignoring this thread. This could point towards 2 things:
a) Bugs is very busy stomping ants and collecting mushrooms, which I applaud
b) Bugs is in fact not playing 'Shroom Forager 3 Ultimate and all claims of co-op were part of a big -and dark- sheme of which the final goal is to get me addicted to Monster Hunter all over again. Which I could not applaud to.
Will Bugs play MH3U? Will he buy a headset when he could do just as well without? Will I need to press all alone? Stay tuned!
Also, I am hereby shouting out to all those whimps who have owned the game for a while now but:
a) never got around to properly playing it
b) sold it
to get their monster hunting act together and pick up the game again. Together we will unite to take down whatever monstrosities await us and to carve skin and bone from their still hot corpses in order to fashion ourselves with ludicrous armor and weoponry as we outbid eachother for the most outlandisch costumes. It will be glorious.
I'm not ignoring the thread ... just feeling very guilty by it. This is the game I most look forward to playing (even more so than Mario Kart ... as soon as I finish Tropical Freeze. I have to finish that first as it's something I can see me doing. Go to the thread of beaten games and see how many I've done this year so far. I think it's one. I need to get a second game under my belt to make me feel like a gamer again. I swear it will make me a better monster hunter.
OK, so I tried to start this today. I'm having the same problem as with Tri. WTF do I do? Seriously this game gives you nothing to start you off. I'm trying to remain positive. I don't want to give up before I even start but ... just WTF do I do here?
The first thing you need to do (after you've spoken to everyone who has something significant to say), is head out to the hunter camp. There you'll meet the Chief's son. Then head back to the village, talk to him again, and you'll be asked to slay some small monsters, after which you'll have access to all those l33t 'shroom foraging quests!
I'm currently just under 3 hours in, and I have yet to slay my first true monster. And I have been speeding through quests as I still know exactly what to do.
Also, pro tip, when gathering herbs or honey, first duck. It speeds up gathering as the animation to rise up again is shorter.
Awesome! Thank you. This is the kind of guidance I'll need, at least to begin with. It didn't help that I was half asleep when I was trying to play this afternoon as I'd just got home from work and I had to squint my eyes to read the stupid dialogue boxes.
Tomorrow will be much better
The first thing you do is turn the game off and send it to Aspro to be shotgunned.
Although so far, 'the thread of free MH3U foraging for mushrooms and killing ants' would be more apt.
I chose MH3U as my free download courtesy of MK8 and figured I might get all the boring early stuff out of the way now that I had a whole 2 hour stretch of uninterupted gaming time all to myself. I remembered the boring stuff dragging on, but so far the only real quest I've been on has concerned me finding and delivering 3 'unique mushrooms'. That's right, 'Shroom Forager 3 Ultimate, baby!
Impressions so far: the game looks exactly the same as the Wii game, only in HD. Which is nice, although some form of anti-aliassing would have been nice. Speech bubbles seem to not have been upscaled, but just shrunk to match the same err... pixel space, they used on Wii. Which has you looking a lot at the bottom left corner of your screen, trying to read tiny text. The extra pixels also emphasise how sparse the Wii game actually looked. So far, so bad.
Good news is: Hunting Horns. This is a whole new class of weapon which seems to resemble hammers, but fancied after music instruments. You can dole out damage, then jam a bit to improve your stats and return to the damagedoling in even greater fashion. It's sufficiently daft, but it's a bit early to know if this class will prove to win my fancy over my current weapon of choice, the hammer. And yeah, more weapon classes, more monsters, more armor. But I understand that it will take many an hour before I get to see most of this 'new' stuff.
Anyhow, Bugs, hop to it. I tried to get a head start of you, but I'm expecting you to overtake me soon.
