B&W2 was a slight re-make, so maybe it was scored down for that?
Probably. I haven't actually read the reviews. It's probably just a stop-gap game while they work on 3DS games.aspro said:

I seem to be in the minority on this one, but I really disliked the new SSX. It has none of the charm or style of the older SSX games, and the controls suck hairy balls. I can't believe I paid full price for it.
I'm not sure how many people were really hyped for it, but I'd throw in Dawn of Mana. That was supposed to be a major console reintroduction to the series and it was just terrible on every single level, not to mention it had nothing in common with the original games. Utter disappointment.
What system was this for? I probably did hear about it but I just can't recall right now. I use to really enjoy the Mana games, it's a shame how the franchise turned out.robio said:I'm not sure how many people were really hyped for it, but I'd throw in Dawn of Mana. ME3 was fairly disappointing for a vocal group.
For me it was a let down from 2, but for very many reasons separate from what most people disliked it for.

GTA4 was a disappointment for many (though, again, not me for the same reasons). Mostly I think regular players did not take to the change in tone.

It came out on the PS2. I think it came out in 2007 so the PS3 had already launched and a lot of people forgot about it. Had it been a decent game though, I'm sure more people would have checked it out.

That is like the only gamers opinion I have read of it on the internet. How did it sell?
I think Ninja Gaiden 3 is the only recent major f*** up.
I don't think there is ANY other game that can match what's going on with Resident Evil 6 right now. Sure there are games that people may feel are overrated or underrated...or games that didn't end up as good as people hoped. But not on this level, and not for a game as major as Resident Evil....I mean, this is unprecedented on many levels.
Gamespot's 8.0 of Mario Sunshine springs to mind...but 8.0 was still a pretty solid score and most other outlets gave it very high ratings. Has there EVER been a major elite franchise on the level of Resident Evil that has universally bombed THIS bad?
Oh wait we're forgetting one even bigger than RE6. Final Fantasy XIV - MMO of Death. A game so bad the company actually tried to tell us all to forget about it.
Metroid: Other M would have to qualify no? I mean, you don't get much bigger names in gaming than Metroid. I don't remember how it sold, but it averaged 79. when none of the other home console versions have ever dropped out of the 90's.

You overestimate Metroid appeal in gaming. It was always niche and wil forever remain so! That being said Other M is a disaster. Sakamoto I am disapoint!

Couldn't agree more. In fact I'd even forgotten about it. It was so bad I just promptly erased it from memory.
Super Paper Mario was a slight disappointment for me due to not being as good as PM1 and PM2, but it was still a decent game which I enjoyed well enough to play to completion.
Very disappointed with Batman. Disappointed that so many people actually thought this trash was a wonderful game.
Slightly disappointed with Mario Tennis Open. A little too bare-bones and hence somewhat of a missed opportunity. Even it is the game I played the most this year

Oh yeah that was quite the failure indeed.

It was a spin off from the Prime games and from the off it was an uncertain proposal. When it was done it wasn't universally panned or anything and a good number of people liked it. Most of the complaints were just about Samus actually talking and having some character - a character some people didn't want. There were a few reviews that trashed the game because Samus wasn't enough of a hardass and had womanly feelings. Because that's totally wrong and all....
It was a solid, enjoyable game and I was pleasently suprised by it.
Yeah I really liked Other M as well. Definitely not on the level of Prime 1 or 3, but I liked it just as much as Prime 2. Some of the cutscenes WERE ridiculous though.
None of these examples still hold a candle to RE6.
Not sure if you guys heard the news or not, but apparently Resident Evil 6 has failed to live up to some peoples' expectations. Not long ago we saw something similar with NSMB2, though most people didn't have too high expectations for it in the first place, so maybe that didn't really count. But it still begs a fun question to discuss. What other big name games dramatically failed to meet critical and popular expectations?
