Okay, it is done I have finished but Shantae games.

The first Shantea is a good game, but there are some issue. It is difficult, but sometimes the difficulty is uneven. Like how many small normal enemies can kill you if you are not careful. Also the level design leaves a lot to be desired. It is Metroid-like in design, meaning there is one big interconnecting overworld, but it also has Zelda like dungeons and towns. But the level design itself is kinda like a 2d platformer, going left to right. Not like Metroid where it goes left to right, up to down and all other directions. In this game you go to the left, finish a dungeon and then go to the right, backtrack to other areas and finish another dungeon. You can warp, but only to towns. The way magic works is also a point of criticism. You need to buy magic in a shop and after you use it up, you have to return and buy some more. Also activating it by pushing up and attack at the same time is not intuitive, but I blame that on the GBC lack of buttons. The dungeons are great though and the transformations are also cool. I did finish it 100%, so I did like it. But there where some issues.

Risky's Revenge is so much smoother experience. It just flat out controls better, magic has a magic bar you can refill, it is not as punishing and the level design is just simply better. But the game is so much smaller in scope. In the original you had 4 dungeons, 5 towns, lots of different environments environments and more transformations. The dancing was also better in the original and the Shantea sprite was cuter and had more character. But this games was a dsi donwloadable title, so the lack of scope is understandable. Like the original I also completed this one 100%.

So in short, I am a Shantae fan right now!

So Robio, how is the new one?

I still need to buy one of these. The smaller scope of the second kind of puts me off.

I couldn't tell you. I've been a little put off by the $20 price tag. I'm sure it's worth it, and god knows the critics have mostly agreed its the best in the series. But as it stands, I've got a pretty big backlog - 5 games. I know that's probably nothing to some of you, but since I usually have no more than 2, the idea of having 5 games that I've not gotten to is ludicrious to me. Should it go on sale though, I'll scoop up the Wii U version.
