I would not mind a new handeled, my DSlite is dead, so if there is a new nintendo handeled with retro-compatibility I would buy it.
- Nintendo would be the first to make the jump, mostly because they will run out of potential customers first due to their success with the Wii. They have always used a new handheld as a revenue bridge to get them through the new console ramp up, so if the 3DS comes out in March 2011, that puts them up for a new console (at the earliest) for November 2011. Will they do that? Who knows.
- The only reason to hope and pray that the Natal will be a success is that it will keep Microsoft from jumping to the next generation.
- Sony is praying this generation will last another 5 years. They are just hitting their stride and they need more time to bring down the manufacturing costs of the PS3. They also need to attend to the PSP2.
I'm like everyone else here. i hope to get a lot more mileage out of my current hardware. don't need to have to buy new consoles anytime soon. will probably be buying the new nintendo handheld upon launch since i was psychologically preparing to get a DSi anyway (which i've put off since the 3DS announcement)
personally i don't feel games would have all that much to benefit from more graphical and processing power. i think if new consoles come soon, the gap between them and the current gen will be even smaller and harder to notice than during the previous changeover. of course i'm saying that from the point of view of someone who still doesn't have an HDTV set and who still thinks SNES games look amazing
Honestly I don't care. I think this may be the final generation that I buy a console for myself. My son has clearly inherited my interest in video games, so I'm sure at some point once he's old enough I will buy a console for him, but I think I may be done.
I looked at the time I spent on the Wii this year and for the first 3 months of the year it's at a whopping 30 hours. It's not for lack of games as I have plenty and in the fact the biggest backlog of my life. I just don't have the time or interest to sit in front of a TV and play anymore. Handhelds aren't watered down console games anymore, and let me play whenever and wherever I want. That really seems to be exactly what I want now.
I don't mind new consoles as long as they are backwards compatible and reasonably priced.
I tend to wait for price drops on anything too expensive anyway. If a new console launches now then in a year when the price drops it will be right price and the right time for me.
I always look forward to new consoles arriving even though I'm still thoroughly impressed with a lot of the new games coming out these days.
Listen to Iced Earth and play Doom

Why is your sig the size of Leo's penis?

Until the next Doom is declared a console exclusive?

Huh?

It was tiny before and now suddenly it's erected to full size? WTF is going on?
It was like 2cm a couple of minutes ago.

No idea. It looks fine to me. Must've been some kind of glitch.

There is no where for the HD systems to go. GoW3 is like the best looking game ever, we don't need new consoles if our current one can do that. There is no tech out there that makes us need new consoles.
Then again I've said that before every gen, and it never seems to wokr out that way.

Let me break it down for you.
"Meh, don't really care either way. (I would not mind if a new generation of video game consoles was to begin now, nor would I mind if it did not.) I'll jsut ignroe the new consoles if they come out now and work on catching up with Wii games. (If a new gen was to begin, I would not buy a new console or any of the new consoles' games, and instead catch up on the ridiculous amount of Wii games that have come out recently.)
Then again I've said that before every gen, and it never seems to wokr out that way. (However, this has been my philosophy before the beginning of most generations of new consoles, and it has been a philosophy I have not yet followed successfully.)

You're looking at games from a graphical hardware perspective. What about hardware that changes the experience? For instance before you heard about the 3DS you probably never wanted a 3d handheld.
Before Wii was announced you probably never wanted a motion or IR controller. Before DS you probably never envisioned a touch screen for gaming. What if one of the big three comes up with something compelling enough to change up the experience and become the next big thing? Just because we can't imagine it, doesn't mean that Willy Wonka can't.
There's nowhere for HD systems to go? Take me to the Holodeck already.
Not yet. I'm not even looking forward to the anticipation and speculation that surrounds the first official announcement. I'm having way too much fun with quality titles left and right in all systems, while occasionally indulging in some PS2/GC action.
But maybe others here have had enough already of this generation?
