My kids already bought two Zelda games that I played far more than they ever did. Pretty sure that's all I'm getting out of them for the next decade.

No owning both version will give you Mewtwo as free dlc. The none 3ds owning peasant will have to pay for him! And Mewtwo will be in both versions!

Ummm... Yes and no. It looks beautiful and is full of interesting modes, but it still feels as if there's something missing to me. It feels like a lot of great little parts, but it doesn't feel a cohesive whole to me yet. Even if they just reiterated the original figurines battling each other story from the original few games, I would be fine with that. Sakurai is great at throwing everything and the kitchen sink at players, but he's not good at tying everything together. I'm happy about the ending cinematics; I am a tad skeptical about that board game mode. Overall I see a lot of content, but something still seems off... Maybe that feeling will disappear once I get to explore all the different game play types on my own.

That 50 things about Smash Direct had A LOT of fluff...When they have to highlight things like RESOLUTION! Item Frequency option screen! Music Test! Target Blast! GameCube controllers! Controller Adapters! 3DS as a controller! Internet Connection option screen!

I was watching and thinking to myself: "Really? LOL!"

There are very some cool additions, but they were diluted by a lot of unnecessary filler.

The ending cinematic is just 5 seconds of the character making poses, they showed kirby, its nothing.

I spent quite a bit of time with Smash 3DS this past weekend during the traveling and family visits. All levels and characters unlocked, and lots of time spent in the extra gameplay modes. Overall it was better than I expected it to be. Controls aren't as good as I'd like and the characters on the screen can be too small. Definitely agree with those criticisms, but it wasn't anything that really frustrated me. Smash Run is a hell of a lot of fun. I went back to playing that a lot more often than I expected I would. Not sure how much I'll really play this once I get the real version 10 days from now, but overall I was pleased with it. Solid handheld game.

Shocking, another Nintendo masterpiece! Like clockwork at this point.

Many sites are holding off from giving a score cause the online mode is not up yet. Which means the ones that have given it a score are basically saying the game is that good without online.

Destructoid: Absolutely smashing... yet again

9.5/10

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U delivers all of the rock-solid mechanics that the 3DS version gave us, with the joy of playing on a big screen with friends and a heap of worthwhile modes. It certainly doesn't negate the greatness of the 3DS edition, but for those who have a bunch of friends anxious to Smash and can only get one, this is the version to get.

GameXplain Review

Jim Sterling: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Review – MewTwo Many Cooks

9.5/10

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is a beautifully polished, impeccably tight game. While I’d have liked more 3DS integration, and the much-touted Amiibo inclusion isn’t anything to go crazy over, the game remains an absolutely stellar fighting game that I’m finding very difficult to tear myself away from. It’s packed with diverse content, can be tailored to suit anybody’s needs, and most important of all – it’s a ridiculous amount of bloody fun!

Also, MewTwo.

CVG: Super Smash Bros Wii U belongs on the big screen

9/10

Overall the game modes offered on Wii U are a big success, gluing together a package that is one of its creator's most generous and satisfyingly in-depth. And yet, as outstanding as Smash Wii U has turned out, we can't help but wonder if it could have been even better had it not been designed with 3DS connectivity in mind.

...

The 3DS version was all well and good, but the Wii U game is undoubtedly the main event, and now Smash Bros is back where it belongs: on your TV.

IGN: SIMPLY SMASHING

Review in progress

Preliminary Verdict

Nearly every aspect of Smash Wii U seems fine-tuned not only to appeal to the nostalgia of long-time Nintendo fans, but also to be accessible to new players. Then it draws them in deeper once they’re hooked with a set of great modes and tempting rewards. There’s just so much here, and I’ve rarely seen a game with so many enjoyable and replayable ideas in a single package. Playing eight-player matches was only the beginning, and I don’t see a reason I’ll stop playing Smash Wii U for a long time.

EGM Review: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

9.5/10

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U offers the most modes, fighters, and stages in the history of the franchise, with a surprisingly high level of polish across the board. Whether you prefer multiplayer or toughing it out against CPU fighters, you’ll find hours of excellent fun throwing down with your favorite Nintendo characters.

Geek: Super Smash Bros. Wii U Review – a nearly flawless evolution

No Score

Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U is neither an exploration into anything new nor is it an attempt to breathe new life into any one thing in particular, and the best part of heading into this game with that thought in mind is appreciating how fans are being offered exactly what they want from Nintendo.

...

In many ways Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U is the Omega Mode of the franchise, and a practically flawless execution of everything we’ve come to expect from the series. If you’re a Wii U owner there’s really no good reason to pass on this title, and if you’ve been considering picking up a Wii U and waiting for the right moment you are unlikely to find a better time than right now.

Venture Beat: 98/100

When I’m playing Smash Bros. with my friends, nothing can be better. We scream, we argue, we laugh, and we never want to stop. The Wii U version is a fantastic addition to the series. The new modes are great, but the excellent mechanics and huge, varied roster make it potentially the best entry in the franchise yet.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is the system’s best game yet, one of the best multiplayer experiences available, and one of Nintendo’s finest achievements.

Don't look at me.  You know I'm usually available to play if I have the game.

I was going to hold out on getting this, but some poor attempts at coördinating this chaotic bunch of sorry excuses for smash bros players might change my mind  Nyaa  Then again, the prospect of awfull lag might change my mind right back.
