I just finished Split Fiction and yeah, what an amazing game this is. It has left me in awe as we moved from one crazy gameplay scenario to another. My son and I were constantly commenting on how amazing each new area was. If you think you've been gaming for thirty plus years and there is nothing new under the sun, this game will prove you wrong. The final boss/area threw stuff at us that I've never experienced before in a videogame. This is easily my goty so far.
Play this game. Find a buddy and play.

Plan to later this year, but I have to play it takes two first.
I just finished the main story of Donkey Kong Bananza. What a fun platformer with some cool later game surprises. I couldn't have been happier with how this turned out. Part Banjo, part DK64, part Mario Odyssey. Great fun.

My son wants to play this with me as well, but I'm waiting for a sale to pick it up on Switch2.
Advance Wars Reboot /Second game- 30/07 - Switch - 8.9/10
I beat the second game yesterday. It's as much fun as the original. It only adds one new unit, but lets you play as all the factions from the first game, which is neat. Downside is that you're battling the Black Hole army in all missions, whose designs aren't all that great. A new tear of commander super powers is added, which makes some commanders actually less usefull, while others become truely overpowered. I was going to score it less that the original as what it adds kind of muddles the clean vision of the original, as is often the case with sequels, but what the heck, it's just too darn much fun to score it an 8, so I'll give it an 8.9.
Updated with two games. I finished Cult months ago, but haven't been near enough a PC to update this thread. XenoBlade Chronicles 3... is probably the reason I haven't been near a PC in months or much of anything else for that matter. I started the game in May, finished it in August. Nearly 200 hours worth of gameplay, and every minute was worth it! Such a memorable cast, and every one of the characters has multiple moments to shine. If this game doesn't move you emotionally, you are dead inside. I can't say enough about it! If you want something to sink your teeth into for a while, this is it! I will play the Future Redeemed DLC too, I just needed a break to do other and play other things!

I logged in all these months later to say those are hot garbage too.
Anyway, that was an excellent card game. I get why it works on any platform, but that might be one of the most perfect mobile games I've ever played.
Donkey Kong Bananza - 21/08 - Switch2 - 8/10
Well. That certainly was something. Even after collecting 400 something banana's I'm still not sure where I stand on the game. Smashing stuff is incredibly moreish, the level design is often great, there's plenty of novel gameplay ideas, ... But it still all seems as much a tech demo as it is a final product. The beginning of the game is great, when everything is still new, then it muddles on a bit through the middle where some levels are overlong and picks up again when you near the end. I wish more of it tapped into the classic DKC graphical style because the only thing that makes it clear this is a DK game is the fact that you're looking at DK's bum the whole time while playing it. This could just as easily be any other, or even a new, IP.
Played some games this summer after a hiatus from gaming for some time (three years maybe more):
01. Metroid Dread. (Switch)
I loved this. Though it made me realise how poor my gaming skills now are. I died countless times during the stealth sections and trying to kill the monitor robots. I couldn't beat the final boss until I watched a youtube video.
02. Nemesis/Gradius (Game Boy)
I have a fondness for space shooters since my misspent youth in the arcades. In recent years I have liked them more in theory than in practice since my reflexes and skills dampened. Space shooters on the original game boy are slower and less crowded/busy, which makes them tailor-made for me. I loved this and got quite good at it. Beat normal mode followed by hard mode without continuing or increasing the number of initial lives from 3.
03. Solar Striker (Game Boy)
Having enjoyed Nemesis, I looked for more Game Boy shooters to play. Apparently this is a Nintendo published shooter directed by Gunpei Yokoi. It's kind of basic but that is probably a good thing for me at this point. Enjoyed it thoroughly and got reasonably good at it. Can one credit finish it most times now.
04. Sagaia (Game Boy)
Another Game Boy shooter. Apparently this is a Darius games. I knew this was one of the famous historic space shooter franchises but I had never played one before. Apparently all the bosses are robotic "sea creatures". This was a little too hard for me. I did finish it eventually but I had to give myself maximum lives (9).
05. Balloon Kid (Game Boy)
I remembered this as one of my favourite games on the Game Boy, and thought I missed it and wanted to play it again. It's actually pretty bad. Still though ... finished game.
But it's also pretty easy, and pretty bland. For all of the different character classes you can choose for your characters, they don't really feel that different until you reach the end game. If you ever get around to it, make sure you play on hard from the beginning. Barring a few spots, I don't think I died until the end game when you have to endure a very lazily put together Boss Rush.
Yeah the final boss fight in Tears of the Kingdom was pretty awesome.
