Is Ang Lee Directing Vin Diesel in Kojak?
Has there ever been a good remake of an Asian film with the possible exception of The Departed (and that is up for debate)?
There are lots of great remakes of Asian films, but they're almost always directed by Asians.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!!!
Off the top of my head, A Fist Full of Dollars was a better movie than Yojimbo. And ummmm.... there ya go.

Star Wars.
Inception.
I think Star Wars was a semi-remake of a couple of Japanese films Lucas was obssesed with, the Hidden Fortress being one, you can see the droids as beggars, Darth Vader is the evil helmet guy. You obviously get the Leia princess stuff.
And the Seven Samurai? Also wasn't that remade as the Magnificent 7?
To me Inception "borrows" so heavily from Paprika and Millenium Actress as to virtually be covers.Yeah, there's actually a few great Westerns that would qualify if you think about it.
Top 10 Asian Remakes
IGN rates Hollywood's best and worst takes on Asian cinema:With the Nicolas Cage action flick Bangkok Dangerous opening Friday, and Mirrors still in theaters, IGN Movies has decided to rank Hollywood's five best and five worst remakes of Asian films. Just as American television continues to mine British TV programs for inspiration, Hollywood studios have been turning to Asian cinema for years to fill their slates with recognizable titles (mostly of horror films).
American studios' thirst for remaking Asian films goes back decades, starting with the works of Akira Kurosawa. The Seven Samurai beget The Magnificent Seven, Rashomon was remade as The Outrage. Nowadays the trend is towards remaking horror films, such as Shutter, Pulse, Dark Water, and The Eye. Then there are the U.S. movies you didn't even realize were remakes of Asian films, such as Eight Below.
Hollywood's not done with remaking Asian movies yet. There are several high-profile remakes currently in-development, including Seven Samurai, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, and The Chaser, which has screenwriter William Monahan and star Leonardo DiCaprio attached. Monahan and DiCaprio previously teamed for the Oscar-winning The Departed, which was, yes, a remake of an Asian movie.
WTF? The Chaser? I look forward to the brutal pummeling a man to death scene at the end.
Godzilla, I liked. Fistful of dollars was Yojimbo.
The Highest Grossing American Remakes Of Asian Films (Accompanied By The Original Asian Film)

Paul Walker from Fast and the Furious died, in a car accident. Damn irony. Poor guy, I cant believe he was 40. Not the best actor but definetly found his niche with Fast and Furious, I love the last few.
This sucks. I loved him, along with Steve Zahn in Joyride. What an underrated movie that was.
Warner Bros. were looking at movie treatments for the likes of Suicide Squad, Booster Gold, Deathstroke, Team 7 and more.
Well, it looks like this will be DC Entertainment’s big news for 2014.
A series of lower-prominence comic books being turned into relatively lower budget movies.
Suicide Squad is one specifically mentioned as only needing a $40 million budget, pre-marketing. Some could be made for as little as $20 million.
Blame the Bourne films.
