Thats a decent one.
One more pick of a crane or truck and someone is going to get hurt.
Sonic hasn't been number 2 since Sega stopped making consoles.
However, instead of bashing Sonic I will share a nice happy story about him, because once upon a time I was quite a fan of the series and would like to be again.
Probably around 1992 or so my cousin got a Genesis and Sonic for Christmas, and I remember when I saw it the first time it was one of those mind blowing games. The speed was nothing short of amazing. I ended up playing it for 4 hours while all the adults watched football that Christmas day. When we left I stopped by a mirror and noticed my eyes were incredibly bloodshot. I was so enthralled by the game that apparently I wasn't blinking enough. I also got yelled at for getting bloodshot eyes...
Anyway, I'll alwaus be proud to say that Sonic was the first game that did that to me.

In here we (or I) celebrate the history of the industries second most popular mascot. Yes I know Mario is king, I cant argue that but the Sonic games will always be the next best thing. The best part was that they weren't just Mario clones, they were a very different type of platformer, one that did somethings better than the fat plumber.
The Look:
The SNES did have more graphical power to work with but I like the look of Sonic games far more than Mario games. Each level in a Sonic game was totally different from the last. It had the futuristic techno nature look. All the old Sonic games are gorgeous to look at.
The Music:
This one is no contest, Sonic had BY FAR the better music. Lately Sega has gone away from what used to work but back in the Genesis the Sonic games had some of the best music of the era.
Emerald Hill Zone
Scrap Brain Zone
Chemical Plant Zone
Star Light Zone
Flying Battery Zone
Rusty Ruins (Saturn Version)
Sonic 2 ending
Open Your Heart
Sonic and Knucles final boss
Ice Cap Zone - Still my all time favorite and it was composed by Michael Jackson. Did Michael Jackson do any Mario music, NO.
And there is a billion more, some of the finest music in all of gaming.
The Bosses:
The main Mario games have always had simple boss fights that usually have you just bouncing on something three times. Sonic kept the formula but has always had really wild outragous boss battles and a lot more of them. As it went to 3D the battles got larger and larger. Overall Sonic bosses are better than Mario's offerings.
Well crap I gtg, I'll be back to finish this thread up. Leo could probably help.
