I've never really understood why you don't like Excitebots. Virtually every review I've seen has liked it a lot. 8/10s and some even higher. They all say its better than Excitetruck and there are some which do compare it to mario kart. It's got a universally positive reception. I'm not that interested because I'm happy with Mario Kart and I don't tend to buy many racers per generation anyway.

It's simple: Trucks >>> lame animal/bug bots. They also made it way too silly for my taste.
