And where are all the juicy impressions at? Steel, you called it on this game like no one did. I thought you would be all over this game.
This is one of the highest rated games this year, I thought that more people here would have bought it by now. Unless you don't like westerns like me and Leo, there's not much excuse. It's GTA and people love sandbox. I want impressions now.
I chose Episodes of Liberty City, I guess I chose wrong. Oops. I will get this eventually.
You chose that over Red Steel 2. So that makes you a DOUBLE penis.
SteelAttack said:I'll pick it up later down the road. My backlog is insane as it is and my gaming time is already scarce for me to keep adding new games to that pile. My highlights in gaming this year will be ME2 (already bought and beaten), RDR and StarCraft 2. The last two of them will be eventually picked up, just not now. No game is worth of getting NOW at any cost. None.
WTF man the only reason I was tracking this game at all was because of you!

He doesn't need to play the game: he lives the life!
We need to get the zombie pack and have a zombie bashing game night.

Yeah, I know!
Anybody spots this for £15 availible in the UK let me know. That's like $30
I bought it for £20, I thought that was fair. Should be down to about £15 soon I think. It's managed to have a pretty good run at full-price.
And now I have finally come full circle. I will be updating this thread with my impressions as I progress through the game.
I have spent a good chunk of today playing this jewel of a game. It's awesome. Ever since playing ME2 at the beginning of the year, I don't remember being so utterly amazed by a game. The sights, the sounds, the music, oh god the environments, the lighting, the myriad little things to do and see. Watching the sunset light hit a cliff, changing its color as you prepare to camp, spending the night outside, tracking down a wanted criminal, under the starry sky.
I have spent a good two hours of today just playing Texas Hold'em. This might be the defining moment of this gaming generation for me.
I started it as well yesterday but I fell asleep (controller-in-hand) as I was following the old guy on the horse just after the intro cinematic. Not the fault of the game though, I'd had a very late night on Friday at a party and I'd already been playing Alan Wake for many hours so I was bound to doze off.
I look forward to making a proper start on the game today.
And ... Happy Birthday brother Steel
A few hours in, closing in the 15 hour mark. I'm at about 25 percent of the game completed. I like riding everywhere, because there's always something going on in the wild.
Writing is good, characters are well made, they're all cliche, but they're wonderfully done. Dead eye never gets old.
Holy shit and when I thought the game was perfect as it is, I just arrived to Mexico and it fucking blew me away.
I'm gonna arrange an Undead or regular multiplayer game by the end of the week for us. I probably need to do it Thursday or Saturday night. On Friday, I'll be watching True Grit.
Of course, not everything is gravy. There are some bad things in here. Some of them are poor design choices. Such as having outlaws keep respawning when you are bounty hunting. Say you just defeated a pack of outlaws, and managed to wound the leader and tie him. Then you have to get the outlaw back to whatever town had the "wanted" poster to collect the money. The thing is, bad guys keep respawning from who knows where until you actually get back to said town. It's not only annoying, it makes no fucking sense at all. So you had to track down the guy from one edge of the map to another? Tough shit. You have to ride your ass all the way back while fending off infinitely respawning outlaws, risking your life, or the life of your prisoner, which is vulnerable to stray bullets. If he dies, you can only collect half the money. If you die, you have to restart the thing from scratch. Whoop-dee-fucking-doo.
Another low point is the poor VA in Mexico. You would think for a game that has one third of its story taking place in fucking Mexico, a company as big as Rockstar would try to get some decent VA. Actually, VA quality in the mexican side of the game is all over the place, going from somewhat passable (the drunks at the beginning in Chuparosa, a few soldiers, or De Santa, which, btw, is not a mexican surname at all) to outright hideous (Coronel Allende, the whores, De Santa in some points). I don't know if mexican VA was too expensive or difficult to work with, but from what I can hear, there are two kinds of spanish speaking voice actors in this game: central or south american actors (colombian or chilean maybe), and english speaking actors with spanish as their second language. Neither of those groups does an especially convincing rendition.
