So what are you guys playing on this most Christmasy of days?

I'm all in on Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. Far better than I hoped. It's amazing.

Been playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition for the PS4 lately. Just finished the first game yesterday and started up the second.

Also played some Uncharted 4 Remastered and boy do those characters look and emote great in cutscenes.

Playing the Book of unwritten tales 2.

It's a great point and click game but certainly flawed. It frequently pushes me out of my comfort zone when it comes to its solutions.

Theres a bit where I select to swing to cage but it doesn't work. It doesn't work if you click it twice.

So you spend 10 mins doing everything else. Turns out it wanted you to click swing and try and build momentum. But frequently the game has the camera zoomed too far out to view these visual feedback. Same thing for a hand sign you have to learn but the camera is too far back for you to see.

The main problem is there is virtually no audio spoken feedback for the things you're supposed to do. If the character had said "almost" when I tried to swing it let's me know that I'm on the right track. Instead it dead ends me.

Cardinal sin in point and clicks, you shouldn't have to click several times the same object in a row for a way forward to be found.

If I click it once and nothing happens its out of my mind. Other games like the new Broken sword or Ace Attorney Chronicles put a tick symbol at stuff that you've checked which is now irrelevant.

But just when I'm getting annoyed in this game, if pulls of a hilarious bit. Just had an A Team reference.

I remember my local Kmart had a playable Atari 2600 demo station similar to that. The system was fully playable and it had four or five carts attached to chains. You could play any of those games.

FYI I just showed this to my son and now I'm trying to convince him that people used to dress up in nice clothes whenever they shopped at Walmart or Kmart.

My cat had a massive clump of shit stuck to his butt.

I cut it off and wiped it, which was a struggle. Now the cat insists on sitting right between my legs to clean it off himself.

I have to sit like a crab leg moron trying to avoid touching it.

There's no avoiding the smell 😐

This is getting ridiculous.

Stuck again in The Book of unwritten tales 2 because the camera is zoomed so far out.

I'm supposed to dress a rat like another rat. Yet I had no idea what the rat in question looked like, because he's about 1.5cm tall on a 50 inch TV 😐

Cluttered 3D backgrounds don't really work well in point and click games. Needs a Resident evil style item shine.

Despite its fickle nature, the game has really made this Christmas feel more Christmasy.

Theres a magical town covered in snow, cheery music with bells. Gnomes, wizards, talking rats, two headed trolls, glowing lanterns etc.

Got two great looking games in the sale.

Aspire Inas tale, it's a bit like Gris, but the art is so colourful it looks great on the OLED.

Clan O' Connel is like Guacamelle, only with lush celtic environments.

The more I play on the OLED the more games I'm finding that look best on it. Especially impressive given the resolution drop.

The warmer colours of fantasy games for instance enhances the atmosphere.

I wonder if it's a 1080P on giant TV issue? I don't remember an issue like that playing on a monitor.

My theory is that older point and clicks developed were for pc desktops where you typically sit much closer to the screen.

But the pre-rendered backgrounds are always an issue in point and clicks because you can't easily tell what's useful or not.

The game has a hot-spot indicator but for stuff like learning hand signals or seeing how a rat is dressed its impossible.

Game really needs more verbal feedback. I kept trying to stick a poster on a chair. But it had no glue on. You had to wait for the exact moment to take one with troll spit on it.

If the character has simply said "it needs glue" or something it would make life so much easier. This is borderline Grim Fandango difficult at times only not as obtuse.

Had to come and post about Huntdown.

Trailer: https://youtu.be/2tbZ_5RVINA
Huntdown_FullGame_Screenshot2.jpg?w=940

I had no idea how much I would love this game.

If you love 80s and 90s action movies, this is like one of the best arcade games I've played outside of Final Fight and Street Fighter 2.

I'm in the last gang land at the moment, there's rain lashing down, lightning sparking in the background. Synth music that sounds like it was actually made in the 80s. I'm playing as an android in a Trench Coat. You start each level screeching in, driving a futuristic Lamborgini, cutting through bad guys.

The weapons are awesome, enemies explode in beautiful bloody, pixelated chunks.

The main characters are throwing out one liners, some of which come from famous movies.

The bosses are some of the best I've played in any arcade game. They really push you to the limit of what's possible without being overly unfair.

The atmosphere is like two crude dudes meets Running Man/Blade runner/RoboCop.

There's tons of great voice acting. There's literally nothing about the game I don't like. In fact I've invited a friend over to play it together. It's that good. 😁

I bought Yooka-Laylee on Switch today for $4 today. I should not have waited so long as it's a very charming and enjoyable game so far.
