EDIT: Because I made the 3ds thread I get to make the Wii U one. And it will be as sucky and barebones as the 3DS thread. Suck it bitches!!

Okay, because no one else want to create this thread, the responsibility falls on my shoulders.

So just to clear up. This is not a demo, this is a fully fledged game. With a lot of content.

And it is awesome. That is all you need to know. Go buy it!

Wait, you think this is a crappy thread?! Wait, where is your thread?! No, you did not bother making one, so SHUT UP!

So does anything special unlock on the real version of this game from playing this demo?

I read an editorial about this, but I agree with it wholeheartedly: Do you know what the ONE thing Smash 3DS is lacking in?

A compelling reason to play it... Sad

...and I fear it's going to be the same with the Wii U version...  Sad

The game is fun as hell to play, but there's no story, no intros or endings. There's no motivation to play other characters other than your favorite. You play to collect static trophies or to unlock other characters. There's nothing else. Online ranking, yeah, and, again, it's fun to play... but that's it. Smash Run is cool, seeing all the classic enemies, but you collect Equipment and Items for your characters, you fight an End Battle or some kind of Competitive event and it just ends or prompts you to start over. You get slight variations on character's specials and alternate looks for them, but that's it. I am concerned the Wii U version is going to have the same problem... Hell, it doesn't even have Smash Run!! All that's left is On-Screen, HD Online battles and so far the online battles on the 3DS version are just as laggy as the Wii! Nintendo needed to KILL IT with Smash Bros. If they aren't careful, if the game is as laggy on the U and there's no motivation to play it... IT may just kill Nintendo!

This is an improvement on Brawl.

An optional mode being removed is never an improvement in any scenario.

There is a classic mode that is better than ever. There is an all star mode. There is a multi man melee mode. A smash run mode, which is a mini adventure type mode. Homerun contest and break the target mode. There is also a fun little beyblade like minigame that uses streetpass. The game is filled with things to do!

Only the Sith deal in the absolute.
Removing an option that is crap is an improvement. It also means that the developer has more time to improve the other modes that are not crap.

This Smash plays a lot better than Brawl and it seems better balanced too.

I'm with Iga, there's still plenty of content left.  Didn't only Brawl add some sort of adventure mode?  So ditching it isn't like cutting out the beating heart of the game or anything.

However, I wonder if this is to do with Nintendo making the transition to HD and cutting content because of how much work it takes to create these games.  Look at MK8, another Nintendo game that was very light on content outside of the actual races.  They used MK TV for everything in that game.

Oh, Igglie... if you had a robotic soul to search, you would know what I am saying is true...  Sad

How is Classic Mode better? How is All Star mode anything other than a re-ordering of battles that still ultimately have no meaning behind them? Who is the "Boss" and what's the Story behind Smash Run? If it's an adventure mode, why are you adventuring? Has anyone ever cared about the Home Run contest? Or, now, Target Mode, for that matter? You can compare High Scores...? Whee! I could do that in an arcade, playing Space Invaders back in 1980-something...

I said before the game is a blast to play, but when it comes to motivation **when playing alone at least** you'll find there's next to nothing given to you to keep you going...

They could have named this game Unreal Smash Tournament 2014 and it would have been entirely appropriate. All the single player accomplishes is practice for playing online against other people... There's a ton of nostalgia in there, for sure, but Thanks for the Memories, Ninty... What do you have to offer other than that?

Stop being such a drama queen Leo.

Classic mode is better, because you have choice. It the old Smash games you could not choose who you going to fight next. In this one you can choose 3 paths. Plus the rewards like custom moves and thropies are also an extra incentive. By increasing the difficulty you also increase your rewards.

All star mode was also in Brawl and it is an interesting mode. Do I risk going in battle with a high percentage or do I use the healing items now? There is no meaning behind the fight, you just fight.

What's the story of the adventure mode in Melee? What's the story of the Subspace Emissary in Brawl? Why would you care about a story in a fighting game? Do you care what the story is in Street Fighter?

Actually Home run contest is very popular, so was the destroy the target mode in 64 and Melee. They kinda ruined it in Brawl and they fully destroyed it in this new one!

There are throphies, custom moves, unlockable characters, mii accesories and unlockable stages as an incentive to keep playing alone

So? Like all the other Smash Bros games! It is Smash Bros not sure what you expected and even then I will put many hours in the single player modes, like I put many hours in Brawl and Melee.

Do I play Street Fighter for the story? Well, yeah, kinda... It's nice to have something between the Title Screen and the End Credits other than the fight.

I'll forgive the drama queen jab solely for the reason that I --AM-- being dramatic because I had very high hopes for this game. I said it before, I'll say it again: It is fun --BUT-- it is VERY apparent --ALL-- the time went into character design and battle mechanics, with the assumption that the most popular modes would be the Online ones... This is not a good --SINGLE PLAYER-- game at all though; modes were just thrown together just for the sake of it.

As questionable as Subspace Emmisary was --AT LEAST-- the cut scenes where Sonic dashes in for the first time to save the day and you see him fighting beside Nintendo characters **in a time when this wasn't NEARLY as commonplace as it is now** was --VERY-- memorable and was a complete and utter fan-service to gamers who played through the Nintendo/Sega rivalry in the 90's... There's ---NOTHING--- like this in the current Smash on 3DS and very likely in the Wii U version either. It's just sad.

If we set up a tournament here and there were more of us to participate, I would be fine with the game as it is. I never imagined there would be THIS little interest in a title like this here. I can see why they didn't release both the 3DS version and Wii U one together now though. Once the U one comes out, there will be absolutely no reason to own this one anymore. That's why they made it seem like the U version would barely make this holiday season and why the actual date was announced after the 3DS one was out already... I know more people own the 3DS than the U, but anyone interested in Smash likely has the U already and will switch exclusively to that one the first moment they can...

...provided they don't fuck up the online playability...

...again.

By the way, I hope I am competely wrong about the U version, but if there's a robust single player mode in there, they kept it a very well hidden secret.
