I'm not ashamed to admit that the Wii completely lived up to my expectation with its motion controllerz and that it was the most awesome thing to happen to gaming since analogue control and vibrators. So I'm pretty disappointed that the Wii U seems to be following the PS4 and Xbox One's lead by making motion control available...as a side option. Which means no one's going to fucking use it. What upcoming Nintendo games are going to use it? Mario Kart? What games full stop are using, or going to use it? There's Black Ops II. Does Nintendoland? This is a sad state of affairs.

Save me GG, you're my only hope.

A lot of Nintendo Land games use motion control. Usually it's optional, but it's good optional. Like in the Zelda mini-game you can choose to shoot arrows at targets with the Wii pad or swing a sword with the Wiimote.  Sonic All Star Racing Transformed uses it to steer like Mario Kart did.  And of course.... Just Dance 4.

And one day I'm sure the inevitable Wii Sports U will also use it.

  • Trine 2 uses it well with the magician and archer in particular

You can probably use it for NSMB but there is no reason too with the gamepad. Otherwise not much but motion control isn't dead, the wii U pad has huge magnometers in which are very accurate motion-sensing 'better than Move' but the two handed design will limit things.

You can use it accurately for IR like aiming without any IR, but only Nintendoland does this in Zelda and the Ninja game. It also has superbly sensitive tilt which is used in DK Crash course. I do wish that there were more new Wii remote games, Elebits is bizaare at this point like this one bright point showing how it can change the game and we have seen nothing like that since.

That's so disappointing. Sad It's only now really hitting home for me that them going with the tablet controller means no wii-remote games. That was the only thing that made me really want a Wii U. HD means no interesting middle or low-tier titles, but big titles in HD with motion controls would have almost made up for that. Hasn't happened that way. Such a shame.

Nothing holds a candle to Family Ski on the Wii.  Holding the wiimote and nunchuck in your arms like skiing poles was sheer and utter brilliance.

I think there will be a lot of indie games that use it. Pikmin 3 has it as the primary control scheme so it's not dead yet.

Definitely, but it's not very encouraging. Especially given the history of Kinect and Move/Sixasis.

Oh yeah definetly. I'm happy Wii remotes and motionplus all work on U though, no having to buy new controllers. In shooters having an IR option is mega cool and the same as it was on Wii, but with better graphics.

I'd rather Nintendo had further refined the Wii Remote than to have gone with the U-pad. The console could have been a lot cheaper too.

Yes, I'd prefer Nintendo to be using a traditional controller as default, but the Wii Remote would be a far better option than that U-pad nonsense. Ideally, I want Nintendo to bring back the GCN controller.

I hear you!  The GC pad was just so damn comfortable.  They should have perfected the Wiimote.  It's fine in terms of ergonomics, but they should have made it move-level precise.  I like the pad though.  The WiiU is my number one mobile games console.  I hardly use the telly anymore.

I loved the GCN controller's button layout; that big A-button was awesome. The C-stick and the tiny D-pad kinda sucked, though. But why did Nintendo have to ditch the most comfortable controller design? Their newer classic gamepads absolutely suck in comparison. Why must you always try to "fix" what isn't broken, Nintendo?

Flimsy? Hmm, must be the corded ones, because my Wavebird GCN controller is over a decade old now, and it still works perfectly to this day. Awesome controller.

Flimsy? Hmm, must be the corded ones, because my Wavebird GCN controller is over a decade old now, and it still works perfectly to this day. Awesome controller.

Yeah, I can only comment on the wired ones, but I had buttons start to degrade after only a few months of light use. At least the controllers didn't just die completely like the Xbox S controllers I've had did.

The gamecube pad just "sits" right in my hands.  When I hear the word ergonomic in relation to controllers that is the first feeling that comes to my mind.  The d-pad was useless, the shoulder buttons were too "springy" and had to be pressed in too far, the x and y buttons couldn't really be used for much of anything as they were too small, awkwardly shaped and awkwardly placed, the octagonal housing for the analog sticks instead of a normal circular one was kind of annoying and the yellow stick was too small and hard to use.

So, not by any means a perfect controller but may just have had the perfect shape.  The U pad feels great.  If one could get rid of the touch screen and shrink it while keeping all the buttons and sticks as they are it would make a perfect controller.  Pretty much what edge suggested.  I'm hoping the new classic controller is like that though I haven't seen/used one yet.
