And are you as excited about gaming's future as you were last generation?

Honestly I'm so unable to keep up with the present in gaming that I barely think about its future.  I can't play everything I want to on one system.  Concerning myself with where things are heading is about rewarding as pondering advanced physics in my book.

I can't say I'm very enthousiastic about gaming these days.  Huge high budget games getting all the coverage, releasing riddled with glitches and bursting with microtransactions...  It doesn't bode well for the future.  I guess indies are a saving grace, diversifying the catalogue and doing more unusual things, touching on less common subjects.  I typically don't really like indie games however.  But it seems that indie games themselves are evolving and starting to fill the void left by the disappearing of mid-tier games.

So yeah, I don't know.  Gaming seems to have lost it's direction.  Perhaps this just is 'it', and we won't be going anywhere interesting in the near future anymore.  After all, with modern technology the only limits seem to be the designers' imagination.  Streaming services won't really change gaming, only how we're charged through the nose for it, with Sony and MS already paving the way with their PS+ and games for gold service.  VR will remain niche ...

The older I get the less enthusiastic I am as a person on the whole so I'm not sure if my lack of enthusiasm is due to the state of gaming or due to my becoming more jaded.

If I had a PS4 there would be a total of two games I'd have definitely bought (which aren't PS3 remasters) and none that I'd be looking forward to.  But I have a gigantic backlog so it will be a long time before I have to start worrying about being out of games to play.

It gets tougher as you get older to hold on to the child inside. Partly because society tries to rip the child from you as if its a bad thing.

Ditto.

I also find completely passive entertainment easier. Anime for instance. I don't see a clear compelling vision for the future of gaming but I've yet to try VR. If there is something epically immersive I might love it but Vr porn will probably pump it. Trump it.... I mean.

I was actually asking two questions, most didn't answer the first - thoughts? Wii U is slowly dying, I think I may give up on handhelds and even if I owned a ps4, like bugs there isn't much that interests me. IMO gaming has become dominated by 3 big publishers and most of their content feels too samey to me. Unlike most of you I've never really liked a single Bioware game I've played either. Without a new Endless Ocean gaming is a barren wasteland for me. The vague promise of a new Zelda and slow drip feed of information is off putting right now too. Fuck it.

Even the gaming news is boring me right now.

I'm much the same.  Not sure if I will give up handhelds, I probably should as I have been having problems with my arms.  I bought a Vita and I often forget that I did.  Haven't bought a single game for it, not one.  I still enjoy the DS/3DS even though I have played very little of them over the last year or two.

This generation is by far the worst for me in terms of what has been exciting me or what I am looking forward to.  Nintendo almost wins it by default for me when it comes to most content I am interested in but even they are pissing me off so much of the time.  They should be making Zelda, Metroid Prime, Wave Rave, F-Zero, and more for the U.  Hell with Yakuza 5 releasing in November PS3 could be console of the year 2015!!

Sure, there's more variety than ever across all possible gaming options. Big games, small games, really small games. You name it. And they're available in more platforms than ever before.

I think it is possible. There are still games I'm interested in on other systems but I need to wait for them to get cheaper. I might end up one of those gamers that purchase a system when the next Gen starts I would purchase a last Gen system. The only systems I feel compelled to purchase during the current generation are Nintendo consoles.

I used to always have 2 consoles in a generation starting with the Genesis and SNES.

SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:

  • SMB Mix-Up! (1AB2-0000-0047-5A7D)
  • Storm the Castle (77BD-0000-00E0-A9C0)

No different. This gen is another polished shitfest, but made interesting with the odd indie game instead of the odd Wii game.

The future will be the same shit for the next ten years, except that dudes streaming on YouTube will be wearing headsets.
