The only Rhythm game I love is Rhythm Heaven, but I guess I would probably like Ouenden, I just want to know what they are saying, but its never been translated.
How far did you get in this Steel?
PaRappa the Rapper was a totally awesome game with those catchy tunes. "Punch, kick, it's all in the mind ... ".

Not far. The cart went MIA a while ago. I suspect the dog.

Parappa goes without saying, and I enjoyed the sequel just as much Um Jammer Lammy.
Gitaroo Man for PS2 and now PSP is a good one:
i never had a DDR though, and i always wanted to try that franchise
My son is getting Donkey Konga for Christmas, so soon we'll have a 3 year's impressions of rhythm games.
If DDR is considered a rhythm game then I love that one. I don't play it as much as I used to (because once my body hit 30 it stopped liking the game), but if you get a good song list then it's a good time provided you don't mind looking like an ass. Over the years I've had at least 4 or 5 versions of the game. Good way to get a work out, and it lets me indulge in my secret fantasy of being a Japanese schoolgirl (that's a different personality from Dark Robio for the record).
As far as others in the category go I'm not a huge fan. Primarily because I'm white and I really don't have rhythm so I'm at a natural disadvantage. Oh and just because you're waiting for it, Rhythm Heaven sucks.
They only rhythm games that I have liked are: Ouendan I & II, Elite Beat Agents, and Samba De Amigo (Dreamcast).

I saw the Samba de Amigo for Wii very cheap.
It's a horrible game on the Wii. You want to like it when you play it, but the controls are just miserable. Some of the worst I've ever seen on the Wii.
For whatever reason, it seems to be a genre at which I'm particularly adept. For me, it's kind of like a more productive version of dancing -- it gets you into the music and makes that the focus, as opposed to it being background noise.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobilerobio said:SteelAttack said:

Yeah, they never should have released it without MotionPlus. Samba De Amigo is too awesome for such poor treatment.

Wow, lol. No wonder it was so cheap.

Best . . . Dreamcast . . . controller . . . ever!
It's the only way to play Samba De Amigo. It cost me over $100 back in the day, but it was oh so worth it.

well, the difference is so small. you still have to perform simple actions to the rhythm which come with visual clues except you can't depend on those alone, you have to use the audio clues and the rhythm (so you couldn't play the game without the sound (except a few of the mini games) whereas you could technically play a game like guitar hero or donkey konga with the sound off).
so rhythm heaven is a monkey game as well

You can play most of them without sound.
WTH is the advantage of playing Guitar Hero with the sound off?
Damn monkey game telling me I have to press red. It's QTE to a song.
PaRappa the Rapper.
Kickass game that had it all, likeable protagonist, charismatic foes, weird sense of humor, and amazing songs. The bathroom stage alone is worth the entry price. Would DL in a heartbeat from the PSN store.
Um Jammer Lammy
The spiritual sequel to PaRappa (the actual PS2 sequel sucked ass and balls at the same time, apparently), this time with a guitar player going late for a concert and learning her way through rock styles and guitar effects. It shares the same universe with PaRappa, and even a character or two. Again, the trademarks of the series are here, with an endearing cast, catchy songs and weird-ass humor.
What about you?
