I have to wait until Friday for it to be released in Europe and then I'll have to wait for another several days (could be anything up to 2-3 weeks) for it to arrive from the UK.  I may have to bite the bullet and pay the 80 odd euros the shop here will be charging, and that is if they even stock it.

Sad bugsie is sad to have to wait for so much longer Sad

Vader do you know if multiplayer will be open across all regions or whether it'll be region specific?

I would pay to watch GG play this game. The fear of death is so huge. The only other games to really freak me out like this were the RE games cause of all the progress you will lose if you didnt save properly. Well here its the bloodstain that will go away if you die before reaching it.

Dark Souls face off from Digital Foundry

"Neither the 360 or PS3 version can definitively claim to have an absolute edge here, with Sony's machine taking volumetric effects in its stride, and Microsoft's handling destructible elements more convincingly. These are minor quibbles compared to the performance hit both consoles take in the face of particle effects and multiple enemies, however."

You know when you are in a closed room and fog or gas comes into it? Like in the first few rooms in Metroid Prime 2

Leo Thing

One of the special things granted to the four knights of Gwyn. The Leo Thing belonged to Leo the Bumlayer. This thing strengthens counters with penetrating weapons.

Leo's girthy spear is said to have cracked a man's ass in two.

This game is incredible. The game world is one of the best I have ever experienced. There are secrets all over, its all interconnected like a Metroidvania game. As you explore an area you open shortcuts to previous areas so everything becomes easy to get to, there is NO warp and yet its easy to get around. The things you see, the places you go are incredible, this game easily has some of the best art design this gen. I really really hope the next Castlevania game is like this, it needs a huge open interconnected world to explore, I would love to see Dark Souls as a super fast paced action game and that is what CV could do.

For those that never played the game let me explain how it works. The world is open and there are bonfires scattered around the world, these act as your spawn points and its where you can do maintainance. As you kill enemies you get souls, you use these to level up, buy items, upgrade weapons, basically everything. Now when you die you lose all the souls you gained and you return to the last bonfire you lit. A bloodstain will appear in the world in the spot you died, if you can make it back to your bloodstain before you die you can recover all the souls you lost. So its best to use the souls as quick as you can as you dont want to lose them but you can only use them at a bonfire and everytime you use the bonfire you respawn all the regular enemies in the level.

This creates all kinds of tension as you are always in fear of progressing so far with too many souls cause if you die, the trek back will be hell, everyone you killed is back. Also if you dont want to kill everyone again you cant use the souls, so it becomes a question of if you want to progress and chance that you may die before reaching the next bonfire or go back use the souls but start all over with the enemies respawned. The health systen also adds to this bonfire system as everytime you stay at a bonfire you refill flasks which serve as your health potions. At first you only get 5, if you use them up you can only refill them by going to a bonfire, thus respawning everyone that just knocked out your life. As you play you can spend humanity to get 10 flasks at the bonefire you use it at, still the refilling method remains.

So thats basically how it works, it creates a sort of tension most games dont have. The good thing about this one is that when you die and become "hollowed" you dont lose half your life like the first game. But this game has the limited health items where in the first game you can buy a ton of them and never really run out. I like this new method better, it rewards careful play.

I got stuck at the Gargoyle at the top of the Undead Parish and took a day off from the game.

I am playing Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny in the meantime.

I put Disgaea on hold to play Dark Souls to begin with.

I was just having a discussion with a GameStop manager about my playing habits; he commented just how extreme my tastes are. I bought Kirby Mass Attack the same day as Gears of War 3. I am playing a cuddly, JRPG-ish, farming/relationship sim at the same time as Dark Souls. Talk about one extreme to the other!

On a side note: It's amazing how much info GameStop keeps about your purchase and pre-order history! Once you join their PowerUp rewards, it seems anyone in any store can see the games you've ordered, traded or even purchased! Don't know how I feel about that!

I think that is awesome and it's also very much how I enjoy my gaming.  A fun game is a fun game regardless of how it gets dressed up.  Truly fun gameplay will shine through.  If I want to play a gory shooter or slasher I'll do that.  If I want to play a fluffy, cuddly game like kirby then that's what i'll do.

Who do you think will have died the most by the end here?

Can we place bets?

Probably me. I've died an inhumane number of times against the knight with the club who holds the Havel ring and against the Capra demon. Right now I'm working on the Great Wolf Sif who is giving me a run for my money.

Does it have statistics showing stuff like how many enemies you've killed and how many times you'e died? Would love to see what the ratios are like.
