Shovel Knight is amazing. Possibly the best (enhanced) 8-bit game ever made.
SteamWorld Dig was just released on the Wii U. Like Guacamelee its not an exclusive, but if you haven't played it yet consider it a must-own.
NES Remix 1 & 2 are both lot of fun. Two is better but they're both worth owning, and you can unlock an extra feature if you own both.
Child of Light is good, too!
... But I would go with Shovel Knight.
Oh I just realized you were open to 3DS suggestions as well. In that case Shovel Knight and SteamWorld Dig both are still games to get.
If you still haven't gotten around to playing Cave Story that's a pretty epic game. Its very Metroidy with a bit more story. Pretty tough too.
Shantae: Risky's Revenge is an excellent platformer. The sequel to it comes out in just over a month so if you like it you can follow it up with that.
Mutant Mudd's is a good old school 8-bitesque platformed. Nice use of 3-D and really has that old school almost unfair difficulty.
And last but not least Rage of the Gladiator is good. Its like Punch Out except you're fighting warriors and monsters in a collosium, and there's a skill tree to help give you some strategy options as you progress.

Iga should NEVER need help...
I really don't need help, but this thread makes the useless mortals feel somewhat needed. I give them purpose!
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will look into it.
Frontrunners are
Shovel Knight
Steamworld Dig
Guacamelee
Shantea
What about older games on Wiiware and DSi shop? Should I buy some of the classics on those services?

You can't use eShop points to buy WiiWare. You have to buy separate Wii Shop points for those games. Skip it I say. Look into Pictobits and BoxLife if you like DSi puzzle games (which you can buy on the 3DS eShop).

Yeah, like I figured. You want to troll mortals.
We don't have your Wii U ID yet, do we?

Yes you do, I posted it in the MK8 thread. Only Bugsy added me.
Shovel Knight is not out yet in Europe
So the frontrunners are Steamworld Dig and Guacamolee (or however it is spelled)
Robio how is Shantae the original Gameboy Color version?

Not great. It was a great platformer for the time, particularly for the system it was on. Now it will probably feel very dated.
I googled Shantae. the DSiWare sequel, Riskies Revenge, shows some very, ahh... inspiring character design
Also, not sure what's going on with the black scallywageress in the original, but she looks to be topless to me:

That system had Super Mario Bros DX. I had no trouble playing that, so I think I will be fine playing Shantae. BTW I think most new platformers are not as good as the old ones. For example Rayman Origins may have beautiful graphics, but that does not negate the fact that most of the later levels rely on trial and error.
Okay it is done.
Thanks Robio for your feedback. For all the people saying to buy Shovel Knight, I will once it is out in Europe.
Because I had 26 euros, I bought the following
Shantae 5 euros
Shantae Risky Revenge 12 euros
Steamworld Dig 9 euros
That is exactly 26 euros.
The next one the list is Guacamolee, but I have lots to do before I get there!
The Mighty series is good it is made by the same company that made Shantae.
Some examples are: Might Flip Champs!, Mighty Milky Way, Might Switch Force!, and Mighty Switch Force! 2.
Your God and saviour Iga needs your help. I have 26 euro's worth of credit on my eshop account. What indie game(s) shall I buy?! It can be 3DS, it can be a Wii-U game. Can be several smaller or a single bigger game. Can be an indie game that lauched years ago, can be a new one.
I have kinda neglected the digital space, so I do not know where to start. Mortals be useful for once!
Yours one and only,
