I just downloaded Puzzles and Dragons, to see what millions of Japanese people are enthralled with... and I do not fucking get it. Not even a tiny bit. Even taking Mario onto it, this game is going to tank in North America.

I thought it was some kind of match 3 - RPG crossover like Puzzle Quest and I was considering buying it on the 3DS. I take it it's not like that at all?

Vader loved it right?

I downloaded the demo and cannot wait for the 22nd... It's exactly like Puzzle Quest...
Ummm... Rob... did you do the tutorial and BOTH the Beginner and Expert courses? Unless you just don't like puzzle games, I can't see --NOT-- being enthralled by it...
This is only a tiny snippet of the Mario mode. There's an entire other game on there too in the Puzzle and Dragon world. It's a match three puzzle game, but you also capture, combine and level up monsters to be on your team. You barely see that in the demo.
Not saying you're wrong. Your opinion can't be wrong, but I suggest, if anyone else has any interest, try the demo for yourself, because I got an entirely different impression.

No it is, and that's sort of what confuses me. We've seen this kind of game a dozen different ways before. It's fine for what it is, it just seems odd that they want a full retail price for it. It's like when Rovio tried to charged $30 for Angry Birds after it was free for years. Why spend money on this when a perfectly good version of it is free?
And Leo to answer your question I only played the the tutorial, so I haven't tackled the harder difficulty. It could potentially get better. It was rather easy to the point where I could have had the cat play it, and do almost as well.
The Demo --HAS-- a harder difficulty with Ghost Mario/Luigi or Ice Mario/Luigi. I just died a few times trying to beat it...!
There's TWO full games in the retail version: One is Puzzle and Dragons Z, the other is Puzzle and Dragon Super Mario Bros. Edition. I'd say that's a fairly good value for $30, but, then again, I've never played the free one.
Is the Mario edition just a re-skin, like playing chess with Mushroom Kingdom characters or is it different enough to make it its own game?
I was so hooked on Puzzle Quest I spent hours. But then I didn't feel excited enough to buy Galactrix or PQ2. I will try the demo I guess to see if I'm ready to get back into it.
They don't let you try Puzzle and Dragon Z in the demo, so I'm not sure. I believe the Mario Edition is simpler, but just take a look at this:

I don't think it would make sense if Mario could hatch eggs, combine mushroom kingdom monsters and evolve them, so I think it's just a simpler Bonus Mode...
...although you DO have to free 8 Worlds to win...
...but the main Puzzle and Dragons Z game looks soooo good, I'll play the Mario Edition, but I'm not buying it for that!
Mario Edition could be it's own game, but with less features than the main game, is what I am trying to say.
It alone would not be worth $30. That would be a good e-shop game.
Puzzle and Dragons Z + Mario Edition to me is worth it. I would have paid for Z alone. I ---LOVED--- Puzzle Quest!
Haven't been online on the 3DS in donkey's years so now it's doing a seemingly massive update! Will download it as soon as I can get to the eshop
Leo why you so bad!
Downloading demo now. Also noticed that SMTIV is on sale on the eshop so methinks it's ripe time to download that since it's never going to get a boxed release in Europe.
Meanwhile ... back to MK8!!
OK, I played the demo for about 20 minutes. Is the demo just the Mario game? I beat the easy level without trying or having any idea what I was doing but I can't beat the normal level after several times of trying (I got to the fire and ice koopa bros pair with my last attempt). On the surface it's just like Puzzle Quest but at the same time the fact that you move the things basically anywhere makes the strategy much more complex and at the moment it's kind of hurting my mind. It's very interesting, makes me want to learn how to play it properly
Cancelled Splatoon. Reserve the right to change my mind about this again come September, but I don't need to spend 40 euros on this now.
Ordered Code Named S.T.E.A.M. SWYDTML?
Still on the fence about Puzzles and Dragons. Will have to play the demo some more and wait on a few more reviews
I just bought Resident Evil Revelations 2
And I also preordered Mighty No 9
Metal Gear Solid 5
Xenoblade X
Halo 5
And The Witcher 3
The criticisms of MGS2 are so stupid. It's too ridiculous? So it's the epitome of the MGS-style, then? Good. It doesn't star Snake? Let's see Snake pull of an entire stealth section nude.
