Somewhere around here AC expressed his unenthusiasm for a "all-in-one" DX.

Add me to that list.

As someone who does not live in an urban city, and does not ever have to "wait" for anything, portable gaming has no appeal (though it was in my past).

I just want a solid SNES/ N64/ Gamecube console experience that has all the third party games I want, plus Nintendo first party.

I know that is not going to happen, and that my future is likely to be a Nintendo+ PC/Sony experience, but that is the dream.  I don't want them to compromise the home system just because kids play iPad rather than dedicated portable, and no longer need a dedicated home console.

Give up on the kids anyway Nintendo, all they want is Minecraft that is easily streamed to YouTube.  That is the the mystopian future: a Microsoft owned game streaming to a Google owned platform to feed the insatiable narcissism of millenials.

Dual Squelcher.

I said I only used it after the first nerf (which is technically untrue, I had a few games pre-nerf with it, but most of my time using it was post-nerf. Pre-nerf was when I first started, and even as a noob I dominated with it lol). It's one hit kill, shoots through walls, travels really quickly and doesn't require much accuracy. Whenever it does activate it's a guaranteed few kills like the Kraken unless your accuracy is awful, and it's more versatile than the Kraken because of its range. How is it bad for close range? It's great for close, short and long range. The only reason I didn't always use it is that I didn't like a lot of weapons it was attached to, and the only way it's less OP than the Kraken is because the Kraken requires virtually no skill to use at all (you don't have to aim the Kraken), and is attached to such noobish weapons.

I disagree with almost all of this post. It really depends on the level. It's appalling for close range unless you're in a part of a level with the enemy confined to a small place. Also you do need to aim with the Krakken and you can avoid it. In fact people have become adept at avoiding it unless they don't see it coming. They can swim away as fast if not faster than you can Krakken at. Typing this on the u gamepad restricts how much i'm bothered to write, inkzooka certainly isn't a guaranteed kill fest at all, in fact sometimes it's a complete waste in a match.. Other specials have guaranteed positive effects, inkstrike, bubble shield, krakken etc. Inkzooka often does nothing and half the time gets you killed. And it takes longer to charge vs anything else.

How is it bad for close range (the delay might make it so, but I haven't played the game since the last update)? It's an instant kill shotgun. Even if people can escape from the kraken, you're invincible for long enough to run away if you're in a pinch, so at the worst you're put in a perfect defensive position even if you don't get a kill.

There's a difference between getting killed after using a powerfull special, or getting killed because you happen to run into someone with a kraken fully charged who'll instantly transform and kill you in the blink of an eye.  The first is bad planning, as  you could have withdrawn to safety before the kraken runs out, the second is just plain annoying.

How is it fair that after a Krakken you cannot attack for a second or so whilst the person you're chasing can attack all the time before, during and after the krakken? It's flipped it around completely, making you a sitting duck after it's used. How is it any less cheap then a random killer wail from half the map away that kills you in the blink of an eye? You can avoid a Krakken by swimming away and you can even shoot at it constantly which pushes it away. You can splash wall it away or use the EDIT: bubble shield, or even walk on grating that the krakken will fall through.

Man, I'm about done with the Maiden of Blackwater demo and I'm not overly impressed. Definitely has a creepy enough vibe, but these controls....uggghhhhh. They are straight out of the PS2 era. Very clunky. I get that making things a touch slower helps with the survival horror feel,  but this is rough as hell.

I've been thinking about this whole 'all in one' idea, and the only way I can see this not weakening Nintendo is if this will work akin to those tablets you can tether half a laptop to.  It's a bad analogy, but this situation would allow Nintendo's handheld line to remain independent, while leveraging their strength in this market to sell more home consoles.  I'll try to explain it better than that:

The handheld would function as a controller to the NX console and would come bundled with it, but could also be bought seperately.  This way parents could either buy a €200-€250 handheld, or pay €400 for both a handheld AND a home console.  Having the equivalent of a WiiU gamepad that has some actual computational power of its own would mean that the NX itself would need less raw horsepower.  Both consoles could work in tandem, lord knows Nintendo is already pointing a huge Wifi beam to our crotch while we're using our Gamepad.  It could work similarly to online gaming, where the handheld would take care of all the workload for it's own screen, with a lag-free connection between both consoles.  This would also mean that Nintendo can stay the course with where it's going in terms of innovation: a controller with as many bells and whistles as you can come up with.  They're practically already there with their integration of the 3DS as a controller in Smash for WiiU.

I don't buy the whole idea of having the same games on both platforms, with graphics improving if you've got both tethered together.  It's too limiting and will only result in less hardware and software sold.  The way I described Nintendo would keep 2 seperate software libraries, whilst using their stronger brand to leverage their weaker performing brand.  It's the only scenario I can imagine that won't leave Nintendo in a weaker position in the long run.

That sucks. I was hoping this one would be more streamlined.

Yeah I finished up the demo, and the extra 30 minutes only confirmed what I thought earlier. The game is creepy as hell, and the story is compelling. The controls are a damned tragedy though. You move too slowly, and god forbid you try to turn your character around without an extra 20 minutes. During ghost attacks that makes things far more difficult than it needs to be. Despite all the gripes, Nintendo might not have been wrong in making this game a priority or even giving it a physical release.

Still it's not so terrible that the good things don't outweigh the bad. I'm not going to buy it for the full $50 price tag, but in the event it drops to under $25 I'll give it a shot. In the meantime though, Costume Quest 2 is on sale for $5, so I think that's going to be my game for Halloween.

Vivendi increases Ubisoft stake, wants position on board

You know, I really have no idea who I'm rooting for in this scenario. I dislike both companies so very much. Can't wait to see where this goes.

Some nice games Robio.  Competition was stiff though, I don't think I came in top spot on my team once to be honnest.  Favorite moment has to be when we'd kill eachother, you with your sniper, me just being able to deploy my killer wail before you could splat me.  Nyaa

Tempting...  I'm going to wait untill I get a Steam Link though.  I'm sure it'll get discounted again later on.  And even then, if the Link does deliver flawless performance, I'll have about 40 unplayed steam games to delve into from the comfort of my couch.  Granted, only 16 I'd consider playing, but that's still 2 years worth of games for me.  Oh, and I'ma gonna make Robio proud, I seem to own a copy of Lone Survivor.  Nyaa

There were some wildly talented players today. I was only half paying attention as I played since my kid announced he just threw up only a few minutes after you asked me to play. But wow I felt very outclassed. I had a handful of ok matches, but I felt like I was just getting lucky when I did.
