Out in 4 days in Europe, a few days later in the U.S

Reviews:

IGN: 8.8/10

"Pikmin 3 is a delight. There’s nothing else like its gentle combination of exploration, strategy and discovery, and it made me feel both empathy and responsibility for virtual creatures that most games would treat as disposable fodder. It transported me like few other games can, giving the feeling of being a stranger in a strange (but oddly familiar) world. It's over too soon, but it leaves a lasting impression."

JeuxVideo: 17/20

Eurogamer: 9/10

"What's most striking, though, is that Pikmin still feels like strategy seen with fresh eyes - strategy, perhaps, by designers who were unconcerned with labelling, and just let their ideas lead them where they wanted to go. Just as the Koppai explorers give each lump of fruit they encounter its own name (cantaloupes become Wayward Moons, limes are reborn as Zest Bombs), Nintendo has transformed a genre traditionally concerned with large-scale warfare into a knee-high epic built of scavenging and babysitting. Survival, not domination. Family, not factions."

Gamer.nl: 9/10

NOW Gamer: 9/10

"nd really this is the key point to Pikmin 3. It might be part of a franchise, but it still feels fresh.

Part of that is because there has been very little to match this very unique style of game, but mostly it’s because – unlike Mario – Nintendo hasn’t drained as much as is humanly possible from these walking, squealing plants.

It hasn’t changed all that much from the Gamecube version and yet still Pikmin 3 manages to feel original, and for that reason alone it’s worth your attention.

This is Nintendo. This is what we want to see. Brilliant ideas, well executed. Give Mario and co a well-deserved rest, Nintendo, it's time to let that brilliance shine again."

Vandal: 9/10

EDGE: 8/10

"Familiarity is both the worst and best thing about Pikmin 3. Twelve years after the original and nine after the sequel, little has changed – but little really needed to. It may not sell systems on its own, but it’s a fine addition to a sparse software library that brings one of Nintendo’s most vibrantly characterful series into the HD era and, critically, makes convincing use of the GamePad. And that, pending the arrival of a true system seller, is what Wii U needs most of all."

inthegame: 9/10

Nintendo World Report: 9/10

"Pikmin 3 is absolutely the sequel that everybody has been waiting for and is well worth exploring, whether you are a veteran or newcomer to the series. The gameplay mechanics have been greatly improved and the great ideas of the previous games have been married with new elements that keep you on your toes. Pikmin are still often unresponsive and behave somewhat unpredictably and there is some texture work that could have been improved, but the overall experience stands strong and mighty. And again, the best moments were with a Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk. It must be said that playing the game any other way didn't have the same impact or smoothness in the micro-management. If you are Wii U owner really in search of the next big thing, then you have found it."

Famitsu: 37/40

"The feel of the backgrounds and so on is wonderful and really throw you into the game. You're now switching between three guys as you explore, giving a neat new sense of novelty to the play. The Bingo Battle multiplayer lets you get in the way of your opponent, and while it's just a bonus more than anything else, battles can get pretty heated . . . the puzzles here are a lot deeper than before. In order to carry out your work efficiently, you have to think carefully about how to use the auto-move function and other stuff, and it's a lot of fun."

Another Castle: 4/5

"I said a while back around the Wii U launch that Pikmin 3 was the system seller for me. I bought one a little while ago ready for Pikmin 3, and I’m not disappointed that I did. This is the best game on Wii U and certainly one of the best games released this year, but there are aspects of it that will disappoint fans of the series."

Ok, Ok, you made your point, it's a huge step up from Pikmin2  Nyaa  I still think they should have adjusted how the terrain itself looks though.  Yeah, the textures are a lot sharper, but it's missing some depth, some small foiliage.

Well the close up shots are micro level, the games graphics are made for a top down RTS view. Even the best PC RTS games have low detail terrain when you jam the camera down that close and at an angle.

Those screens look excellent, except for the super shiny, plastic looking watermelon.  This is the ONLY reason for me to pick up the U atm.  Too bad my bank account doesn't agree.

No, it looks worse than Pikmin 2 because Pikmin 2 didn't have lots of really horrible textures (for its day) and other jarring elements that look even more out of place due to the slickness of the other elements. The more I see of this, the worse I think it looks. They should have stuck to their guns and released it for Wii, or started from scratch. Ugh.

I'm debating whether or not to get this. I was never a big Pikmin fan, and ultimately this doesn't seem like it'll be dramatically different than other ones. That being said, the Wii U has sort of spoiled me in the way I play games and I'm just about ready to step back from Ni No Kuni and get back to playing on the Wii U.

Off screen play, the ability to play the game and not be stuck on the couch, and the extremely convenient instant saves on the VC games. Its like adding the conveniences of handheld gaming to a console.

Yeah, that watermelon stuck out for me as well.  As do the shiny and cheaply bumpmapped grubdogs.  Still, I'm a huge Pikmin fan, I'll forgive them for being so plasticky

...I can't believe what Alph, Brittney and Charlie do to Olimar and Louie!

...and that Final Boss! Oof!

I just got back from the Pikmin 3 event. Not a whole lot to say that you haven't already seen or heard already. I only got to play the first level and. . . its classic Pikmin. I stuck with playing with the Wiimote controls and its a natural fit. No real reinvention aside from that but that's fine. It was fun. GameStop has my money and I'll get the game a day early.

Oh and I also have Pikmin patched that can be ironed onto my clothes so I can look like a bad ass. And a New Leaf  sticker for the original sized 3DS. Whee!
