The zaniness of Plants vs. Zombies meets the online modes of Team Fortress, Mass Effect, Gears of War and Call of Duty in Garden Warfare 2. While part One was primarily an online experience, GW2 has been beefed up with over ONE HUNDRED variations of 12 character classes, TONS of collectibles, the ability to play Split Screen and/or with Bots and a FULL-BLOWN SINGLE-PLAYER QUEST MODE in a hub world that somehow harkens back to the days of Diddy Kong Racing. There's so much to do, so much to see and the game oozes SUCH personality... This is probably one of the best FPS games we're going to see this year! YES, it's THAT good!!

**Finally SOMEONE developed a colorful, fun, online shooter that's appropriate for all ages, but can be as hardcore as any other FPS out there!! It's about time!! Wonder what took so long?!**  Nyaa

I'm not doing a full-fledged |OT| on this one, as I expect interest to be kinda low, but I'll transfer stuff over from RoF to here in case anyone is interested... Other than Archie!  Nyaa

____________

For the most part, each character has a set of three skills beyond their normal weapon and they generally have cool down times.

Really just put up that clip so you could see a brief glimpse of the hub world, see some of the characters in the customization booth and a snippet of ‘Vanquished Confirmed.’ The PvsZ version of CoD’s Kill Confirmed mode. There’s 12 characters total. You can customize them with hats and accessories for visual distinction –BUT– you also purchase sticker packs with in-game cash; those sometimes have pieces or complete sets of Hero characters that have variations on the three skills and main weapons… There are Fire variants, Ice variants, Stone Pea-Shooters. The typical fps characters classes (gunners, snipers, healers, tanks) are represented, but the mixable parts and heroes give tons of variations on top of those.

On top of all that, it’s just crazy fun!

Don’t take my performance as a standard for the game; I admit I’m not good at all yet. It’s the kind of game you WANT to play over and over to earn everything, to level up characters… there’s even Garden Warfare versions of Prestige-ing. It really is a full function online shooter!

I can’t even imagine the craziness of a game night with friends with this game!!

I keep on neglecting to mention: You can plant potted plants or zombie defenses that act like turrets or support; even as a shooter, this game still retains some of the elements of the Tower Defense game it came from!

But it's a third person shooter, not a first person shooter. Nyaa

And yet it probably will be the best FPS this year...

Meh. Technicalities! The game modes share more in common with FPS games than third persons. Forgot to mention Killzone as one of the games it plays similarly to.

That technicality is literally the only thing that differentiates the two. Nyaa

While I have Splatoon, this is not needed in my life. Though much respect. The original pre-dated Splatoon.

Neither invented, nor even popularised cute online shooters...

Conker remake on the original Xbox, and the execrable TF2 PS360 port both come immediately to mind. Might be more? Obviously neither of those popularised it, but nor did the first Garden Warfare. Looks fun, though, don't get me wrong. And the Killzone comparison is interesting, Leo.

Team Fortress is squad based FPS, not 3PS.

Conker's was an action platformer (and not online multiplayer).

Not being a jerk here, but I have a hard time coming up with a cutsie 3ps online multiplayer before PVZ Garden Warfare.

GARDEN WARFARE 2 IS GOING TO BRING ROSE DOWN A NOTCH

**Very necessary!**

"If you've spent any amount of time playing Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 online, you undoubtedly see Rose when you close your eyes at night. There she is, way off in the distance, grinning. She knows you can't escape her homing shots. And even if you did, there's never just one Rose. They travel in packs! Players and PopCap agree: she's overpowered."

I seem to remember Conker on the 360 having online multiplayer, so it kind of counts.

Neither of our statements separated TPS and FPS so I was 100% right in mentioning TF2 (console was the only requirement). TF2 also isn't more squady than Splatoon, so I'm not sure what your point is there.

But more importantly: Conker had online third person shooter gameplay on the original Xbox, let alone the 360. Why do you think they called it Live and Reloaded? WinkWink And the online was no more an action platformer than Splatoon's online is. In fact, it was less so (to its detriment). If I remember correctly, it featured both team and normal death match as well as other modes, but it was a long time ago, so I'm not 100% sure on that. Nevertheless, cutesy third person shooter online at the dawn of consoles being online! There's got to be stuff on PC even earlier I just can't recall at the moment...but I've got an ironclad example here, so no need for research.

My favorite mode involves planting Garden Gnome bombs in three of your enemy's locations.

It's the typical, find the bomb, plant the bomb, guard the bomb until it explodes...

...or defend your area and diffuse the bomb should it be planted...

...scenario!

I first encountered this in Killzone 2, I believe, but... I like it a lot!!

Miss those times Yoda and a few of us would play!!

If you get two good teams, the back and forth action of capturing the bomb, losing it, capturing it again... gets to be down-right FRANTIC!

I love playing the healing, support-type Sunflower, so I almost never rank high in these modes, but it's just so much fun!!

I can't believe I am going to say this --but-- I've been waking up for the last few days finding myself devising plans on how to keep my multiplier from degrading or better yet INCREASING it in Garden Warfare 2.

There's a Quest Board in the middle of both the Plant and Zombie HQ's. This board will give specific objectives like: "Vanquish 20 Zombies with any Sunflower's Beam Weapon" or "Achieve Suburbination."

You are awarded coins or stars --and-- boosts to your experience multiplier for doing these!

If you DON'T play on any given day, your multiplier decreases! I don't know if it just goes down one level or resets entirely... but I've yet to miss a day...!  GASP

Never expected to be --THIS-- into the game!!  Grinning
